Evaluation Task 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it

to full product?

Camera Effects

Effects is something that I never thought about using for

the preliminary task, as the course of the film wouldn’t

allow us to use any special effects. We therefore

decided to use effects this time in order to improve our

piece. The shot from ‘Killing Mr Wilkinson’ shows the

zooming out of the clip on YouTube, so we got the

sense that someone was watching.

Sound

For the preliminary task, we used only diegetic sound to

compliment our piece, as the use of dialogue meant that

it was not required. For my final piece however, our

choice to do an advert for a school meant that it would be

necessary to use background music to accompany the

film, helping the audience to establish that nice tone

created by from the film.

Credits

The credits we used in our piece were very simple, as we did not want to give away much from the genre. The title at the end however reveals this, along with the use of non-diegetic sound. The idea to put the name of the film on a computer screen was a way of promoting that the power is with the killer at the end of the sequence, who is typing the title.

Editing

The use of editing in our preliminary task was faulty. There was a continuity error when using the bag on the table. The use of match on action shown above was our only decent form of editing. In ‘Killing Mr Wilkinson’ we used more of a montage editing effect for our advert. Then as the film went to the murderer at the end, we changed to a continuity edit, with a series of close ups to create the sense of mystery and to show a variety of shots.
