ExercEYES quick facts Keep your eyes in tip top shape! By promoting a healthy weight, exercise helps decrease the risk of developing conditions that can lead to vision impairment (i.e. diabetes, glaucoma). However, exercise is not only for the body. Try the following exercEYESes to help alleviate eye strain, especially during prolonged screen time. Blink 10 times by slowly lowering and raising eyelids. Repeat every 30 minutes to avoid dryness and irritation. Alternate looking at a far-away object and a close-up object for 10-15 seconds. Repeat 10 times to help your focusing ability. Follow the 20-20-20 Rule. Focus on an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Repeat every 20 minutes to help reduce eye fatigue. We know that too little sleep can contribute to weight gain, impaired immune function

and depression. But did you know that poor sleep hygiene can also compromise

eye health by causing dark circles, eye twitching, and dry red eyes? During deep

stages of sleep, the eyes are cleaned, rejuvenated and tear ducts replenished,

so aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night with help from the following bedtime tips.

• Take slow, deep breaths and visualize images of relaxation and happiness,

soothing your mind and reducing stress and anxiety

• Avoid screen time in bed, including cellphone, e-reader, TV, and laptop

activities

• Remove all electronics from the bedroom and turn your clock away

• Install blackout blinds or wear an eye mask as even a small amount of light
