    Dear ES and MS Parents,

We are very pleased to introduce you to a brand new

and exciting high school initiative developed by theHS Guidance Department in cooperation with the HSAdministration:

The Bearcathe Bearcathe BearcatSummer Internshipummer Internshipummer InternshipProgramrogramrogramWe are planning to develop a four day summerinternship in June 2011 for some of our sophomoreand junior high school students with variouscompanies in the Metro Manila area. However, inorder to make this work, we need reputablecompanies from a variety of industries to formpartnerships with us and take part.

As parents of our ES and MS students, you may own, be employed by, or know of a company interested insupporting this very worthwhile endeavor. We ask for your support in helping us develop potential internship

placements and subsequently, lasting positive relationships with companies in the Metro Manila area.

We ask that you take time to reflect on this important initiative and its value for our ISM community. If you are in aposition to take one or more of our students as an intern at your company, please see the attachments provided. The attachments explain our pilot internship program further, and include the company participation applicationneeded for interested organizations. Please keep in mind (for interested organizations), we would ideally like thecompany application filled out and email back to me by May 13.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

    Thank you for your support.

    Sincerely,

Doug McQueenHS Grade 9/10 Guidance Counselor

From HS Guidancerom HS GuidanceOne important change for next year is that ECLC (Early

Childhood Learning Center) will now be called Kinder-garten. We are regularly asked what ECLC in factstands for, and while there is a history to why it wascalled that, we feel it is easier for everyone, includingnew families transitioning in, if the name is changed toKindergarten. Next school year we will have four sec-tions of Preschool which is a 2-year program for 3, 4and 5 year olds, five sections of Kindergarten, six sec-tions each of Grades 1, 2 and 3, and seven sections ofGrade 4. We are currently in the process of sectioningstudents for next year, and on the last day of school,June 9, sectioning cards will be available with informa-

tion on your childs class for the 2011-2012 school year.

We hope everyone has a great weekend!

    Company Participation Introduction

International School ManilaBearcat Summer Internship Program 2011

    Pilot Year

The High School Guidance Department at International School Manila (ISM) is very proud to introduce you to theBEARCAT SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM developed for our Sophomores and Juniors (Grade 10 and 11) forthis coming June 2011.

In order to complement the excellent academic instruction our students are receiving here at ISM, we feel the abilityfor selected young ISM men and women to gain some real world working experience is absolutely invaluable totheir high school journey of self-discovery. The vision and goal of the program is for a pool of our dedicated and mo-tivated students to be exposed to the specific responsibilities of a chosen profession, experience the day to day op-erations in a selected field, and learn the necessary transferable skills valued and sought after in employees by em-ployers.

For this first pilot run, we are hoping to place approximately 20 students in various internships from a variety of

fields in the Metro Manila area. Specific responsibilities for each internship will vary depending on the company/fieldand the internship developed by you, of course, but having said that, we are hoping that you could provide our stu-dents with an enriching placement experience that would include giving them various real world responsi-bilities (based on your needs and the abilities/desires of the intern) as well as job shadowing opportunitiesto experience your expertise (or anothers) at your place of work.

One other stipulation we ask of you (for obvious communication reasons) is that the immediate supervisor of theintern(s) be a fluent English speaker. In addition, we also ask that a representative from the companyattendour Internship Meet and Greet tentatively scheduled for June 1 from 4:00 to 6:00 at ISM (Details to followshortly). This is a great opportunity to meet with your intern(s) so you get to know each other and to clarify any ques-tions/concerns either party may have over coffee/juice and hors doeuves. This is also an invaluable learning experi-ence for our students to talk about themselves, their accomplishments, goals and aspirations in a semi-professionalsetting. We hope you can see the value in this for our students and take part.

If you are interested in providing a 4-day internship from June 13th

    to June 16th

(for one or more of our students),please fill out the attached Internship Company Application and email it back to me at [email protected] Friday May 13 at 12:00pm.

Keep in mind that while we are requesting intern placements for a period of only 4 days, the ability to keep anintern for an extended period of time over the summer is possible, but it is something that would be negotiatedbetween you and the intern(s). The extended placement would fall outside of the responsibility of our high school.Youll notice the attached company application allows you to indicate either preference.

Also, please understand, especially as this is a pilot year, the ability for us to place an appropriate student in yourparticular company will depend on the overall demand by students and the number of internships supplied by com-panies. We would inform you by Tuesday May 24

thif a placement could or could not be arranged. If you have

any questions in the future, don't hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to explain our vision further.

I truly look forward to working with you in providing a memorable experience for one (or more) of our students.

    Sincerely,

    Doug McQueenHS Guidance Counselor

    IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

    Re-Enrollment for SY 2011-12

REMINDER: Re-Enrollment information for RETURNING STUDENTS for SY2011-12

Re-Enrollment requirements for all returning students will include, minimally, submission of an updated Health Form or Physical Form (depending on grade level) tothe Clinic for a Clearance Signature and a Clearance Signature from the CashiersOffice on the Re-Enrollment Form.

The Re-Enrollment Form and other requested forms for each re-enrolling student willbe available by the beginning of April online from our website under Admission and Re-Enrollment & Withdrawal or at the Admission Office during office hours (Monday toFriday; 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Parents may pick up a set of Re-Enrollment Formspersonally or your child can come to the Admission Office and get the forms. If you would like to have your

driver or househelp pick up the forms, please give them a letter of authorization to collect the Re-Enrollment Forms for your child/children.

REMINDER: For STUDENTS NOT RETURNING next school year(Does not apply to graduating seniors)

If your child(ren) will not be returning to ISM for the 2011-12 school year, please inform the AdmissionOffice as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Parents are obliged to officially inform theSchool in writing on a WITHDRAWAL NOTIFICATION FORM, before the second Friday of May, if theirchildren will be withdrawn. Failure to do so will lead to a deduction of US$1,000 from the FacilitiesUpgrade Deposit (FUD), in compensation for having held a space for the child and thus preventing the Schoolfrom offering that space to another child prior to the summer holiday break. The Withdrawal Notification

Form can be obtained from the Admission Office or from the ISM website under the Admission tab and thenclick on Re-Enrollment & Withdrawal.

We currently have very few families indicating that they will not be returning and consequently there are anever growing number of applicants in a WAITPOOL for possible openings. This is causing great distress andanxiety in those families (and in the Admission Office). If you are sure that your child will be leaving ISM,please submit a Withdrawal Notification Form. This will be a great help for our planning and to the manyfamilies waiting to be admitted to the school. Thank you.
