70 years ago on a hot and humid morning an American B-29 airplane flew over the

On the 70th anniversary of the atomic bomb exploding over the city, ENW has come
to Hiroshima’s Peace Park to record 2: _________ from the commemoration
ceremony.

come to Peace Park today August 6th 2015 to remember the bomb that fell on this city
70 years ago. Just after 8:15am the Enola Gay, piloted by a 12-man crew and led by
4: _________ Paul Tibbets, dropped Little Boy – the name of the atomic bomb. From
32,700 feet the bomb fell before 5: ___________ just 1,800 feet over Hiroshima. With a
blinding flash of light and with temperatures of 4,000C the bomb vaporised people
and animals; melted buildings and reduced the 400 year-old city to dust and ruin.
3 On August 5th 1945 Hiroshima had a population of 350,000 people. Within seconds
of Little Boy exploding on August 6th – 80,000 people had been 6: __________
instantly. In the next few months the death toll would rise to 135,000 people – nearly
half of the city killed by just one atomic bomb.
4 Hiroshima 7: __________ Kazumi Matsui has used his 2015 Peace Declaration to
urge world leaders to create a better trust between each other. Mayor Matsui said,
“My Peace Declaration calls on world leaders to stop taking actions that causes mistrust in
others, so no one ever again suffers a 8: __________ attack”. Mayor Matsui added he
thought world leaders should visit Hiroshima so they could talk with the
Hibakusha, the atomic bomb 9: __________, so as to better understand the tragic
results of nuclear weapons.
5 70 years after the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki 10: __________ still debate if
the bombs needed to be dropped. One view is that it could have taken another two
11: __________ to defeat Japan, so the atomic bombs ended the war speedily. The
alternative view is Japan was actually close to surrender and the real reason was to
examine how successful nuclear bombs could be. Whatever the truth, standing here
in Peace Park 70 years, and 80 12: __________ after the first atomic bomb exploded,
ENW feels grateful that these remain the only two military atomic bombs in world
history.
