The PositionThe executive vice president of administration/chief financial officer promotes the financial well-being of the university by providing strategic, tactical and financial leadership, ensuring sufficient resources to support the mission and safeguarding all financial assets of the university.

Additional responsibilities include managing various departments including human resources, establishing and implementing policy that honors the wishes and requirements of restricted revenue, and educating the staff, faculty and board of trustees about fiscal policies, practices and outcomes. Reporting to the president, the vice president is the primary liaison to the finance and investment committees of the board of trustees.

Position Responsibilities• Provides leadership and oversight for the functions of financial services, business office services, human

resources, endowment management, grant resources, and procurement.

• Oversees budget preparation for consideration of the president and board.

• Provides oversight for implementation and monitoring of budget.

• Collaborates with campus constituents to ensure budget compliance and develops creative solutions to maximize resources.

• Develops and implements fiscal policy to achieve current and future educational and strategic objectives.

• Assists the president and board of trustees in strategic planning, financial analysis, and other special projects as they arise.

• Provides leadership and oversight to the legal and fiduciary integrity of university operations, including the effective utilization of the external audit processes and safeguarding of real and intangible assets.

Essential qualities• Master’s degree in business administration or related field and ten years related experience; or an equivalent

combination of education and experience. CPA license and higher education or non-profit experience is preferred.

• Effective written, verbal and presentation skills and the ability to provide complex information to a diverse group of constituents, including board of trustees, university leadership, faculty, staff, and public groups.

• Ability to apply financial concepts to prepare and implement stewardship and investment strategies.

• Ability to project a strong, positive image of the university through interaction with all constituencies, including the media.

• Demonstrates success in developing and managing a diverse staff.

• Preference will be given to those with debt acquisition, real estate development and/or joint venture experience.
