XPXPBackground Summary• The project covered two community units, Achego and

Katolo all under East Kano location in Nyando District.• The location has a total population of 7,842 of which

50% are men and the rest are women. • The main economic activity in the area is rice farming

with pockets of horticultural farming.• The area is prone to floods and therefore at a high risk

of water bone diseases and food insecurity• The area is served by Kinasia dispensary, Olasi

dispensary, Katolo Manyatta health centre and Katito health centre

-Low utility of available land -Some people easily discouraged when met with challenges-The power that lies in the registered groups is not being utilized-CHWs getting involved in too many activities with other NGOs-Low levels of commitment with some members -Low capacity for agribusiness

-Presence of TICH ready to give capacity building- Can learn from partnerships that have already grown e.g. nearby Gem /Gem Rae-Groups can be a channel for trainings -Irrigation possible for farms at the river-Out of school youth can provide labor-Financial resources will soon be available from the TICH SACCO-Existence of community college-Data from CBIS will be an eye opener for areas of weakness that need to change-Possibility of new partner organizations joining the partnership

-Drought-Floods-Crop destruction by cows who are left to graze freely-Burden of disease
