MERLIN

• Project objectives– To investigate and demonstrate the viability of an integrated

management system to achieve a more sustainable and optimised energy usage in European Mainline Railway systems

– Where MERLIN‘s results are implemented it expected an important reduction of the energy consumption by 10%

• Project benefits– MERLIN will contribute to the EU‘s aim of a more sustainable rail system

and a reduction in CO2 via a more efficient use of energy resources

• Project outputs– Proposals for Technical Recommendations (UIC/UNIFE TecRec)– Future Business models & recommendations (smart energy

management, cost saving)– Optimised solutions for current and future business models– Numerical models and simulations to demonstrate the architecture

developed for the above TecRec
