FirstthespecificationsoftheEsthec®TerracesystemaredefinedintheEsthec®Terracefactsheet.Afterthis,thecontentofaEsthec®Terracesystemislisted.Beforestartingwiththeinstallation,aninstructionofthehandlingandpreparationsisgivenandeverydifferentpartinvolvedislisted.To

ThesmallamountofdifferentpartswhichformtheEsthec®Terracesystemmaketheassemblyverysimpleandeasytoexecute.Inthischapterallpartsarelistedandexplained.Lateronthesepartswillbementionedinthechapters‘Handlingandpreparations’and‘Installation’.
®3.1EsthecTerraceprofile
AnEsthec®Terraceprofileisproducedoutofaglassfibrereinforcedcomposite,whichiscoveredwithahighqualityEsthec®toplayer.ByuseoftheglassfibrereinforcedcompositetheEsthec®
®Terraceprofilehasveryhighstiffnesspropertiesandstillisalightweight.WiththeEsthectoplayer®alladvantagesofapplyingEsthecmaterialareprovided.
ThestandardwidthofanEsthec®Terraceprofileis100mm1.Esthec®terraceprofilesareproducedinastandardlengthof3,000mm1.Theheightis21mm.Theweightof1,000mm1Esthec®terrace
®profileisapproximately1.700gr.TheEsthecTerraceprofileisproducedinadarkgrey/anthracitecolour.

InsomesituationsitispossiblethatonesideofanEsthec®Terraceprofileisvisable.Forthissituation,theEsthecTerraceside-profileisavailable.
TheEsthec®Terraceside-profileiscoveredbothonthetoplayeraswellasononesideoftheprofile.ThestandardwidthofanEsthec®Terracesideprofileis102mm1.Theheightis21mm.The terrace profiles are produced in a standard length of 3,000 mm.The weight of a 1,000mm terraceprofileisapproximately1.800gr.

3.3Assemblyclips
AlldifferentassemblyclipsareinjectionmouldedpartsproducedoutofPolyoxymethylene(POM).POMisanengineeringthermoplasticusedinprecisionpartsrequiringhighstiffness,lowfrictionandexcellentdimensionalstability.
®Threedifferentassemblyclipsareavailable.CliptypeAistoassembletwoEsthecTerraceprofileslineartoeachotherinthelengthdirection.WhenusingCliptypeBortypeCliptypeC,anEsthec®Terraceprofilecanbeassembledina90oangleoneachendoftheprofile.
®Becauseallassemblyclipsare2,5mmthicktheywillincreasetheheightoftheEsthecTerraceby
®2,5mm.ThesystemheightoftheEsthecTerraceis23,5mmNexttothis,alldifferentassemblyclipsprovideaspaceofapproximately5mmbetweeneachEsthec®Terraceprofile.Tomounttheassemblyclips,holeswithadiameterof5mmareprovided.Aparkerscrew,oraspecificscrewwhichfitsbesttothebackingmaterialandtheassemblyclips,canbeappliedformountingtheclips.

ThisassemblycliptypeismarkedonthebottomoftheclipwiththeletterA.Asmentioned,cliptypeA®istoassembletwoEsthecTerraceprofileslinearinthelengthdirection.Thefoursemi-round
®elementswilllockinsidetheroundopenshapeoftheEsthecTerraceprofile.

ThisassemblyclipismarkedonthebottomoftheclipwiththeletterB.Asmentioned,withassembly® ocliptypeBanEsthecTerraceprofilecanbeassembledina90angleoneachendoftheprofile.On
assemblycliptypeB,2semi-roundelementsarereplacedby2slides.These2slidescanbeinstalledontheopenendofeachprofile.AnimportantdifferencebetweenassemblycliptypeAandcliptypeBisthelockingfunctionofcliptypeB,providedbythe2slides.WheninstalledtheEsthec®TerraceprofilecannotberemovedwithoutfirstremovingtheassemblycliptypeB.
Furthermore,theendcapfitsoverthisclip,andcanbeinstalledintheopenendoftheEsthec®Terraceprofile.Wheninstalled,theendcapcoverstheelementsofcliptypeBwhichremainvisualafterthisclipisinsertedintheopenendoftheEsthec®Terraceprofile.

ThisassemblyclipismarkedonthebottomoftheclipwiththeletterC.ThetechnicalshapeandallspecificationsofassemblycliptypeBareapplied.ThedifferencebetweenassemblycliptypeBandassemblycliptypeCisshowninthefigurebelow.AssemblycliptypeCis3mmshorterthanassemblycliptypeB.InthiswayassemblyCliptypeCcanbeappliedwhennoendcapwillbeinstalledaftertheassemblyclipisinstalled.Inthiswaythesame
®spaceof5mmisprovidedbetweentheEsthecTerraceprofiles.

ThelockingfunctionoftheassemblyclipasdescribedforassemblytypeBisalsoprovidedinassemblycliptypeB.
3.3.4 Clipassemblyrail
InordertospeeduptheinstallationprocessEsthecdevelopedanassemblyrailfortheclipstobefixedon.Thisrailcanbepre-assembledwithassemblyclipsbeforeinstallationstarts.Inthiswaytimewillbesavedfortheinstallationofindividualassemblyclips.Byinstallingthepre-assembledrail10assemblyclipsareinstalledin1time,leavingtherequiredspaceinbetweenfortheEsthecTerraceprofiles.
3.4Spacer
ThespacerpartisaninjectionmouldedpartsproducedoutofPolyOxyMethylene(POM).Thespaceris2,5mmthickandcanbeinstalledunderallthreetypesofassemblyclips.Alsothespacerscanbemountedontoeachothertoincreasetheheightonthisspecificlocation.

Aspacerpartcanbeappliesindifferentsituations.Itcanbeinstalledtoincreasetheheightbelowthe
®EsthecTerrace.Forinstance,wheninstallingonaflatsurface,thespacerwillprovidemorespace®belowtheEsthecTerracesowatercanrunmoreeasytoavailabledrains.Alsospacerscanbe
appliedwhenthesurfacetoinstalltheEsthec®Terraceonisnotcompletelylevelled.InthissituationitisusedtoleveltheEsthec®Terrace.

3.5Endcap
TheEsthec®TerraceendcappartisaninjectionmouldedpartsproducedoutofLuran®S.ThisengineeringthermoplasticisthebrandnameforStyrolution’sstyreneacrylonitrilecopolymersthat
®havebeenimpact-modifiedwithacrylicesterrubber.TheLuranSgradesandtheirblendsstandoutfortheirresistancetoweatheringanduv-light,fortheirhighageingstabilityandgoodresistancetochemicals.
Asaresult,Luran®Sissuitableforcomponentsthatareexposedtosun,rain,windweatherbut®neverthelesshavetoexhibitaparticularlyhighqualityoverthelongterm.TheLuranSbrands
offerabroadspectrumofextraordinaryproperties.

4.Handlingandpreparations
Beforeinstallationvariousimportantpreparationsarerequired.Alsotherighthandlingofthedifferentassemblypartsisimportant.
4.1Handlingafterdelivery®Checkifthepackagingisstillintactbeforeopeningit.PleasecontactEsthecbeforeopeningadamagedpackaging.Iftheboxisnotdamaged,avisualinspectionshouldbeperformed.PleasechecktheEsthec®Terraceprofilesforanydamageorirregularities.
WhenremovingEsthec®Terraceprofilesoutofthebox,orwhenplacingEsthec®Terraceprofileson®topofeachotherbesurenottomove/scrapetheGRPbackingovertheEsthectoplayer.Thiswill
®
surfacesandGRPbackingsonGRPbackings.Thisminimizes(butnotexclude)thepossibilityforscratches.
4.2Workingenvironment
®Priortotheinstallation,thelocationwheretheEsthecTerracewillbeinstalledshouldbeclean.Becausedust,sandandorotherconstructionmaterialcandamagetheterraceitisadvisedtoworkin
®acleanenvironment.Still,afterinstallationtheEsthecTerraceitshouldbecleanedandthreatedaccordingtothecleaningprotocolasdescribedinthisdocument.
4.3Workingclothes
®InstallationofanEsthecTerracemustbeexecutedwearingcleanclothesandcleanshoes.Inorder
®nottodamageordirtytheEsthecTerraceunnecessarily,thetechniciansneedtowearshoeswithcleansolesoruseprotectiveshoecovers.
4.4Surfacepreparations
Whenapplyingtheterraceonaflatsurfacethissurfaceshouldbelevelled.Useastraightedgetocheckwhetherthereareanybumpsorotherirregularitiesonthesurfaceandtodeterminewhetherthesurfaceisrough.Removeallirregularitiesandroughpartsbysandingthemdownbyhandormachine.Iftheirregularitiesaretoolarge,thesurfaceneedstobelevelled.
4.5Backingstructurepreparations
®WhenapplyingtheEsthecTerraceonabackingconstruction,thisconstructionshouldbeprovidedandsafelyinstalledonthegroundsurface.Amaximumspanof500mmissafetoapply.Furthermore,everyassemblyclipmustbeinstalledonthebackingstructure.Itisnotadvicedtokeepassemblyclipsfloatingbecausethiswilldecreasethelockingfunctionoftheassemblyclips.
4.6Assemblymaterial
Becausetheassemblyclipsareproducedinablackcolourtheyaresometimeshardtoseparatefromeachother.AlsoBoxesoftheassemblymaterialarequitesimilartoeachother.Itisadvisedtoseparatethedifferentpartsbeforestartingwiththeinstallation.Usinglabelswillhelpyoutoindicatethedifferentparts.Tocheck,everyassemblycliphasthetypenumberengravedinitself.Thisletteristobefoundonthebottomofeveryassemblyclip.

4.7Cutting
Tokeeptheworkingenvironment/locationclean,alsoduringinstallationoftheEsthec®Terraceitisimportanttoexecuteallrequiredprocessesthatmightpollutetheworkingspaceinadifferentlocation.Soforinstance,whencuttingoftheEsthec®Terraceprofilesisrequired,acuttinglocation
®mustbeappliedonasafedistancefromthelocationwheretheEsthecTerraceisinstalled.ItisadvisedtouseadetailedCADdrawingofthedesignofthetotalterrace.Withthisdrawingthelengthcanbecalculatedinwhichtheprofilesshouldbecut.Inordertocreateacleancutadiamondbladeequippedcrosscutsawmustbeapplied.Toremovetheremainingsplinters,asmallsandingpaperonasandingblockcanbeused.
4.8Alignment
AperpendicularmustbeappliedtoensuretheEsthec®Terracewillbeinstalledcorrectly.Whenthisisnotapplied,theEsthec®Terracecannotbeinstalledcorrectly.Useacarpenter'spenciltomarkthislineonthesurfacebeneaththeEsthec®Terrace.
4.9Conditionedareaandweatherchanges
Theambienttemperatureforinstallationisoptimalaround20°C.
4.10Finalcheck
Tocheckifthepreparationsareexecutedproperly,thefollowingpointsshouldbeobservedtoensurethattheinstallationcantakeplaceunderoptimalconditions:
A.AllEsthec®Terraceshouldbevisuallycheckedandalldifferentinstallationmaterialmustbemarked.B.ThesurfacetoinstalltheEsthec®Terraceonneedstobelevelled,tidyandvisuallyclean;C.Thebackingstructure(whenapplied)shouldbecompletelyinstalled,levelled,prepared,
mountedandchecked.D.Thedesignoftheterraceshouldbeclear(definitiveoutercontours);E.Theclearspacesaroundtheterraceneedtobeknown;F.Thealignmentshouldbeprepared;G.Detailsinsidetheterraceshouldbeprepared(drains,cornersetc.);H.Thereshouldbesufficientlightavailable;I.Thecuttinglocationshouldbeprepared.

5.Installation
InthischaptertheinstallationofanEsthec®Terracesystemisdescribed.Alldifferentinstallationphasesareexplainedstepbystep.Afterashortpreparationofthedifferentparts,firsttheEsthec®Terraceprofilesareassembledinthelengthdirectionlineartoeachother.ByusingassemblycliptypeAstandarddistanceof5mmisappliedbetweeneverytwoprofiles.
Aftertheinstallationoftheseprofiles,thepossibilitytoassembleprofilesina90oangleonthetwo®sidesoftheEsthecTerrace,usingassemblycliptypeBorC,isdescribed.InthismanualcliptypeB
isapplied.Thismakesitpossibletoexplainhowandwhentheendcapcanbeinstalled.Forthisinstallationtheassemblyrailmentionedinchapter3.3.3isnotused.

AftercuttingtheprofilestheyfirstneedtobepreparedwithassemblyclipstypeAononesideofthe®EsthecTerraceprofile.Themaximumalloweddistancebetweentheassemblyclipsis500mm.

ThefirstrowofassemblyclipstypeAmustbemountedonthebackingsupportoronthebasewhere®theEsthecTerracewillbeinstalledon.Forthisinstallationtwoparkerscrewsorcustomselected
screwswhichfitbesttothebackingmaterial,areapplied.ThisclipispositionedtotheinsideoftheEsthec®Terracesoitwillnotbevisualafterinstallation.
