SURFACE EQUIPMENT SIMULATOR TRAINING Southern uses a first-class, state of the art, 3D simulator with a full-range motion based operator’s seat, to provide training for surfacemine equipment. This simulator is equivalent to those used by the military and commercial airlines for pilot training and can be used for many equipment scenarios.

We can train new students, immerse them in real life situations without hazard exposure, cross-train existing employees on new equipment, and enhance management training through various operating conditions. The simulator enhances our time with the student. The more time the student has on the simulator, experiencing different types of scenarios, will enable the student to be more prepared for real work experiences.

UNDERGROUNDSouthern also has an underground mine simulation to provide hands-on training to prepare and enhance student knowledge of what to expect underground. This is the industry’s first of its kind. This underground simulation feels and looks just like a real mine. Utilizing various work labs will increase the miners ability to

CAREER OPPORTUNTIESWith the current workforce reaching retirement age within the next decade, an estimated 5,000 or more employees will need to be replaced. All training and education is customized to meet the needs of the clients, businesses, students, and industry. These mining jobs pay an average annual salary of $50,000 or more.

“The only acceptable number of mining accidents is zero.” - WVCA

Based on non-duplicated head count in Banner. To maintain consistency with previous years, some duplicated headcount for Satellite Site/Learning Center was included in the unduplicated headcount. All Satellite Site Learning Center classes and participants were in Banner system for the first time, so a percentage of 33% was added to their numbers to maintain consistency from previous years.
