Information Technology and Financial PlanningAccounting and Computers (Introduction) This course covers basic bookkeeping and accounting principles and techniques on Quickbooks software. Learn the language and problems of business and the bookkeeping cycle in its simplest form. Study different types of journals, ac-counts, and bookkeeping records. Adobe InDesign (Introduction)This course will introduce students to Adobe InDesign, Adobe’s industry standard desktop publishing application, including creating documents, using InDesign’s object manipulation and text styling tools, creating multipage documents, import-ing text and graphic files, and more. Prerequisites: Must be competent using at least one computer operating system. Access to InDesign on a computer at home or work is required. $285 Thursdays 10 Sessions 6:00pm-9:00pm CHS 9/19/13-12/12/13

Adobe Photoshop (Introduction) Learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop, the premiere image editing software. The course will introduce students to the basics of bitmap images and computer color, the basic set of Photoshop’s tools and palettes, guidelines for processing images from a digital camera, optical disk or scanner with Photoshop, making basic color corrections, basic image editing, the basics of working with layers, how to pre-pare graphics for web pages and more. Prerequisites: Must be competent using at least one computer operating system. Information Technology and Financial PlanningAdobe Illustrator (Introduction)This course will cover the basics of Adobe Illustrator, a powerful vector graph-ic drawing program. Students will learn the various tools and palettes, how to create and manipulate vector objects, hot to create and use colors, how to use gradients and patterns, adding and manipulating text, creating and using some special effects, importing and using picture graphics, and how to prepare files for basic print and web uses. Prerequisites: Must be competent using at least one computer operating system. Access to Illustrator on a computer at home or work is required.$285 Wednesdays 10 Sessions 6:00pm-9:00pm CHS 9/18/13- 11/20/13

Apple iOS DevicesLearn how to use Apple iOS devices like iPads, iPhones, and iPods, as well as the iOS operating system. Topics covered will be determined based on the collec-tive needs of the students but can include: basic usage, settings, syncing devices through iCloud, purchasing, downloading, installing and deleting apps; using apps such as Camera, Mail, Maps, Safari (and other web browsers), non-Apple apps, such as Youtube, DropBox, etc. Prerequisite: Students should own at least one iDevice and bring it to class. $130 Mondays 5 Sessions 6:00pm-9:00pm CHS 9/16/13-10/21/13

Apple MAC OS X (Introduction)Learn the basics of Apple’s OS X, the Macintosh computer operating system, including: similarities and differences from Microsoft Windows, how to organize files and folder, the basics of using Mac applications, how to connect to the inter-net and surf the world wide web, and how to send and receive email. This course is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to take a graphics course and is unfamiliar with a Mac. Prerequisite: Must feel comfortable using at least one computer operating system. Access to a Macintosh at home or work is required. Students are encouraged to bring their own Mac laptops to class. $130 Mondays 5 Sessions 6:00pm-9:00pm CHS 10/28/13-11/25/13

Apple Mac OS X: Mastering the MacLearn how to master the OS X through learning advanced subjects such as changing system and finder preferences; customizing Mac applications; finding, downloading and installing non-Apple applications; networking your Mac with other computers; using other operating systems on your Mac, and more. Topics will be determined in part by the desires of the students. Prerequisite: Must feel comfortable using some version of OS X. Access to a Macintosh at home or work is highly recommended. The main reason for this class is for the student to get comfortable with using comput-ers. It will provide instruction on the basic functions as well as selected Micro-soft products. Computer Literacy (Advanced)Students will learn advanced applications associated with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. In Microsoft Word, students will learn how to create flyers, ad-dress labels, business cards, newsletters, and brochures. Students will learn how to type professional business letters, add graphics to documents from internet websites. They will also learn how to create professional PowerPoint Presenta-tions from documents created in Word and Excel by insertion of selected text. Students will learn how to create advanced spreadsheets and insert them into Word documents. Estate PlanningThis course is taught by Harvey J. Jacob, a lawyer admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, who concentrates his practice in the areas of estate plan-ning and estate administration. Students in this course will gain an understanding of estate planning, documents necessary for good planning, taxes that should be addressed by the structure of the plan, and how to reduce or eliminate taxes. The basics of estate administration will be explored along, with specific steps to obtain the authority to administer an estate. Creating a legal Will and challenging a Will to be discussed as well. $170 Mondays 6 Sessions 6:00pm-8:00pm Neptune Annex 9/16/13-10/28/13

Math Review (Basic)Students will review basic math procedures, critical thinking skills required of to-day’s worker. Transportation TechnologyAuto Body Repair and Refinishing (Beginners)This course covers basic auto body repair, tools, equipment; sheet metal damage procedures for straightening and reshaping damaged metal and auto body fillers, glues and fiberglass repair. Auto Body Repair and Refinishing (Advanced)This course covers the basics of paint refinishing, the spray gun, spray booth, preparation of vehicle, surface preparation, protective coverings, and wet sanding and buffing. Auto Mechanics (Beginners)This course assumes little automotive knowledge. Students will gain an under-standing of suspensions, engines, computer-controlled fuel injection systems, new emission systems inspection requirements, braking, transmissions and other systems. It will emphasize diagnostic methods not requiring expensive test equip-ment. Auto TechnicianStudents interested in pursuing the automotive trade as a career will receive hands-on and classroom training for entry level employment addressing the fol-lowing: tools, precision measuring equipment, shop procedures and safety. Basic automotive systems such as engine fundamentals, power train service, brakes, tires, exhaust systems, suspension, and alignment procedures will be covered. Advanced automotive technology including engine computer controls, anti-skid braking systems, air conditioning, fuel and air management systems will be in-cluded to prepare the student for entry into a modern automotive service facility. Transportation TechnologyBasic Auto Mechanics and Preventative MaintenanceThis course includes shop and personal safety rules, care and use of hand tools, lubrication services, car safety inspection, under-car visual inspection and service, under hood visual inspection, chassis lubrication, oil and filter change, service of automotive transmission, tire maintenance and repair, wheel bearing maintenance, basic automotive electricity and engine theory. This course is de-signed for first-year apprentices and those interested in the automotive field. This is not a theory course, rather a hands-on course. The student must have his/her own project and be responsible for all materials and supplies needed.$185 Tuesdays 11 Sessions 7:00pm-10:00pm KIVA 9/17/13-11/26/13

Marine Mechanics (Beginners)This course is designed to provide instruction for marine industry entry-level me-chanics and boat owners. Students will acquire a basic understanding of the fun-damentals and operation of the two and four stroke engines. Tools and equipment used in the trades are introduced. Theory and practical experiences are combined in the operation, service, testing and repair of inboard and outboard engines. The test, repair and adjustment of the ignition, fuel cooling systems and electrical systems are included. In addition, the basic understanding and principal operation of gear systems, service and propeller selection will be covered.$360 Tuesdays and Thursdays 24 Sessions 6:30pm-9:30pm Aberdeen 9/17/13-12/19/13

Small Engine RepairInstruction will be given on small two and four stroke gas engines used on mowers, snow blowers and pumps. Basic areas of maintenance such as lubrica-tion, tune-up, filters and carburetor will be covered. Real EstatePre-license Real Estate This course meets the State Educational requirements for those wishing to quali-fy for the State Licensing Exam through Visual Educational Concepts, taught by Frank Felice, a licensed real estate agent in the State New Jersey. Students must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. The NJ Real Estate Commission will conduct a criminal background check on all candidates. Students must complete the 75-hour course and earn a score of 70% or more on the MCVSD final exam. Students have one year from date of issuance to pass the State exam and file their applications with the Real Estate Commission. Once the certificate expires, the class must be repeated and candidates must pay an addi-tional tuition fee. Tuition includes textbook, all materials, and review for State Exam. $ 375 Mondays and Wednesdays 6:00pm-9:00pm Neptune Annex 9/16/13-12/16/13

Construction and Industrial TradesBasic Oil Burner Repair ServiceThis course includes basic technology involved in the servicing and repair of res-idential oil burners, controls, electricity, tanks, and accessory equipment, princi-ples of combustion firing rates, combustion, analysis and efficiency testing. Blueprint Reading IThis course covers the fundamentals of print reading for single family dwellings. Actual prints provide print reading experience. Specific topics include: symbols and notations, structural information, elevations, floor plans, scaling and dimen-sioning, and trade information.$185 Tuesdays 12 Sessions 7:00pm-10:00pm Career Center 9/17/13-12/3/13

Blueprint Reading IIThis course continues development of the fundamentals skills learned in Blue-print Reading I. Students will have the opportunity to create a set of their own house plans. Boiler Operator Low Pressure: BLACK SEALThis course prepares qualified and experienced persons responsible for the op-eration of public and private buildings for state licensing as required by law. You must be working in the field in order to take this class. Instruction covers func-tions of low-pressure boilers and their safe operation; air pollution control and energy conservation. Books, supplies and personal safety equipment not included in tuition. $175 Tuesdays/Thursdays 10 Sessions 7:00pm-10:00pm Neptune 9/17/13-10/17/13

Woodworking Fundamentals This course covers general wood-shop safety and the proper use of hand and pow-er tools. ApprenticeshipApprenticeship is a program coordinated between labor, industry, and education to prepare individuals for a specific trade/craft or occupation. Apprenticeship is a proven method of training skilled workers through formalized on-the-job training and related instruction programs (theory). In the United States, there are approx-imately 950 occupations which are acquired through apprenticeship. Apprentices are registered by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (BAT), United States Department of Labor and the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Basic Standards of an Apprenticeship Program:

• Proper supervision of training and adequate training facilities• An approved ratio of apprentices to skilled workers• A progressive wage schedule• A schedule of work processes• Provision for related instruction• Non-discrimination in all phases of employment and training

Apprenticeship students must maintain 2000 hours of on-the-job training per year and attend 144 hours of related instruction per year. Arrangements for related instruction may be made by sending your registration to the main office. Appli-cants must be employed as an apprentice in an approved training program. Proof of apprenticeship must be presented. If you wish to take these classes while you are not working in the field, you may do so. However, you will not get hands on training, nor a USDOL apprenticeship certificate.

Health ScienceCertified Nurse Aid (CNA)Become a Certified Nurse Aide in a Long Term Care Facility (CNA). Develop the skills necessary to care competently for the predominately geriatric client. Upon successful completion of the 90-hour course (50 hours classroom and 40 hours clinical), you will be eligible to take the New Jersey State Nurse Aide in Long Term Care Facility Exam. Health ScienceDental RadiographyThis program will provide the dental assistant with the information and training necessary to produce quality dental radiographs. Successful completion of this 70- hour program is necessary to qualify for licensure as a NJ licensed dental radiology technologist. Graduates must pass the DANB’s Radiation Health and Safety examination to qualify for licensure. The program includes 45-hours of classroom and laboratory instruction, and a 30-hour clinical experience. Atten-dance is MANDATORY. Practical NursiNg Program

GENERAL INFORMATION

The MCVSD Practical Nursing Program offers academic studies and clinical experience to prepare students to meet the state requirements for licensure as a practical nurse in New Jersey. It is approved by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing and the New Jersey Department of Education and accredited by Middle States. Graduates are eligible to take the Practical Nursing Licensure

Examination in New Jersey. Classes are admitted in September. Each class is assigned to an affiliating hospital for clinical experience.

Tuition is $8,500.00 for the 2013-2014 school year payable in two payments. Financial aid available for qualified applicants. Approved by the Department of Education for veterans benefits and the Monmouth County Division of Employ-ment & Training. Refunds will be honored based on board policy.

Applicants must be 18 years of age upon entering the program, must have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and pass a qualifying test ($40 fee). After passing the qualifying test the applicant must pay a $50 non-refundable regis-tration fee. Not included in fees: a complete physical examination, a criminal background check, books, uniforms, and a CPR certification.

Students who pass this course with a minimum grade of 75 and who are absent no more than 2 sessions will not be required to take the Basic Skills PN entrance exam and can register for the September 2014 PN course, space is limited in both PrePN course and PN course. adult cosmetology

The Cosmetology and Hairstyling Program is offered to high school graduates. This course meets the 1,000-hour requirement to take the licensing examination given by the State Board of Hairstyling and Cosmetology. Books, kits, manne-quins, and uniforms are not included in the tuition. The state examination fee and license fees are also not included. A basic skills test must be taken before entering the program. The cost of the basic skills test is $20. See page 2 for test dates.

Cosmetology Completers Course (State Board Prep & Review)The Beauty Culture Completers Program is designed for previous studentsof cosmetology who need a 250-hour review course or have accumulatedin excess of 800 hrs in a cosmetology program and need additional hoursto complete their program. The focus of this course is clinical and stateboard review. Course is paid in two installments of $625 due before or onSept 11 and Jan 17. Students needing 100 hours or less can begin eitheron Sept 11 or Jan 17 for the semester cost. Prerequisite: Proof of previoushours is required. Students who complete this program and wish to further their career in cosmetol-ogy may transfer up to 150 hours to the regular cosmetology program. Course is paid in two installments of $875 due before or on Sept 13 and Jan 17. A copy of your High School Diploma or GED is required at start of the class. Books cost approx. $250. Personal ServicesMassage TherapyThe Massage Therapy Program is an in-depth, 600-hour program designed to pre-pare graduates for the National Certification Exam. Topics covered will include anatomy and physiology, therapeutic massage, myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, sports massage, hydrotherapy, stretching, pre-natal massage, reflexology, HIV/AIDS awareness, a clinical and business internship (151 hrs), and other re-lated topics. Servsafe CertificateThis course meets the requirements for all Retail Food Establishments. All establishments must have a “ (PIC) Person in Charge.” This person must have a working knowledge of foodborne disease prevention and application of the (HACCP) principles. As of January 2, 2010, at least one person in charge in Risk Type 3 Food Establishments shall be a “Certified Food Protection Manager.” The Serv-Safe Certification is intended to provide food service managers, owners, dietetic assistants, and operators an opportunity to learn the principles of sanitary food service operations, thereby promoting good health practices in serving safe and sanitary food to the consuming public under the guidelines established by the Food and Drug Administration. Servsafe certificate will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the course and pass the Serv-Safe examination. FEE: All courses are tuition courses except for Adult Basic Skills and ESL. Each course (unless otherwise noted) has the required fee listed with the course description in the catalog. REFUND POLICY: Full refunds will be made prior to the start of class. A $20 fee will be charged. Refunds made after the first class will be honored based on board policy. BOOKS, SUPPLIES & PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT: The purchase of textbooks may be required for certain classes and it is the responsibility of the student. Students are responsible for costs of parts, materials and supplies used for personal projects. (Examples: auto body paint, lumber, motor oil.) Protective safety equipment (safety glasses, goggles, shoes) must be provided by the student and must be used during shop activities to ensure the health and safety of the student. No one will be allowed to participate in hands-on instruction without the required safety items.
