Equilibrium in gangster movies: Goodfellas: The movie begins with and equilibrium, as Henry is delighted with his new life as a gangster. He goes hike to his mother smiling in his suit, to which she tells him “You look like a gangster!” This is the first sign of disequilibrium. The equilibrium continues after this for Henry however, as his newly found friends protect him from getting in trouble with his parents as a result of school ever again. As Henry gets older he earns more respect, becoming equality as feared in the process. Henry rises in the ranks of the Mafia, meets his wife and is now richer than ever before. However this is where the disequilibrium begins to occur. Henry marriage begins to fall and he gets sent to prison. How her there is still a sense of equilibrium, as once in incarceration Henry and his accompanies are still treated with the utmost respect as a result of their Mafia status. This means they are given access to the kitchen, along with ingredients and utensils in order to prepare food. However despite his high status in the Mafia; Henry can never become a made man, as he has Irish blood and is not fully Italian. Pulp Fiction: There is equilibrium at the beginning of Pulp Fiction. Vincent is given the task of taking his boss’ wife Mia out to dinner whilst he is away. The two understandingly begin their night awkwardly, to which Mia even comments on. However as the two begin to get more comfortable the night goes well. The two enjoy their food and begin to dance together, even winning a competition for doing so. However the disequilibrium of the film begins once Mia mistakes heroin for cocaine, resulting in her facing a near

Pulp Fiction:There is equilibrium at the beginning of Pulp Fiction. Vincent is given the task of taking his boss’ wife Mia out to dinner whilst he is away. The two understandingly begin their night awkwardly, to which Mia even comments on. However as the two begin to get more comfortable the night goes well. The two enjoy their food and begin to dance together, even winning a competition for doing so. However the disequilibrium of the film begins once Mia mistakes heroin for cocaine, resulting in her facing a near death experience after snorting this. As a result, she needs an adrenaline shot in order to be revived. However there is also disequilibrium for other characters in the movie. Marcellus (Vincent's boss and Mia's husband) and boxer Butch reach an agreement for butch to throw his next fight for a large sum of cash. How beer Butch doesn't do this, he in fact kills the man during the fight. This results in Vincent and his partner Jules to pursue Butch, resulting in Butch being forced to flee with wife. This also means Marcellus lost his money without the desired outcome: the reason he sends Vincent after Butch, ultimately resulting in Vincent's death at the hand of Butch. Despite the men's disagreements. The equilibrium is restored once Butch saves Marcellus, albeit after the two fight.
