DENKTAŞ KONULU EKSLİBRİS YARIŞMASI HAKKINDAABOUT EXLIBRIS COMPETITION THAT THEMED DENKTAŞ

Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi olarak, vücut bulduğumuz ilk günden itibaren, her aşamada; ülke dâvâsı, eğitim seferberliği, üniversite oluşumu ve yetkinliğe ulaşma çabasında gayret gösterirken, Rauf Raif Denktaş’ı hep önderlikte ve değerlendirmeleriyle geleceği aydınlatır-ken gördük.

Denktaş’ın gerçek mirası olan ‘Arşiv ’inin, şüphesiz dev-let yönetiminin öngöreceği aşamalar içerisinde, bütün kapsamı ile değerlendirilmesi görevini üstlenmek üze-re gerçekleştirdiğimiz hazırlıklar sonrasında ‘Denktaş Arşivi’yle görevli yüksek düzeyli öğretim üyelerinin teşkilâtlandırıldığı Rauf Raif Denktaş Bilimsel Etüdler Seksiyonu, Dökümantasyon ve Arşiv Seksiyonu ve Ulus-lararası İlişkiler Seksiyonu’ndan oluşan arşiv faaliyeti için hazırlık faaliyetlerimizi kamuoyuna yansıtmıştık.

Bu büyük proje öncesinde rahmetli Cumhurbaşkanımı-zı her vesîle ile anma görevini üstlenmekteyiz.

Denktaş’ın bütün vasıfları yanısıra, edebî kimliği de her açıdan tarihsel ve yazınsal dünyamıza mâl olmuştur.

Bu görüşle, Üniversitemizin Güzel San’atlar ve Ta-sarım Fakültesi’nin ‘Rauf Denktaş’ konulu Ekslib-ris Yarışması’nın çok anlamlı bir kapsamı bulunduğu takdîr edilecektir düşüncesindeyim.

Kitab’ın, kendisinden ayrılmaz bir parçası hâline gel-miş Ekslibris tasarım ve uygulamalarının, tarihî, kül-türel ve san’atsal bir ‘tazeleniş’ olacağına inandığımı halkımız ve tasarımları gerçekleştirecek sanatçılarla, saygı ve içtenliklerimle paylaşmak isterim.

Since the very first day of coming into existence as the Near East University, and throughout each stage of time, the Near East University has been con-cerned with “the issue” of the country, had a leading role in the educational campaigns concurrent with the formation and developments of the university and, along with these, various efforts have been made to reach perfection by making solid and continuous advances in order to develop the potentials of the university. In this continuum, we have regarded Rauf Raif Denktaş as a leader who was always up front and as a national figure that has enlight-ened our future with his precious ideas in every phase of recent history or our country.

We have taken over the responsibility for appreciating the archive of Denktaş in the most substantive and sensible way in accordance with the expectations of the state, and started to make necessary official and academic prepara-tions in this regard. These preparations have been carried out to appraise Denktaş’s “Archive” in the most proper way as it is considered to be his real heritage. We revealed to public that the highly qualified academic staff in charge of the establishment of Rauf Raif Denktaş Scientific Studies De-partment have already made the preparation studies for establishing the Archive, which involved the departments of documentation, archive and de-partment of international relations.

Prior to completion of this great project, we are taking over the responsibility to commemorate our deceased President of the Republic on every occa-sion. Besides all of Denktaş’s talents and qualifications, his artistic character had also made significant contributions to our historical and literary world in every respect. In this regard, I believe that the Exlibris Competition that themed Denktaş and held by the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of our University, will be deferentially perceived and much regarded in terms of meaning of its theme and content.

Expressing my deepest respect and gratefulness to our people and to those who contributed to this significant competition in advance, I wish to share my belief with my people and artists who will bring out the designs. In this respect, I have every confidence to believe that the designs and practices of Exlibris, which are an indivisible part of the Book, will be considered as a solid “refreshment” in terms of history, culture and art.

Kıbrıs’ın küçücük bir köyünde hayata gözlerini açan, haya-tı boyunca verdiği özgürlük mücadelesi ile Türklük tarihine adını yazdırmış, kendi kurduğu Devletinde hayata gözlerini yummuş büyük bir lider...

BABAM...

Başbaşa kalıp kucaklaşamadığım, ülke meselelerinin hep ön planda olması nedeniyle baba-oğul gibi dertleşemediğim, gözlerinin içinin güldüğünü görerek sevindiğim, varlığını his-sederek güç aldığım, mücadelesiyle, söylemleriyle sevecenli-ğiyle bana ilham veren büyük bir insan... Rauf Raif Denktaş...

Yokluğunu kabullenemediğim, özlemiyle onu her geçen gün daha sıkı kucakladığım, tecrübeli bir görüşe ihtiyaç duydu-ğumda, el yazısı ile yazdığı hatıralarından kitaplarından o yaşıyormuşcasına destek aldığım Babam, Liderim, Dert orta-ğım, Başkanım Rauf Denktaş...

O’nu son yolculuğuna uğurlarken, tüm halkımızın saygısını yansıtan o muhteşem avaz avaz sessizlik, Türkiye Devletinin ve Türk Devletlerinin temsilcilerinin gösterdiği saygı ve içtenlik sadece biz çocuklarına değil ama tüm Kıbrıslı Türk’lere bırak-tığı ve sıkı sıkıya sarılmamız gereken büyük bir onur.

Bugün O’nu, aramızdan ayrılışından sonra Uluslararası ka-tılımcıların da bulunduğu bir ortamda ilk kez anıyoruz. Ken-di halkının haklarını korumak için tüm dünyanın baskılarına rağmen başını dik tutmayı başaran bu yüce insanın anısına bu kez dünyanın birçok ülkesinden katılımcılarında bulundu-ğu bir ortamı yaşıyoruz. Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi’nin düzen-lemiş olduğu Uluslararası Exlibris yarışması, hayatının tüm zorluklarını kitap yazarak, şiir yazarak, okuyarak ve fotoğraf çekerek atlatmış, sanatı zorluklardan ve sıkıntılardan arınma metodu olarak kullanmış bir dehayı anmak adına da güzel bir girişim oldu.

O hayatta iken başlayan bu projenin sonuçlarını göremedi ama, O’nu bu şeklide anmakta olmamızdan dolayı mutlu ol-duğundan eminim.

Bu yarışmanın düzenlenmesinde emeği geçen herkese ve tüm katılımcılara ailem adına teşekkür ederim.

Rauf Raif Denktaş....

Born in a small, nice village of Cyprus, had his name written in the glorious pages of history of Turkish nation for his struggles of freedom dedicated to his nation and to his land, and as a great leader, passed away in a country that was established by himself...

MY FATHER...

Rauf Raif Denktaş... A great figure, and a father so near and yet so far, whom I never had a chance to be alone with and to have his warm hug, never had a chance to have a heart-to-heart chat as the state is-sues were always at the forefront of our relations, though, I was much delighted to see the joy in his soulful eyes, I built endurance and was much encouraged from his solid existence, I gained deep inspirations from his perspicacious sayings, his pertinacious struggles, and from his compassinate soul.

Unable to resign myself to his absence, embosom his verities more pas-sionately every passing day, and, whenever I fall in need of opinion of someone’s solid experiences, I get support from his books, from his memoirs written in his own handwriting, just by feeling as if he is still alive...My father, my leader, my confidant, and above all, my President, Rauf Denktaş...

On the day of his final journey to eternity, on the day we bid farewell to him, that great silence felt and roared throughout the country with a voice much clamourous than even the strongest uproar and that great respect and sincerity shown by the representatives of Turkic states, is above all, the greatest honour he left not only to his very children but also to all Turkish Cypriots as an indisputable legacy.

Today, after his pass, we are first time gathering up to commemorate him in an event where international participants are also present. We are now sharing the same ambiance with many participants coming from various countries all around the world in memory of that great figure who, despite the pressure of the whole world, managed to hold his head high with a solid fortitude on behalf of his nation, just only for protecting the rights of his people. The International Exlibris Competi-tion organized in his name was a nice endeavor to commemorate a true genious who used to overcome and challange the hardships of life by writing and reading poems and books, taking photographs, and using the art as a means of purification against all those hardships he encountered during his lifetime.

Unfortunately he was unable to see the results of this project which start-ed during his lifetime, however, I am pretty sure that that he is blessed and blissful as we are commemorating him by this event.

On behalf of my family, I wish to express my deepest gratitudes to all those who devoted themselves to organize and contribute to this com-petition.

Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nin önde gelen yükseköğre-tim kurumlarından olan Üniversitemiz, her zaman akade-mik çalışmaları yanında güzel sanatlara da önem veren bir Üniversitedir. Bunun en belirgin örneği, ülkemizde ilk Sahne Sanatları Fakültesi ile Güzel Sanatlar ve Tasarım Fakültesi’ni açmış olmasıdır. Ayrıca Üniversitemizde düzenlenen sanatsal etkinliklerin yoğunluğu da dikkat çekicidir.

Bilindiği gibi sanatsal etkinlikler ve özellikle yarışmalar her zaman sanatı ve sanatçıyı destekler, onu özendirir ve yeni sa-natsal ürünlerin ortaya çıkmasını sağlar. İşte biz bu düşünce ışığı altında, Güzel Sanatlar ve Tasarım Fakültemizin orga-nizasyonuyla, bu yıl Rauf R. Denktaş konulu Uluslararası Ex-libris Yarışması düzenlemekten büyük bir onur duymaktayız.

Merhum Kurucu Cumhurbaşkanımız yaşadığı süre içerisinde kendisini Kıbrıs Türk Halkı’nın özgürlük mücadelesine adamış bir liderdi. Ayrıca sanata ve sanatçıya karşı çok duyarlıydı. Fotoğraf makinesini hiç elinden düşürmez, gittiği her yerde fotoğraf sanatında önemli bir yer tutan ilginç kareleri yaka-lamakta ustaydı.

Bu yarışma ile, hem Merhum Cumhurbaşkanımız Rauf. R. Denktaş’ın anısını yaşatmak, hem de sanat dünyamıza yeni ürünler katmak bizleri çok mutlu edecektir. Tüm katılımcılara ve bu yarışmayı organize eden Güzel Sanatlar ve Tasarım Fa-kültesi öğretim elemanlarına değerli çalışmalarından dolayı teşekkür eder, saygılar sunarım.

Our university, which is the leading higher education institu-tion of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, always appreciate, value and support the fine arts along with the academic studies. The most explicit evidence of this is that the Near East University opened the first Faculty of Fine Arts and Design and Faculty of Performing Arts of our country. Also, the huge number of events organized by our university concerning art is well worth the at-tention.

As is known well, artistic facilities and especially competitions always provide support for art and artists, encourage and stimu-late them so that new works of art are originated. Under the light of this idea, we are honoured to organize the International Exlibris Competition that themed Rauf R. Dentash in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design.

Our deceased Founding President was a figure who dedicated himself to freedom struggle of Turkish Cypriots. Besides, he was a person who were very considerate and responsive towards art and artists. He used to have his camera with him wherever he went and he was a fine photographer who were able to take shots that were held in high regards in terms of photographic art.

We would be much delighted to commemorate our deceased Founding President Rauf R. Dentash with the occasion of this competition and add more works of art to our world of art. In this regard, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those meritious participants and to academic members of Faculty of Arts and Design for their invaluable efforts and contributions.

SAYIN DENKTAŞ İÇİN KÜÇÜK BİR YARIŞMAA LITTLE CONTEST for Mr. DENKTAS


Büyük insanlar için büyük sözler söylenir genellikle, bakıp-ta görebilenin büyüklüğüne göre. Sayın Denktaş’ın yalnızca Kıbrıs için değil de aynı zamanda Türk dünyası içinde önemli ve büyük bir siyasi figür olduğu açıktır. Dünyanın kabul etti-ği bu gerçeklikten başka bir gerçekliğine özellikle fotoğrafa duyduğu ilgi ve sanata verdiği destek; kuşkusuz onun hatır-lanmasında ve tarihteki yeri için önemli bir etken olacaktır. Örneğin; yüreğinin sesini dinleyip pek çok kere resmi tören ve toplantılarda bile elinden düşürmediği kamerası ile görün-tünün peşinden koştuğu tarihe not düşülmüştür.

Sayın Denktaş’ın kurucu Cumhurbaşkanı olduğu Kuzey Kıb-rıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nde eğitim yoluyla bilim ve teknolojide önemli ve öncü bir rol üstlenmiş olan Yakın Doğu Üniversi-tesinin çatısı altında Güzel Sanatlar ve Tasarım Fakültesini kurarak biz de yakın tarihimize küçük ama önemli bir not düştük. Bu sürecimizde Sayın Denktaş’ın sempatisi ve des-teği hep yanımızda oldu. Değişik defalar, farklı gerekçelerle görüşmelerimizde siyasetin ötesinde sanat ve eğitim tartışma-larımızdan da keyif alır olduğunu gördük. Güçlü bir bellek, düzgün bir ifade biçimi ve ince bir espri anlayışı ile adada yolculuk yaparken çok şey öğrendik ondan.

Sayın Denktaş’ın tüm niteliklerinin yansıtılabileceği; fotoğraf ya da genellikle amatör heyecanla ve değişik tekniklerle uy-gulama alanı bulan exlibris tanımlı uğraşının verimli bir yarış-ma aracı olabileceğini düşündük. Yarışma denince şüphesiz ilk akla gelen onun adıyla bütünleşen fotoğraf olmakla be-raber, fotoğrafı bir sonraki döneme bırakıp özellikle uluslara-rası katılımı ve tanınırlığı yüksek tutmak adına exlibrise karar kıldık. Fikrimizi, heyecanımızı paylaştığımızda her zamanki gibi bize desteklerini esirgemeyen YDÜ yönetiminin desteği olmasaydı bu yarışmanın gerçekleşmesi mümkün değildi.

Sayın Denktaş’ın yarışmanın sürecini ilgiyle izlediğini ve me-rakını gizlemediğini biliyoruz. Bugün aramızda olsaydı sanı-rım mutlu olurdu. Çünkü biz bugün ve sonuçlara bakınca Sayın Denktaş adına YDÜ adına; bir misyonu yerine getir-menin mutluluğunu yaşıyoruz. Bu bağlamda; yarışma fikrinin oluşmasından sonuçlanmasına kadar geçen sürede emeği geçen herkese ve katılımcılara teşekkür ederim.

Sayın Denktaş’ın ruhu şad olsun.

Big words are uttered for great people generally, depending on how greatly they are regarded. It is apparent that Mr. Denktaş is not only a great and important political figure for Cyprus but for the whole Turkic world. Apart from this reality that was also regarded by the rest of the world, another reality, that he was deeply interested in photography and supported art, will surely be a significant factor for him in taking his place in history and being remembered by others. For instance, it is noted down in history that he followed the call of his emotions so many times and chased after the views with his camera at hand, even at the official ceremonies and meetings.

In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, where Mr. Denktaş became the Founding President of the state, we also put down a small sign into the history by establishing the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at the Near East University which claimed a leading and pioneering role in science and technology through educational facilities. In this process, sympathy and support of Mr. Denktaş were always with us. At our meetings that we held on various occasions, we have observed that he much enjoyed our discussions and exchanges on art and education, beyond the issues of politics. Mr. Denktaş having a strong mind, an ac-curate and strong telling ability, and a graceful sense of humor, we used to learn a lot from him during our passages throughout the island.

We thought that his hobby called exlibris, through which all sides of Mr. Denktaş could be reflected in photographic terms with all his amateur enthusiasm, would also be a proper term of compe-tition through which his photographic ambitions would come to life with the same ambition he used to have. Although his name that is identified with photography is the first to be recalled when the term of competition is uttered, we set aside photography for a latter term, and we decided focusing on exlibrise in order to enhance recognition and international participation. It would not be possible to organize this contest without the support of au-thorities of NEU who always kindly support us when we share our opinions and exitement with them.

We know that Mr. Denktaş followed up the process of contest with a great interest and revealed his curiosity. If he were with us today, I believe he would be much delighted. Because we are now having the joy of fulfilling a mission in honoring the name of Mr. Denktaş as well as honoring the name of NEU. In this regard, I am thankful to all participants and to all those who faithfully endevoured from the very beginning up to the end of this contest.

May God bless Mr. Denktaş’s soul.

OĞLUMA ÖĞÜTLERİMMY ADVICE to MY SON

Tarihsel gerçekler tarihsel bir süreçte çok boyutlu irdelemeler-le geleceğe ve bugüne ışık tutar.

Tarihi yaşayanlar ve tarih olanlar…

Bir günün, bir ayın değil, yılların derlenmesi ile gerçek tarihi yansıtırlar. Dünya tarihine mal olmuş büyük deha Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, tüm dünyada örnek olmuş ve ebediyen örnek olacak tarihini, devrimleri ile ve kurduğu Cumhuriyetle Türk tarihine armağan etmiştir.

Akdeniz’de; bu küçük ama stratejik açıdan büyük adada da DENKTAŞ dönemi, tarihi sayfalarda yerini almıştır. O Atatürk milliyetçisi; Cumhuriyet savunucusu; Atatürk’ün izinden hiç sapmadan Kıbrıs Türk tarihine imza atmıştır. Denktaş Anava-tanına ve Kıbrıs Türk halkına hizmet için hiçbir zaman kişisel çıkarlarını gözetmemiş, canını tehlikeye atmaktan korkmamış, DEVLET kuran bir DAVA adamı olarak tarihe mal olmuştur.

Onu tanımak, ona yakın olmak bir şeref ve gururdur. Onu yaptıkları ve sonuçları ile değerlendirmek lazım.

O Kıbrıs’a adanmış yaşamının acı dolu yıllarında pes etme-yen, sabırlı ve inançlı duruşuyla ve de üstün zekası ile hiz-met vermiştir. Ondan çok şey öğrendim. Denktaş Okulu’nda okudum. Onu uzun yıllar önce oğluna yazdığı OĞLUMA ÖĞÜTLERİM şiiri ile birebir yaşadım.

Aslında oğluna yazdığı şiirdeki öğütler, onun ta kendisidir. Yazdığı her mısrada kendi karakteri ve uygulaması vardır. Onu daha yakın tanımak isteyenler OĞLUMA ÖĞÜTLERİM şiirini okusunlar.

O ölmedi. O, ebedi yaşamdaki yerini, yaptıkları ile hep anı-larak yaşayacaktır.

Onu yaşatmak hepimizin görevidir.

Historical realities shed light to present day and to the future in a his-torical process through the multi dimensional discussions on realities of history.

People who write the history,

People who have the history written,

People who live the history and people who become a history...

They reflect the true history not by compiling the events of one day or one month, but of the years. Renowned through the history of world, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the great hero and genius, gifted to Turkish history a state of republic that was established with revolutions and that become a leading example in the history of world.

In Mediterranean, on an island respectively small but much important due to its strategic position, the term of “DENKTAŞ” has already taken an important part in pages of history.

Denktaş, being a loyal nationalist to Ataturk’s principles, a true sup-porter and believer of Republic, has placed his mark into the Turkish Cypriot history.

During his service, Denktaş has never placed his own personal interests beyond the interests of the Mainland Turkey and of the Turkish Cypriots, never hesitated in placing his life on the line, and thus, he became a man who has founded a state and referred as a man of lawsuit in the history .

Having the opportunity to be acquainted with him, being close to him is such a pride and honour. He has to be respected by what he has done and what the outcomes were of his commitments.

He had a life dedicated to Cyprus, he was a man who never gave up even when he encountered the most formidable situations in the years of sorrow and struggle, he was patient and faithful, and he served the people of the island with his outstanding intelligence. I have learnt a great deal from him. I studied Denktaş’s principles. I have felt his emo-tions one to one in the poem he many years ago wrote his son, “Advices To My Son”.

His advices which he had given to his son through his poem were in fact a true reflection of his being. Every verse of the poem is a reflection of his character and his spirit. I suggest everyone whishing to understand him more to read this poem, “Advices To My Son”.

He is not dead! He will always be remembered through his achieve-ments, HE has already taken his part in what we call an “eternal life”. It is our responsibility to keep him alive!

Yarışmalar sanatı ve sanatçıyı destekleme işlevi görürler. Uluslararası bir yarışma organize etmenin güçlüklerini konu-nun muhatapları gayet iyi bilirler. Bu tür düzenlemeler için ku-rumsal desteklerin gerekliliği kaçınılmazdır. Başarı ile sonuç-landırılan uluslararası bir yarışma hem katılımcıları, hem ödül kazananları, hem de kurumsal destek sağlayanları onurlan-dırır, prestij kazandırır. Her yarışma sonrasında da o yarışma-nın sonuçları hakkında değerlendirmeler yapılır. Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi’nin kurumsal himayesinde gerçekleştirilen ‘Rauf Denktaş’ konulu ‘Uluslararası Exlibris Yarışması’nın sonuçları üzerine de çok şey söylenebilecektir.

‘Kişi’ye değil ‘çalışma’ya ödül verilmesinin temel ilke edinildi-ği, değerlendirmelerin sanatçı imzası/ismi bulunmayan eser-ler üzerinde yapıldığı bu yarışmada; yarışmanın özelliğinden kaynaklanan konu-içerik-biçim ilişkisi ve genelgeçer exlibris kuralları dışındaki kıstaslar gündeme gelmemiş, uygulama tekniklerinden herhangi birisi diğerlerine göre daha ‘üstün’ olarak kabul edilmemiştir. Çünkü, sanatsal yaratıda teknik ve malzeme birer araçtır.

Dünyanın hemen her köşesinden katılımın olması, farklı ül-kelerden çok sayıda sanatçının yarışmaya ilgi göstermesi son derece memnuniyet vericidir. Bu durum yarışmanın ‘ulusla-rarası’ niteliğini güçlendiren bir manzarayı ortaya çıkarmak-tadır.

Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nin en önemli ve en büyük kurumlarından biri olan, sanatı ve sanatçıyı desteklemede örnek olan Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi’nin ve onun en seçkin birimlerinden Güzel Sanatlar ve Tasarım Fakültesi’nin böylesi bir organizasyonu gerçekleştirip yüz akıyla sonuçlandırması taktire değerdir. Tek üzüntümüz, 87. doğum gününde yarış-ma projesini kendisine açıkladığımız, gelişmeleri ilettiğimizde heyecanla karşıladığını bildiğimiz Sayın Kurucu Cumhurbaş-kanı Rauf Denktaş’ın adına yapılmış eserleri ve değerlendir-me sonuçlarını görememiş olmasıdır. Tesellimiz ise, bu de-ğerli seçkiye ilgili kurum, kuruluş ve kişilerin sahip çıkacağına olan inancımızdır.

Tüm katılımcılara değerli çalışmalardan dolayı teşekkür edi-yor, Kuzey Kıbrıs’ın kültür ve sanat yaşamına -Rauf Denktaş’ın adına yaraşır- bir armağan olması dileği ile anısı önünde say-gı ile eğiliyoruz.

Contests function a role on supporting the artist and the art. Those interested in this subject very well know how difficult and challanging is organizing an international contest. In such organizations, necessity of support and obtaining sup-port at institutional level is inevitable. An international contest organized and concluded with success honours the organiza-tors, participants and awardees and bring them prestige. As-sessment procedures are consequently carried out about the results of the contest at the end of each contest. A lot would be possibly uttered about the “International Exlibris Contest”, of which the theme subject was Rauf Denktaş and organized under cordial auspices of the Near East University.

In this contest where the basically adopted principle is award-ing the work, not the person, and assessment procedures were carried out over the works of which artists’ names were hidden, only the works meeting the criteria of subject-content-form that the contest was based on, and the general rules of exlibris, were considered, and none of the application meth-ods were regarded superior to others. Because, technique and materials are nothing more than ordinary implements used for achieving artistic creativity.

Having applications from almost every corner of world and having so many artists from different countries showing inter-est to the contest is surpassingly pleasing. This is an indication showing and highlighting the international attribution to the contest.

It is noteworthy that the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, one of the most prestigious establisments of the Near East Univer-sity that always is a leading institution in supporting art and artists as one of the most important and biggest institutions of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, has performed and concluded such an organization with utmost success. Our only grief is that His Excelleny Rauf Denktaş, the Founding President, to whom we explained the details of the contest on his 87. birthday, and in return expressed his gratitude with great satisfaction, was unable to see the results of the contest held in honoring his name. Our only solacement is that this precious collection will be adopted by relevant institutions, foundations and persons.

We express our deepest gratitude and thank all participants, and kinldy revere before his reminiscence, in the hope that this study will be worthy of Rauf Denktaş’s name as well as the cultural-artistic values of North Cyprus.

Exlibris, kitapların iç kapaklarında yer alan, kompozisyon içe-riğinde kime yapıldığına dair isim ve görselin olduğu küçük ebatlarda özgün baskı resim olarak tanımlanabilir. Dolayısıy-la bu sanat disiplini, kendi dönemini anlatması ve yansıtması nedeniyle, tarihi bir belge olma niteliği de taşır. Konusuyla, biçimiyle, tipografik, kaligrafik veya fotografik yapısıyla bu-lunduğu dönemin kültürel özelliklerini, bir duyguyu, bir fikri veya adına yapılan kişinin yaşamı hakkında bilgi verir. Do-layısıyla exlibris, o kişiyi yüceltir, değer katar ve onu yaşatır.

Ulusların tarihine bakıldığında, isimleri o ulus ile anılan ve özdeşleşen, milletini bağımsızlığa kavuşturmuş kahramanlar vardır. O kahramanlardan biri de, Türk milletinin tek lide-ri ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kurucusu olan Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’ten sonra Kıbrıs Türk Milleti için yıllarını bağımsızlık adına mücadele içerisinde geçiren büyük lider Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti Kurucusu Rauf Raif Denktaş’tır. Bu bağ-lamda, Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar ve Tasarım Fakültesi’nin düzenlediği bu exlibris yarışması, Rauf Raif Denktaş adına hem tarihi hem de sanatsal bir bellek oluştur-ma açısından önem teşkil etmektedir.

Hayatını, kurduğu bağımsız bir cumhuriyete adamış olan Rauf Raif Denktaş’ın yaptığı büyük işler, O’nu anlamak, an-latmak, yüceltmek ve daima hatırlanır kılmak amacı ile bu küçük ebatlardaki exlibris’lerde hayat bulmuştur. Sadece Kıb-rıs Türkleri için değil, dünyadaki tüm Türk milletleri için de bir efsane olan Rauf Raif Denktaş’ın emekleri, Türk halkı adına çektikleri, yaşadıkları ve kendisi, daima geleceğe ışık tutacak-tır. Son nefesine kadar Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nin ve milletinin geleceğini düşünen, Kıbrıs Türkleri’nin lideri, büyük davanın unutulmaz kahramanı Rauf Raif Denktaş, gelecek nesiller tarafından da saygı ve minnetle anılacaktır.

Exlibris could be defined as a small printed picture placed on the inner cover of books, of which in the written inscription who the book picture is dedicated is depicted. In this regard, as this type of discipline of art can is a reflection of its time, it is well consid-ered a document of history. With its topic, content, typography, calligraphy or photographic structure, it is a reflection of the cul-ture of its time, a reflection of emotion, an idea or an indication of the life of whom the book is dedicated to. Therefore, exlibris enables the person it is dedicated to be sublimated, and be re-garded with a greater value and the virtue so as to be kept alive.

Once the history of nations is reviewed, we see those whose names are recalled identical along with that nation, and those who are the heroes of their nations as they lead their nations towards their freedom. One of those heroes was the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people, the Founding President of Turkish Re-public of Northern Cyprus, who became a great leader after the founder of the Republic of Turkey; Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the one and only leader of the Turkish nation. . Rauf Denktaş dedicated his life to the Turkish Cypriots in an attempt to provide freedom and establish a state through struggles lasted several years. In this regard, an exlibris competition of which main theme centred upon Rauf Raif Denktaş held by Faculty of Fine Arts and Design of Near East University bears a great importance since it reflects Denktaş in a perspective of history and a perspective of an indi-vidual of art.

The great jobs of Rauf Raif Denktaş who has dedicated his life in founding a free republic, found life through this small dimen-sioned exlibrises with the aim of understanding him, introducing him, sublimating him and thus making him an honorable person to be remembered. Endeavors, sufferings, experiences in respect to Turkish nation and personality of Rauf Denktaş, who already become a legendary person not only for Turkish Cypriots, but for all the Turkic nations of the World, will always shed light to future. Until his last taken breath, he has always thought about the future of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and its people. As a leader of the Turkish Cypriots who conceived of his nation until his last breath, as the unforgettable hero of the great struggle, he will be a heroic figure always remembered and regarded with honour and a feeling of appreciation by the generations of future.

O’NUN GİBİ ADA(M)AKto BE a MAN of DEVOTION

Bu yazıda O’nun hakkındaki samimi duygularımı paylaşmaya çalışacağım. Çalışacağım çünkü ben yazar değil bir çizerim. Dolayısı ile yazarken yapacağım naiflikleri okuyanların hoş görecekleri ümidi ile böylesi zor bir işe kalkışıyorum.

O benim için -zaman zaman ekranlarda izlediğim- Kuzey Kıbrıs üzerinde yürütülen tüm çalışmalara karşı uyanık, karar-lı, niyet edileni çok iyi bilen, mesafeleri karşısındakine göre kendisi ayarlayan, dimdik duran bir devlet adamı idi. Ancak tanıştıktan sonra O’nun sadece bir devlet adamı olmadığını, kiminin ağabeyi, kiminin amcası, kiminin babası ve herşey-den daha önemlisi kendisini Kuzey Kıbrıs’a adamış bir insan olduğunu gördüm. O’nun anlattıklarının odağında her za-man ulusal bir duruş, bir kimlik bilinci vardı. Başta gençler olmak üzere herkese yaptığı konuşmalarında bu kimlik bi-lincini aşılamaya çalışıyor ve kim olduklarını hatırlatıyordu.Yaptığı dostça sohbetten, herhangi bir açılış töreninde yaptığı konuşmaya kadar her yerde Kuzey Kıbrıs’ı anlatmıştır. Her in-sanın tutkuyla anlattığı bir öyküsü olması gerekir. O’nunla tanıştıktan sonra anladım ki; “O’nun öyküsü Kuzey Kıb-rıs idi.”

Yazılmış, çizilmiş tüm tarihsel belgelerde başlangıcından günümüze kadar olan süreçte Kuzey Kıbrıs Sorunu’nun ne olduğu, Kuzey Kıbrıs dışındaki konuyla ilgili olanlar ya da araştırma yapanlar tarafından bilinmektedir. Daha doğrusu bilindiği sanılmaktadır. Ancak bir sorun sadece okumakla, yazmakla, konuşmakla, anlaşılamaz. Bir sorunu anlayabil-menin tek yolu onun içinde olmakla ilgilidir. Benzer bir so-runu yaşamak bile onun anlaşılmasına yetmeyecektir. İçine girdiğiniz zaman o sorunu bir şekilde hisseder ve yaşamaya başlarsınız. Kim olduğunuz, ne olduğunuz, kabul edildiğiniz ya da edilmediğiniz farketmez... Eğer oradaysanız sorunun içindesiniz demektir ve artık o sorunu anlamaya başlamışsı-nızdır. Belki bu yüzdendir Kuzey Kıbrıs Sorunu’nun çözümsüz-lüğü. “Ne aananlar, ne de banki munlar çözebile-cektir bu sorunu. O,nun gibiler çözecektir.”

Bazı kişilerin bedenlerinin ölmesi çok dokunuyor insana... Onlardan biri de Rauf R. Denktaş oldu. “O, bütün fikir, sanat, bilim insanları gibi eserleri ile ayrıca tam bağımlıksız adına kendisini adamış, devlet kur-muş bir lider olarak sonsuza dek yaşayacaktır.”

In this writing, I will try to share my sincere opinions about him. I will just try, because I am not an author but a graphic designer. Therefore, as I am committing to such a difficult work, I am in the hope that the inaptness I might have done during my work will be tolerated by the readers.

For me, as I watched him on TV from time to time, he was a canny and a decisive heroic national leader who knew very well about the policies carried out on North Cyprus, and, he was a man always aware of what was intended in the circumstances as well as having the extraordinary ability to poise out the relations with others. However, after personally meeting him, I realized that he was not only a national leader but also he was someone who were regarded as somebody’s brother, an uncle or a father of another one, and without doubt, he was a man of dedication who devoted himself to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. At the core of his speeches, there always was the essence of na-tional standing and a sense of national identity. In his speeches he addressed to public and especially to youth, he was always in an attempt to inculcate the idea and sense of national identity as well as raising an awareness of it. He kept telling on Northern Cyprus wherever he went, in his friendly talks or in his speeches delivered in opening ceremonies on many occasions. Every-body should have his own story to tell with a passion. After we have met, I understood that his story was the “North Cyprus”.

What the problem of Cyprus is known by all who are interested in it, as it is written and drawn in all historical documents from the very beginning of it up to the present day. More precisely, it is only assumed that it is known. However, a problem cannot be comprehended only by reading, writing or talking on it. There is only one way to comprehend the problem; being a part of it. Experiencing a similar problem is not even enough to perceive the basis of the problem. When you become a part of the prob-lem, you feel or live it in some way. No matter who you are, no matter what you are, and no matter being if you are regarded or not. If you are there, it means you are a part of it and you have started to raise an awareness of it. Maybe that is why the Cyprus problem is a deadlock. “Neither persons such as Annan, nor Ban Ki Moon like persons will be able to solve this problem, only those who are alike Mr. Denktaş will be able to solve it.”

The loss of physical bodies of some precious people distresses us very much. One of them was Mr. Rauf Raif Denktaş. “As the founder leader who devoted himself to total inde-pendence of the country, he, like the men producing art, idea and science, will forever live in our hearts with his thoughts.”

“LİDER”İMİZ DENKTAŞDENKTAŞ, OUR LEADER...

Rauf Raif Denktaş’ın, Kıbrıs Türk Halkı’nın var oluş mücade-lesinde halkı, toprağı ve devleti için verdiği onurlu, kararlı, büyük mücadeleyi çocuk yaşlarında ailesinden, kitaplardan, öğretmenlerinden öğrenerek büyüyen, onyedili yaşların-da “Liderimiz Denktaş” diye attığı o ilk slogandan itibaren Denktaş’ın hayatını adadığı ve bizlere de miras bıraktığı doğruluk, dürüstlük ve mücadelecilik ruhunu benimseyerek hayatına yön vermiş birisi olarak gururluyum ve fakat keder içerisindeyim.

Gururluyum çünkü; ülkemizin yakın tarihinde Kurucu Cumhurbaşkanı’mız Denktaş ve dava arkadaşları başta ol-mak üzere çok sayıda inançlı “Denktaş”larla çeşitli platform-larda çalışma, mücadele etme ve aslında mücadelenin ne olduğunu öğrenme fırsatım olduğu için.

Gururluyum çünkü; Kurucu Cumhurbaşkanı’mız Denktaş’ın kurduğu devlette, kendi vatanında kalmayı tercih ederek Ya-kın Doğu Üniversitesi Hastanesi’nde ailesiyle birlikte hayat mücadelesi verirken, Kurucu Rektörümüz Dr. Suat Günsel ve beşyüz çalışanımızla birlikte kendisine gece gündüz hizmet etme onurunu bizlere bahşettiği için.

Gururluyum çünkü; geçirdiği çok ağır rahatsızlığa rağmen, Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi Hastanesin’den şifa ile taburcu olur-ken kalabalık bir basın ordusu önüne çıkarak, bütün Dünya’ya İngilizce yaptığı ve Kuzey Kıbrıs Türk Cumhuriyeti’nin geliş-miş, tanınmış, sağlık alanında dışa bağımlı olmayan bir dev-let gibi Cumhurbaşkanını kendi ülkesinde tedavi edebildiği mesajını verdiği tarihi konuşmasına şahitlik ettiğim için.

Gururluyum çünkü; hastanemizden ikinci defa taburcu ol-masının ardından uzun bir istirahat süresi sonunda evinden ilk çıktığı gün Yakın Doğu Üniversitesi Hastanesine gelerek Kurucu Rektörümüz Dr. Suat Günsel ile doktorlarımız ve has-tane personeline teşekkür ettiğini gördüğüm ve son kez soh-bet ederken birlikte fotoğraf çektirme onurunu bana yaşattığı için.

Ve fakat kederliyim de...

Bir de teşekkürüm var; Kurucu Cumhurbaşkanımız Denktaş’a sağlığında doğum günü hediyesi olarak armağan edilmek üzere ‘Rauf Denktaş’ konulu Uluslararası Ekslibris Yarışması’nı gerçekleştiren üniversitemizin Güzel San’atlar ve Tasarım Fakültesi’nin güzide hocalarına.

Bazı liderler vardır ki sadece sağlıklı ve iktidar-da iken liderlik yapar, bazı “LİDER”ler de vardır ki, hasta yatağında bile “LİDER”liğin en büyüğü-nü yapar, hatta aramızdan ayrıldıktan sonra bile. AAA

As a person, who since his childhood times grew up through learning from his family, his teachers and books about the discipline and the honourable, pertinacious and much great struggle of Rauf Raif Denktaş that he strived in favour of his people, land and state; and yet, since the very first slogan he uttered, “Our leader is Denktash”, and adopted the spirit of honesty, faithfulness, and fortitude that he gifted to his people, and shaped his life in accordance with these virtues, I am proud, though, in deepest grief.

I am proud because; I have had the opportunity in the recent history of our country to be in the line of struggle in favour of the same ideals with our Founding President Denktaş and his followers, and with many more faithful “Denktashes” on many occasions, and what is more, had the opportunity to learn what struggle means, too.

I am proud because; our Founding President Denktaş pre-ferred to stay in the state he founded, in the land of himself, at the Hospital of Near East University of his own country, and so granted our Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel and 500 staff with the honour of serving him day and night during his fight for his life.

I am proud because; despite the heavy health problems he suffered he was able to recover and discharged from the Hospital of Near East University, and on the day of his re-lease, I witnessed his historical message that he delivered in English to the world that Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus now can give treatment to its own President as a developed, well-recognized state that is no more dependant to other countries advanced in medical terms.

I am proud because; after he was second time discharged from our hospital, I witnessed that on the very first day he went out of his house following a long resting period at home, he first came to Hospital of Near East University and expressed his deepest gratitudes to our Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel and to our doctors and staff of the Hospital, and granted me with the honour of having a photo taken with him while we were having a chat the last time.

And I am in deep grief, as well.

I also owe a debt of gratitude; it is for those distinguished academicians of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design who or-ganized the International Exlibris Competition themed Rauf Denktaş in order to gift it as a birthday present to our Found-ing President in his lifetime.

There are some leaders who only are “leaders” while they are healthy and in power, there are some “LEADERS” who “TAKE THE ULTIMATE LEAD-ERSHIP” even when they are on the verge of death in sickbed, moreover, even after they pass away. AAA
