A LESSON ON CHAKRAS Instructor: Patsy DresslerWhat is a chakra you ask? Originating from the Sanskrit, it literally means 'wheel' associated with its function as a vortex of energy interacting with physiological and neurological systems in the body, connecting from the base of your spine to the crown of your head. Multiple chakra systems are found in numerous cultures and traditions around the world, and scientists in Seoul recently confirmed the existence of meridians in the body along which our energy flows. This class will be associated with energy flow: if they become blocked or out of balance, a host of issues can result including illness. We'll discuss what organs are associated with each chakra, how the body is affected by a chakra out of balance, ways to check your own chakras, and various methods to bring balance and harmony for greater health, energy and emotional well-being. DEVELOPING MINDFULNESS Instructor: Patrick PowersThis class will focus on the practices and teachings that enhance a mindful lifestyle. Learning to live mindfully is proven to lessen stress, lessen the release of cortisol (stress hormone) and to help heal co-dependency. Mindful living has been shown to contribute to spiritual experiences though, in itself, it is not a spirituality. Mindful breathing practices create different neural pathways in which to experience our story real-time instead of mentally rehashing our trauma-drama narratives over and over, keeping the story merely in our heads. Mindfulness allows whole body processing in contrast to just mental processing. All are welcome, no experience necessary. $35 for 2 sessions.103107-F17A Wednesdays, 10/4 - 10/11, 6:30 - 8:00 PM YFS Counseling Center - 202 E Adams

Whether it’s a small ranching community, various immigrant populations, Native Americans, West/East River or ‘city folk’, we all have our own values, traditions and practices that are ‘normal’ for us. When groups/cultures mix together, misunderstandings and perspectives can clash as we don’t ‘speak the same language’, ‘walk the same path’ or look at the world in the same way. It can be the same for work groups like law enforcement, social services, courts, small businesses and government entities. What participants experience in this workshop will launch discussions relating to the human experience and bring clarity to all participants. MAKE IT BOLD: POUR & PAINT WITH ACRYLIC!Instructor: Carol BrookensCome add flowing color to your life while experiencing the addictive pour and paint with acrylics! Pouring, puddling, dripping... the techniques of this acrylic style are that you don't apply the paint with a brush or palette knife, instead gravity is a main tool to move and form vibrant, swirling colors across the canvas. The results are unlike anything you do with a brush: beautiful fluid flows of paint without marks. It’s amazingly fun and almost therapeutic as you expand your skills and creativity by embracing another mode of painting that’s free-range. All supplies are provided and you should be able to complete more than one canvas if you wish. Students ages 18 and up most welcome. NOTE: Additional $20 supply fee paid to instructor. $25 for 1 session.802013-F17A Thursday, 10/12, 6:30 - 8:30 PM Sturgis Center for the Arts - 1238 Main, Ste 2

PROSPECTING FOR GOLD IN THEM THAR HILLS!Instructor: Jim Van HoutTake this fun course to learn all about gold prospecting in the Black Hills presented by a Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America! A field trip, weather permitting, where you will actually dig, sluice and pan will be discussed in class. Each student will take home a gold pan and a 2-lb bag of 'pay dirt' to practice gold panning on your own…does it get any better?! Note: $25 supply fee paid to instructor. $45 for 3 sessions.801001-F17A Tuesdays, 9/19 - 10/3, 6:00 - 8:00 PM Sturgis Community Center - 1401 Lazelle

WOODCARVING FOR BEGINNERS! Instructor: Mike MartinWoodcarving and whittling is an ancient form of expression…and some classify it as a 'lost art'. It's a medium that you can be very unique and creative, and with a little knowledge, can produce fun and interesting projects. This course will be hands-on and local carvers from the Hay Camp Woodcarvers club will be guest instructors teaching you about tools, different types of wood and techniques. The best wood for small carvings will be provided and carving knives will be available for student use in class. A special field trip to a woodcarvers meeting is planned. Ages 16 and older welcome. NOTE: Additional $5 supply fee paid to instructor. $40 for 4 sessions.802007-F17A Mondays, 10/9 - 10/30, 7:00 - 9:00 PM Meade County WIC Building - 1029 5th Street
