O n behalf of the JMU Parents Council, we invite all JMU parents and family members to join in the fun and excitement of the annual Family Weekend on September 30-October 2. We
certainly look forward to spending this special weekend with our son Kyle (‘17).
Thousands of families travel to Harrisonburg and take advantage of this opportunity to get a taste of JMU campus life, visit with their students and further enhance their JMU family experience. Be sure to register early as many Family Weekend ticketed events are limited and sell out quickly!

Family Weekend Canoe8 a.m. until noon | meet at UREC atrium | includes the equipment, leaders, transportation and snacks | dress in layers in clothes that can get wet (just in case) and wear shoes with straps that can get wet (no flip-flops) | please bring a small backpack, 2 liters of water, sunblock and a hat | $20 per personPrerequisite: Swimming ability. Come out and enjoy the beauty of the valley as we canoe on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Paddle “Lake Shenandoah,” a flat-water-section in northeastern Rockingham County about 30 minutes from JMU. Basic canoeing and safety instruction will be covered. All you need to bring are your paddling clothes and shoes. We will be back before the football game kickoff.
Open Climbing2 p.m. until 6 p.m. | FreeNo registration necessary. If you want to add a challenge to your Family Weekend, then look no further. Parents, siblings and friends are welcome to join us for an afternoon of fun in UREC’s brand new Adventure Center, complete with a freestanding climbing tower and expansive bouldering wall. We will cover all you need to know for your first climb.
5K Race to benefit Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation8 a.m. | register at the Festival Conference & Student Center (start of the 5K race) | race begins at 9 a.m.Zeta Tau Alpha invites parents and students to join the battle against breast cancer by participating in a 5K run. Proceeds benefit the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation which partners with a number of organizations committed to breast cancer research. Participants are encouraged to wear pink, and the most spirited will receive an award. In addition, 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded. Registration is $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 10 and under. Fee includes a t-shirt. Registration begins at 8 a.m.. For more information, email [email protected].
Edith J. Carrier Arboretum Fall Bulb Sale 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. (also on Godwin Field from 10 a.m. until kickoff)The 2016 JMU Purple and Gold Bulb Collection and individual varieties of bulbs will be sold from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Frances Plecker Education Center which is found on the grounds of the EJC Arboretum. Plant some school spirit for a 2017 springtime show of purple and gold beauty with the 2016 JMU Bulb Collection. Please park along University Boulevard only in designated gravel pull-off space on the arboretum side of University Blvd, not on the Driver Drive side which would obstruct a pedestrian sidewalk and bike lane. The 2016 JMU Bulb Collection is also available at Godwin Field Festival pregame. All proceeds support the educational mission of the EJC Arboretum.

This moderate 2 mile round-trip trail hike includes some uphill hiking. Your efforts will be rewarded with a 360-degree view of the Allegheny and Blue Ridge mountains from the top of a fire tower.
Family Weekend Downtown Bike Ride10 a.m. until noon | meet at UREC | includes leaders and adult sized bikes only | Helmets (provided) required | $10 per person We will meet at UREC then ride a short distance to the Harrisonburg Farmers’ Market where you can purchase great local breakfast items. After enjoying the Farmers’ Market, you are welcome to explore downtown before riding back as a group to UREC.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
CAMPUS PARKINGBeginning Friday of Family Weekend, all JMU parking lots are open to visitors with the exception of reserved football lots during the times indicated below. Be sure to park in general spaces not designated for special use by signage. Parking meters are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call Parking Services at (540) 568-3300 for recommendations on parking lots close to your destination. Lot reservation for football begins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and continues until the conclusion of the football game on Saturday. Any vehicles left in reserved lots after 9:00 p.m. on Friday may be cited and towed.
Where can my family find lodging?Area hotels and motels fill up quickly, so make your reservations early! Visit the accommodations Web site at www.jmu.edu/parents/travel/accommodations.shtml for a comprehensive list of hotels/motels in Harrisonburg and surrounding areas.
When should I plan to arrive and depart? Parents arrive as their work obligations and other commitments permit. The more popular events (faculty lectures, student conference, shows and football game) are generally scheduled for midafternoon on Friday into Saturday evening.
Do we need to register somewhere when we arrive on campus? There is no need to formally register upon arrival. Please review individual event descriptions for registration information.
Where may I park? Please see below for parking instructions and pages 10-11 of this brochure for a campus map.
What is the refund policy? No refunds or exchanges. For questions regarding your order, please contact the JMU Athletic Ticket Office at (540) 568-3853 or [email protected].
Are family members/guests invited?Family members and/or guests are welcome at events.
What is the dress code for Family Weekend?We see many styles of dress ranging from casual to business attire. We recommend that you dress comfortably and in layers as temperatures throughout each day may vary. (Please note that the Fantastic Feast is casual attire.)
My mailing address information is incorrect. How is this information updated?JMU students are responsible for maintaining accurate home mailing addresses. For inaccurate addresses, please ask your student to update his or her home address in MyMadison.
Where can I purchase JMU clothing and other logo items?The JMU Bookstore (see enclosed map for location) and at Saturday’s Godwin Field Festival (Godwin Field).
Is tailgating allowed and if so, where?Yes, on football game day, you may tailgate in any of the general parking lots on campus. General parking is free and available on a first come basis. Tailgating in general lots is permitted four hours prior game time. Reserved parking is available for Duke Club Members, call (540) 568-3853 for more information.

Shuttle Buses Shuttle buses will operate continuously both on and off campus, beginning three hours prior to the football game until two hours after the game ends.
On campus, JMU buses will circulate from the parking lots at Convo, Festival (C11/C12 Lots), D2 Lot and the Godwin Transit Center (GTC) by the stadium. Buses will also circulate between the Warsaw parking deck and the GTC.
Off campus, Harrisonburg Transit buses will operate between virtually all of the City hotels, and the off-campus apartments to the GTC. These schedules are available at www.hdpt.com. Shuttle bus services will also be provided for handicapped visitors. These buses will operate from the handicapped parking lot (R8 Lot) near
the MLK Parkway to the Gate A and Gates C/D at the stadium. In addition, paratransit buses will be available on demand at any time throughout the campus and the City by calling HDPT at 540-432-0492
Game Day Parking Visit JMUSports.com/gameday for more information on general football parking lots. On game day, all lots not reserved for Duke Club members with season passes are general parking lots and may be used at no charge. For more information about joining the Duke Club, visit JMUDukeClub.com.
RV Parking RV parking is available for a fee of $25 per vehicle. RV parking is located in R10 Lot and must be purchased in advance at JMUTickets.com.
