F A L L 2 0 1 1 As we begin another school year, I would like to welcome first year students to Lambton College and wish you every success as you prepare for your careers. We hope that you are enjoying the water bottles that were provided on First Day to mark this occasion. To those students in their final year, good luck with your studies and we look forward to officially welcoming you as Alumni in 2012. I remember my time at Lambton College in the Electronics Engineering Technology program. I have great memories and it is for that reason that I am paying it forward through the Alumni Association today. With a new strategic plan in place, the Alumni Association continues to evolve. With a goal of providing enhanced leadership and initiatives to benefit our Alumni, we are also making a difference by supporting scholarships and bursaries for current Lambton College students. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Rob Harwood, long-time Board of Directors Community Resource Representative. Rob’s contributions have been greatly appreciated by the Association. Thanks Rob and we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours. This summer we held the 10th Annual Pay It Forward Alumni Golf Tournament and the 2nd Annual Duc D’Orleans Cruise. Both were very successful and everyone in attendance had a lot of fun. Thanks to our guests and the community for supporting these very important events. Plans are in the works for another Detroit Red Wings hockey game so stay tuned for further details. If you would like to get on the Early Bird mailing list for this bus trip or any other event, contact the Alumni Office at (519) 542-7751 X3315. Dear Alumni, Our full-time enrolment has increased yet again and we are pleased to welcome over 3,400 full-time domestic students

in September 2011. We are also enjoying a significant growth in international and part-time enrolment. Currently, we have 450 international students studying at Lambton College, over 3,500 studying abroad and approximately 6,000 individuals engaging in part-time studies. Our recruitment staff are “on the road,” across the province, promoting a variety of new programs which are being offered for the first time in September 2012. These new programs include, Therapeutic

Recreation, Hair Stylist, Digital Photography, General Arts & Science – University Preparation and Power Engineering Technician – Chemical. In addition to our fall events, we are also nearing the grand opening of our Fire and Public Safety Centre of Excellence, in December, and are gearing up for an appearance from Rick Mercer. During this past summer a group of our Fire Science Technology students worked with college staff to create a video invitation challenging Rick Mercer to the Firefighters Combat Challenge. The Combat Challenge is billed as the “toughest two minutes in sport,” and now Rick Mercer from CBC’s Rick Mercer Report, will come out to Lambton College’s fire school and compete against our own fire students. As we move forward, we will be focusing on our strategic academic directions. Lambton College emphasizes the need for research in advanced materials and alternative

energy but will also provide a new student research grant to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. The College aims toward active and engaging teaching and learning opportunities, flexible programming and seamless learning pathways. Lambton continues to enhance academic excellence and student and community success, through our new program initiatives. We invite you to visit and see the new world of possibilities we present in full-time and part-time learning, continuing education, on-line learning and more. Our College Night event will be taking place on Tuesday, October 18th and our new Fall Open House, on Saturday, November 19th. We appreciate and thank you for your support as a member of the Lambton College Alumni Association. Dr. Tony Hanlon
