I am researching on how France and Italy’s geography and culture are alike, and how they are different.

France and Italy have some of the same types of culture and geography, but they have some different too. They celebrate some of the same holidays, such as Valentine’s Day, but have different ones too. They have different meals, and play different sports. France and Italy both enjoy opera, but they enjoy different types of music, too. They have about the same population, but have different climates.

LANGUAGES

One holiday celebrated in both Italy and France is Valentine’s Day. This is celebrated pretty much the same way we celebrate our Valentine’s Day. People show love toward each other and give each other gifts.

A holiday the French celebrate is Bastille Day. The French celebrate this because on July 14, 1789, the French Revolution started. This is sort of like our Independence Day with fireworks and parades.

The Italian’s version of Independence Day is on June 2nd .

HOLIDAYS

Some types of food the French commonly eat are, baguette (the long, thin loaf of bread), fruits, vegetables, herbs, grain, and meat. They have this food nearly year round.

Some types of food the Italian commonly eat are, pizzas (a common meal for lunch), and vegetables, pasta, and fish are commonly eaten at dinner.

FOOD

The French and the Italians like to play many sports. Some sports both of the countries enjoy are Petanque(in French) or Bocce(in Italian) This is a game

that is played with two teams, and both teams try to roll their ball closest to the jack in the middle. At the same time, they try to knock their opponents ball away from the middle. They also both enjoy cycling.

In France, some of the popular sports are rugby and soccer.

In Italy, some of the popular sports are football, basketball, and motor racing.

SPORTS

The Italians and the French each enjoy music. One type of music that they both enjoy are operas.

One that the Italians enjoy is classical. One that the French enjoy is rap.

MUSIC

France can have either hot or cold temperatures. It is cold and rainy in the mountains, but it is warm along the Mediterranean Coast. Their capital is Paris, and their(France, not Paris) population is 57.5 million. They are 212,935 square miles. They are the second largest country in Europe, and have the fifth largest population in the continent.

Italy’s population is 58 million, and their capital is Rome. They are 116,000 square miles. The climate of the North can go below freezing during the winter, but in the South, the climate has a warmer and more moderate temperature. A lot of Italy is covered by mountains.
