Why A European Christmas??

“It was during my travels in Europe in the early „70‟s that I experienced my first white Christmas. At the time I was working for an Australian tour company that was based in London, and in the off-season, they ran ski packages to Austria for Australian and New Zealanders. I was fortunate enough to have several more Christmases in Austria (and later Switzerland and Germany) during the next 5 years as my work required me to oversee ski destinations and winter packages that the company offered. In the decades following, and after having tour my own companies in the USA and Australia, I still enjoy operating and hosting a white Christmas tour every year. Once you experience a true white Christmas tour—you‟ll never want to go back to the heat of an Australian Christmas! Only in Europe can one enjoy the festive atmosphere that is created during this special time of the year. The Christmas Markets with their specialty foods, mulled wine, decorated booths selling all varieties of local handcrafts, carollers, excited children and families, the music and much more! It even puts everybody in a different frame of mind! We have taken care to select destinations where we are assured of snow during the Christmas period. Our hotels are carefully chosen for their location, facilities and atmosphere and ease of accessibility. Our es-corted tours are designed to show you the best of the European Christmas Markets and allow you plenty of time to soak up the special atmosphere. Our Austrian White Christmas tour has become our signature tour and this is the one that I enjoy and escort each year. Won‟t you join us on one of our tours?” Trevor Sheahan Managing Director European Travel Direct

No Christmas will be more memorable than one spent in the spectacular beauty of the Austrian Alps. Centuries old villages and towns decorate their streets and main squares and many have the traditional Christmas Markets where local craftspersons offer their wares, and the sweet aroma of hot mulled wine, candied fruits and roasted chestnuts permeates the air. It's a period when everyone cele-brates this special time of the year, and you can only appreciate this time when you place yourself in this beautiful picture. Won't you join us? Tour Itinerary: 17 Dec (Fri.) VIENNA – the Imperial capital. Arrive in Vienna and check-in to your hotel, the Hotel de France. Your body clock will tell you whether you can start exploring the city on your own….or to relax at the hotel and perhaps catch up on lost sleep. Our Tour Man-ager will be on hand to help you throughout the day. Tonight the tour group will gather in the hotel bar for a Welcome Drink…and a chance to meet your fellow travelers. This will be followed by an included dinner in the hotel restaurant. (D) 18 Dec (Sat.) VIENNA. BAVARIAN ALPINE CHRISTMAS 20—27 Dec. 2010 GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, GERMANY

The alps of southern Germany (Bavaria) – form the perfect backdrop for a white Christmas vacation. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is Ger-many’s premier winter resort, and both the skier and non-skier can enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional German Christmas. This des-tination is ideally suited for both individuals and families.

The Destination: Garmisch Partenkirchen is Germany's undisputed "winter sports capital", located only a short distance from the

Austrian border in the country's southwestern corner. Famous for it's annual New Year Ski jumping competition televised all over the

world, and as a former site of the Winter Olympics, Garmisch today is a large, cosmopolitan town with plenty to see and do both on

and off the slopes.

It is a town that is also rich in history and culture. Local people often dress in traditional styles ("Dirndl" for women and "Lederhosen" for men) - without being paid to do so by the tourist board. Many of the older buildings are decorated with beautiful frescoes - wall paintings that are often centuries old. All around is magnificent mountain scenery, dominated by the mighty Zugspitze to which lifts rise over 2,962 metres (nearly 7,000 feet) from Garmisch - producing one of the world's biggest lift served verticals (although unfortunately it is not possible to ski all the way back down!). The final string to the Garmisch bow is its status as a health resort, or rather as a "climatotherapeutic training centre" - a program of exercise and complete body management instigated with the help of the Institute of Medical Balneology and Climatology at the Univer-sity of Munich. The objective is to prevent illness in its early stages by making the body and spirit and stronger, although Garmisch is also a good choice for those seeking to recuperate from existing conditions in the pure mountain air of the resort. Price Includes: • 7 nights accommodation, standard room with private facilities • 7 buffet breakfasts • 7 lunches or dinners (4-course, 4-choices including vegetarian) • Special Christmas Eve festivities at the hotel • Special lunch and dinner on 25Dec. • Afternoon tea daily • Horse-drawn sleigh ride on 25 Dec. • Free entry to Garmisch Casino • Use of hotel sauna and wellness facilities, and indoor heated pool • Free shuttle bus transportation pass for 1 week Package Prices: AU$1795.00 Prices are PER PERSON and based on twin/double room share Family groups are very welcome on our Christmas packages. Please contact our office if you need special rooming/bedding require-ments. Your Hotel—3-star Hambergers Post Hotel ―Our house started as a restaurant over 400 years ago. It is for over 200 years in the possession of the family Hamberger and is now called "Hambergers Post Hotel‖. In former times it was called "Obere Taferne" today for the native ones it also still remained ―Der Oberwirt‖. By the natural situation one assumes our house was one of the first estates in Reit im Winkl. On the door frame of the entry door from marble is chiselled the date of the year 1548, thereby one assumed that this house was again built in this year. The building is documentary mentioned in the year 1300, for the first time, but these documents are discovered by Alfons Egger in 1860. In 1927 the large hall was built and opened at the New Year's Eve 1927/1928. This burned down completely in 1970, but one year later it was already renewed and opened again. Many considerable personalities such as Carl Lindberg held up flight exercises in preliminary year of war, and other personalities stayed in our tradition house. Since the year 2002 the house is now led of Caspar Hamberger the new manager‖. Ski Equipment & Lessons: These are available from severl ski shops in the village. The hotel staff will direct you to the most convenient. Access to resort: By rental car from Munich or Salzburg, approximately 1 hour’s drive. By train from Munich to Prien am Chiemsee, then bus or private transfer to Reit-im-Winkl (approx. 90 minutes). Why not make a visit to Salzburg, or the Saltmines at Berchtesgaden. Both are less than 1 hour’s drive from Reit-im-Winkl
