Effective Hiring (Statements 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Do you know who your HR Liaison is? Where do you go to for assistance when you are hiring a new employee? What standards do you follow when you complete a hiring matrix? What paperwork do you need to retain for records? Hiring is an essential skill to any supervisor’s job. The following workshops will give you the foundations you need to make sure your position descriptions define the skills you are looking for, your postings are effective and you have the skills to hire the right person for the job:

What is your department’s mission and vision? How does that coincide with the mission and vision at Texas A&M University? Are you confident in your ability to make good decisions that have positive outcomes for the organization? Supervisors are faced with complex issues on a regular basis that requires effective decision making skills. The decisions made do not only need to be effective but need to connect to organizational goals and objectives. The following workshops will help you to follow an effective decision-making process, manage time and priorities to ensure goals are met and set effective goals for yourself and your employees:

Delegating for Success (Statements 10, 12, 13, 14)

Do you delegate tasks to employees only because they have the necessary skills, or do you look at delegation as an opportunity to build on the existing skills of your employees? Master delegators are able to recognize which tasks need to be delegated and whom to delegate those tasks to. Many different factors come together when deciding the appropriate delegation of work tasks. The following workshop will give you foundational skills in delegation and help you pair the right task with the right employee at the right time:

Managing Conflict (Statements 15, 16, 17, 18)

Managing conflict can be one of the most uncomfortable, difficult and emotionally taxing responsibilities of a supervisor. We often confront conflict by trying to fix the symptoms of the conflict. Effective supervisors know that in order to truly deal with conflicts you have to get to the root of the problem. These supervisors are also able to utilize their available resources when conflicts need a higher level of intervention. The following workshops will aid you in recognizing the root causes of conflict and give you the confidence necessary to address these sensitive situations so that you can move your team past the conflict to more productive behaviors:

Discipline (Statements 19, 20, 21, 22, 23)

How do you know when you have a performance issue or a discipline issue? Do you utilize fair and ethical practices when handling disciplinary actions? Can your documentation stand up under investigation or in court? The disciplinary process is complex, but when used appropriately can actually lead to more productive and efficient employees. Disciplinary actions should not be seen as a way to get rid of an employee but as a means to help that employee develop behaviors that will make him or her a valuable asset to your team. The following workshops will help you recognize when you have a disciplinary problem. They will also give you the confidence to address that problem and involve the employee in the problem solving process to help change the unwanted behavior:
