Types of media I have used

There are many types of technologies that we have developed an understanding about during the length of this coursework, such as camera and computer work. When we began the project, we had little understanding of how to use the computer software final cut pro, yet at the end of this production we believe we have a growing knowledge of how to use the programme and can hopefully continue to develop my skills

One key aspect that we first had trouble with was playing clips that we had recently exported and dragged into the timeline. we saw a red line appear at the top of the timeline and after asking our teachers and researching it online we knew the route of the problem. the research showed what was wrong and discovered that clips needed to be rendered in order to play them. This is just an example of one of the problems we faced and overcame when producing this film.

we also developed a deeper understanding of how to use the camera effectively in order to film engaging footage. One way in which we developed knowledge was by learning the rule of thirds when filming. Using this rule makes the footage you have shot much easier for the viewer to understand as some key areas of the screen are it better view that others. This way objects can be highlighted in order to influence upon what the viewer is supposed to be concentrating on. For example, in one shot, we decided to have the image of a knife dripping with blood in a kitchen near the end. We placed the knife in the middle of the camera so it is highlighted and contrasts with the dull dark background. This gives the viewer an image to concentrate on and helps show the importance of the knife and the blood.

Another piece of technology we learnt about during the extent of this coursework was garage band. This piece of software was used to produce our soundtrack and sound effects for the film. During the course of using garage band, we learnt how to mix different tracks together and sync the music so it links well with the piece of film. For example the music in our film matches the editing tone and effects of the movie which creates a good overall effect for the audience. Our final piece of soundboard was produced to a good quality and I believe the way it matches the tone of the film being a dark depressing sequence of events was done well.

We used youtube a lot for our research into influences for our music and film. Also we used it a lot for finding clips to back our points up that we made on our blog. Another reason for using youtube was to find clips to analyse on our blog and use them for trailers when talking about sub genres, actors and directors.

Art of the title was solely used for analysing title sequences and getting an idea of where to put our credits for our film. However we did end up using some for our influences for our opening sequence. We posted screen shots of analysing the title sequences and listed the timings for the credits in our blog

We used our blogs to post all our coursework up online. The blog had many different functions that provide usefulness to us. The blog could import videos from youtube and the desktop. Also pictures could be imported into the blog which was useful to us for finding pictures of films, actors and directors, also pictures for our art of the title analysis. Those were all the things we learned how to do on the blog as everything else was straight forward

Since are preliminary task I feel that I have learnt a lot about the process involved in the making of a thriller. I feel like I have learnt a lot about camera, editing, sound and mise-en-scene of films. Looking at are preliminary task and our final thriller opening there is a huge difference in quality which show how our group has improved over the last few months. I am really happy with how far me and my group members have come since we started this task.

What I feel I have learnt from this task is how to be a better

group member by sharing and including other peoples ideas for our thriller into our final project, as you cannot think your view is the only view, looking back, with all the knowledge I have now, I wish I could go back and start again as I think I would be a lot better. I also learnt a lot about editing film material as at the beginning of this I wasn’t that good at editing footage but this whole process has built my confidence up to the point where I am capable to do it on my own and to a good standard.
