Stephen Ministry

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds.” Hebrews 10:24

Stephen Ministry is an outreach of Christ’s love to the ESUMC family and to our community. James chapter 2 tells us, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. We need to be doers of the Word, not just hearers.” Talking about caring for one another doesn’t make us a caring congregation. We need to be doers! We can knock on someone’s door and say, “Jesus loves you”, and he or she may listen. If we meet their needs during a time of crisis and allow the person to experience Jesus’ love and forgiveness flowing through us, they most likely

will listen. To learn more about Stephen Ministry, contact Peggy Strack, 570-421-3280, ext. 23.

FAITH PROMISE UPDATE

Faith Promise Team is excited about Partners to be supported in 2014. Many are the same. However, the Sherrer’s as Partners in 2013 have now been sent to Ukraine with YWAM. In that tumultuous nation they are reaching out in God’s name to serve the people in whatever way they are called. One of the UMCOR (United Methodist Commission on Relief) projects is in the Philippines for help following the Haiyan Typhoon. It surely was a devastating typhoon and the assistance needed will continue for many years. UMCOR will be there to help. Also, your support for domestic relief through UMCOR will continue.A new Partner is Urban Promise International. Kelly Malafyt works with this organization and through her we learned about a great need for electricity in the Safe Haven Orphanage in Malawi. The President of Urban Promise writes: “I, like many of you, take the gift of electric light for granted…What if I told you that the boys living in our Safe Haven orphanage still cook and heat water over charcoal, and study with only the light of a candle?”There is a simple solution to this dilemma; solar energy. With the wonders of technology, it is possible to harness the sun’s energy and bring electricity to Africa’s remote places. Imagine giving our young people the gift of light for two or three more hours of

educational instruction, hot water, access to computer training and cleaner methods to cook their food! The team has taken on the support for solar panels costing $45 per panel at a cost of $2,000 for FAITH PROMISE. Continue to pray and support our Partners. Donations may be given today in the “Mission” envelopes or anytime with a note designating it for Faith Promise or Missions.
