It sounds almost too good to be true but Invisalign can train your teeth into a new position without braces – and people can hardly see you’re wearing it!

The Invisalign aligner is a lightweight, clear plastic casing that sits over your teeth. Your first visit to

You don’t need to have a dentist’s referral to come to – you can simply phone for an appointment.

Everyone at is very friendly and they’ll make you feel welcome. Your first appointment is all about getting to know you, understanding your teeth, discovering what you want to achieve and working out the best treatment plan for you.

You’ll spend time with a treatment coordinator and the orthodontist discussing the different choices and, at the end of the appointment, you’ll have a written treatment plan and cost for your parents to consider.

Embrace your treatment

Once your parents have agreed to your treatment plan, it is time to start the treatment itself. You don’t need to worry when you come to have your Invisalign or braces fitted – the fitting isn’t painful!

The orthodontists will explain how to look after your braces or Invisalign and give you other tips to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Regular adjustments

The way orthodontic treatment works is to train your teeth into new positions step-by-step. This means that once your teeth have moved a little, we need to adjust the treatment to encourage them to the next position.

This applies whether you use Invisalign or braces.

You will have regular appointments to adjust your braces, or to fit the next stage of your Invisalign treatment. The amount of time between check-ups will vary depending on the treatment – the orthodontist will tell you when you need to come back.

Follow-up appointments

Once your braces or Invisalign have been removed, it’s easy to forget your teeth weren’t always this perfect! But don’t forget to come back for your check-up appointments to make sure everything is still okay. The cost of adjustments and follow-ups is all included in your treatment plan price.

Getting off to a good start

It will take you a week or two to get used to your braces so be prepared for things to feel a little strange at first.

There may be some initial discomfort as your teeth start to move. Your orthodontist will explain more about the process and you can find useful hints in our leaflets and on the website.

Mouth health – now and always

A beautiful smile needs a healthy mouth so embrace proper brushing for life! It is more important than ever when you have braces because food and plaque left around them can cause tooth decay and swollen gums.

Follow your orthodontist’s instructions for brushing after every meal while you are wearing braces. A daily fluoride mouth rinse will also help clean your mouth and keep your teeth strong.

Healthy food and drinks

You can eat most things with your braces but start with soft foods in the first week. Your orthodontist will tell you what you need to avoid – definitely no hard, sticky sweets like toffee and Minties!

The high sugars and acids in soft drinks, juices, sports drinks, energy drinks and flavoured milks are not great for your teeth at any time and will cling around your braces. Only drink them occasionally and brush afterwards if you can.

Don’t forget to wax!

Sometimes braces can irritate your cheeks or lips. To help prevent this, place a small piece of wax on the bracket that is rubbing as soon as you notice any irritation.

Orthodontics doesn’t replace general dental care so make sure you continue to see your dentist for regular check-ups.
