description

‘Entrepreneur India’, a monthly magazine published by NPCS, is aimed at simplifying the process of choosing the suitable project for investment. It makes business decisions easier and trouble-free by providing a list of right projects for investment. Unique among project investment magazines, ‘Entrepreneur India’ is dedicated to the business of identifying sound investment projects. Every issue consists of a new list of projects which are meticulously selected by the NPCS team after being screened on various investment factors. NPCS team, before labeling a project as ‘Right investment’, studies various aspects of investment like product demand, market potential, raw material availability, suitable location, payback period, costs involved and breakeven point. The importance of project identification is known to less and many a times, entrepreneurs spend substantial time and resources on project planning, execution and control, while little attention is paid to project assessment and selection. Such times lead to disastrous business decisions and often a project is declared a ‘dead investment’. Most entrepreneurs, these days, have the capital but not the expertise to shortlist a suitable project to park their money. And ‘Entrepreneur India’ helps remove such hurdles for a businessman to ensure successful ventures and expansions. Correct project identification is a herculean task for any entrepreneur who is willing to expand or venture and he is often faced with the dilemma of identifying a suitable project that has minimum risk to his capital and has high growth potential. Through this journal we aim to educate and enlighten entrepreneurs about such projects and provide them with an updated list of profitable ventures with its project profile and project cost estimation (i.e. Plant Capacity, Plant & Machinery Cost, Working Capital, Total Capital Investment, Rate of Return and Break Event Point). Also, the magazine provides a snapshot of NPCS activities in a month. It includes brief profiles of several market research reports, project identification reports and books published by the company. The magazine has nationwide reach and a substantial readership. We at NPCS, ensure that business ventures and expansions happen but only in the right projects and at the right cost.Projects covered this month: 1. Guar Gum Powder Using Splits

G uar is also called guaran, is aGalactomannan. It is primarily the groundendosperm of guar beans. The guar seeds aredehusked, milled and screened to obtain theguar gum. It is typically produced as a free flowing, pale, off-white colored, coarse to fine groundpowder. Guar gum is water-soluble plant mucilageobtained from the grand endosperms of cyanopsistetragonoloba, cultivated in Pakistan as livestockfeed. The water-soluble portion of the flour (85%)is called guaran and consists of 35% galactose,63% mannose, probably combined in apolysaccharide 5-7% protein.

Approximately 90% of total Guar produce is usedfor production of Guar Gum and rest is used forculinary purposes and cattle feed etc. Guar gum, alsocalled guaran, is a galactomanan. Guar gum isproduced fromthe endosperm, which is about 35-42percent of the guar seed mass, and mainly consists ofgum Poly groups of monogalactoses (a type of sugar).Different grades are made based on purity andpresent viscosity of powers in water. Guar gum hasalmost 8 times the thickening power as corn starch, and is used in dressings, sauces, milk products, andbaking mixes.

    Baby Diaper &

    Sanitary Napkins

Adiaper or nappy is a kind of underwear thatallows one to defecate or urinate in a discreetmanner. When diapers become soiled, theyrequire changing; this process is often performedby a second person such as a parent or caregiver.Diapers are primarily worn by children who arenot yet potty trained or experience bed wetting. However, they can also be used by adults withincontinence or in certain circumstances whereaccess to a toilet is unavailable. These can includethe elderly, those with a physical or mentaldisability, and people working in extremeconditions such as astronauts. It is notuncommon for people to wear diapers under dry

available for use. Many companies manufacturepackaged intravenous fluids, as well as productswhich can be mixed with sterile water to preparea solution for intravenous administration.Intravenous fluids can be broken into two broad

groups. Crystalloids such as saline solutions containa solution of molecules which can dissolve in water.

When crystalloids are administered, they tend tocreate low osmotic pressure, allowing fluid to moveacross the blood vessels, and this can be linked withedema. Colloids contain particles which are notsoluble in water, and they create high osmoticpressure, attracting fluid into the blood vessels. Bloodis an example of a commonly administeredintravenous colloid.

I.V. fluid demand is normally linked to the numberof hospital beds. Observations show that 18 bottlesof I.V. fluids are consumed per bed per month in thecountry. The demand is estimated to increase at arate of 9 to 12% per annum. The present demandlevel is estimated to be around 2200 Lakh bottles perannum. Areas with high population density andaverage temperatures are major consumption areasof I.V. fluids. Demand is high Uttar Pradesh,Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and WestBengal. North India alone account for one third of

lotions or essential oils in order to help mask thescent of a soiled diaper or to protect the skin. Care ofdisposable diapers is minimal, and primarily consistsof keeping them in a dry place before use, with properdisposal in a garbage receptacle upon soiling. Stool is

supposed to be deposited in the toilet, but is generallyput in the garbage with the rest of the diaper. As awhole establishing Baby Diaper & Sanitary Napkin isone of the project which has good prospect for theentrepreneurs to invest.

    Starch & Starch Derivatives(With 4 MW Co-Generation Plant)

Maize starch chemical formula (C6H10O5)n alsoknow as Corn starch or flour is a

fundamental ingredient in most of the packagedfood and industrial products; it is extracted fromthe corn kernel and has a distinctive appreanceand feed. Maize starch in natural, modified, pregeletanised and dextrinised forms providesviscosity, texture and other desired properties toall types of food & paper, products from canned

chilled frozen to microwaveable goods, dry mixesand extruded snacks. Practically every industryin existence uses starch or its derivatives in oneform or another.Maize is classified into dent, flint, waxy, sweet

and pop corn categories. Dent corn also known asfield corn, containing both hard and soft starch, becomes indented at maturity. Flint corn having hard, horny, rounded or short and flat kernels; with thesoft and starchy endosperm is enclosed by hard outerlayer. Both of these varieties are used for industrialpurposes. Popcorn has small pointed and roundedkernels with very hard endosperm which on exposureto dry heat popped or evereted by the expulsion ofthe contained moisture and forming a White starchymass many times the size of the original kernel. Sweetcorn is distinguished by kernels containing a highpercentage of sugar in the milk stage and thereforesuitable for table use.

    Crude Rubber Processing

Naturally, rubber is produced by the process oftapping of the plant called Hevea Brasiliensis. The rubber tree is a native of the Amazon Riverbasin in South America. The ideal rubber growingregions should be 8 degree North of Equator, 10degree South of Equator, and high temperature, altitude not beyond 400m and high humidity. The main use of natural rubber is in automobiles.

In developed countries nearly sixty per cent of allrubber consumed is for automobile tyres and tubes. In heavy duty tyres, the major portion of the rubberused is NR. In addition to tyres a modern automobilehas more than 300 components made out of rubber.

Indian maize has white, red, purple, brown ormulticolored kernels and is characteristically dent

corn. The dent corn is useful for starch processing bywet milling method. The total area under maizecultivation in the world is 139 million hectares with aproduction of 598 million MT (mMT). USA is the worldslargest producer and exporter of maize with an outputof 240 mMT from an area of 29 million hectares. Othermajor producers are China (125 mMT), EuropeanUnion (39 mMT), Brazil (37 mMT), Mexico (19 mMT),Argentina (14 mMT) and India (11 mMT). Due todemand growth, it is a good project for entrepreneursto invest.

Dextrose in food is a simple sugar. It is actuallya type of glucose, which is a monosaccharidethat is widely found in nature and is used bynearly every living organism as a source of energyat the cellular level. The glucose molecule comesin two molecular forms that are mirror images ofone another, and dextrose is one of those forms.Dextrose (or D-Glucose) is a simple hexose mono-saccharide sugar. It is so called because it turnsthe plane of polarization to the right. Entirelyderived from corn it is free from all other sugarsand starches, proteins, alcohols and heavymetals. It is the natural form of Glucose.Dextrose is a form of glucose, a monosaccharide,

the foods that you eat into glucose, carbohydratesprovide the most amount of raw materials for glucose.Glucose molecules can occur in two different shapes,

known as stereoisomers, and one of those forms iscalled dextrorotary glucose. Its also known by thechemical name of dextrose monohydrate, or d-glucosefor short. The food industry calls this sugar dextrose.

The demand for dextrin and dextrose is highlyinfluenced by the growth of the manufacturing sectorsmainly textiles, glass, printing ink, food, soft drink, tanning, tobacco and the like. The manufacturingsector has been growing by more than 6% in the pastfew years. Assuming the past trend will continue inthe future, an annual average growth rate of 6% isapplied to forecast the future demand by taking thecurrent effective demand as a base. Spices impart aroma, color and taste to foodpreparations and sometimes maskundesirable odors. The volatile oils from spicesgive the aroma and the oleoresins impart thetaste. There is a growing interest in the theoreticaland practical aspects of the inner biosyntheticmechanisms of the active principles in spices, aswell as in the relationship between the biologicalactivity and the chemical structure of thesesecondary metabolites. The antioxidantproperties of herbs and spices are of particularinterest in view of the impact of oxidativemodification of low-density lipoprotein cholesterolin the development of atherosclerosis. There are a number of masalas with various

ingredients. Garam Masala is commonly used incurries, and curry masalas are also availableseparately. Biryani Masala, Chat Masala, Pav Bhajimasala, Chicken, Mutton, Fish etc., masalas are now

also contain garlic, oil, ginger, etc. Masala is a wordthat is often used in an Indian kitchen. It literallymeans a blend of several spices.

India is the largest producer, consumer andexporter of spices, with a 46 per cent share by volumeand 23 per cent share by value, in the world market. The Indian spice export basket consists of around 50spices in whole form and more than 80 products invalue added form. However, a few spices and valueadded forms constitute a major segment of thecountrys total export earnings. India accounts for25-30 per cent of worlds pepper production, 35 percent of ginger and about 90 per cent of turmericproduction. Among the Indian Federal states, Keralatops in pepper (96 per cent), Cardamom (53 per cent),Ginger (25 per cent) production in the country. Andhra

Pradesh leads in Chilly and Turmeric production inthe country with 49 per cent and 57 per cent. Incoriander, cumin and fenugreek production in thecountry, Rajasthan emerges as the largest producerwith 63 per cent, 56 per cent and 87 per cent ofdomestic production. Repellent. Mosquito is one of the most harmfulinsects for mankind. To destroy them manypreparations are available in the market in various

recipies like pest killer spray, soap, oil, powder, repellent etc. Out of these, mosquito repellent is themost popular as it has germicidal and disinfectantproperties and is able to repel mosquitoes and isconvenient to use.

At present there is excellent scope for itsmanufacture. It is therefore advisable to carry out alittle research work in formulating, before themarketing is done. The competition in this line isvery less and its scope of consumption is large havein comparison. Today, Morteins 11 per cent sharemakes it the second largest brand in the Rs. 350crore pest control market. Godrej Hi-Care, with itsGood Knight, Hit and Jet brands, is leading with acollective 45 per cent share. But according to RCI,the leader might see a battle among its own brands

(say, Good Knight versus Jet in mats), from which itcould benefit. On the other hand, Sara Leesconsiderable stake in Godrej Hi-Care has put RCI onalreat. Meanwhile, Baygon continues to be strong inliquids, though low key on advertising. Due todemand growth, it is a good project for entrepreneursto invest.

    Dehydrated Onion

Onion is one of the most important commercialvegetable crops grown in India. Bothimmature and mature bulbs are used as vegetable

and condiment. It contains vitamin B and a traceof vitamin C and also traces of iron and calcium. The outstanding characteristic of onion is itspungency, which is due to a volatile oil known asallyl-propyl disulphide. Onions compared withother fresh vegetable are relatively high in foodenergy, intermediate in protein content and richin calcium and riboflavin. The main advantages of dehydrated onions are

that they are easy to store, being lighter in weightand smaller in bulk than fresh or other processedonions. They are cheap to pack compared with cannedgoods. They do not require refrigerated storage as dofrozen onions and the contents of a container can beused some time after opening provided they are notdehydrated. The newest dehydration process appearsto be a variation on the air-drying process and isbased on the principle of vapor pressure differentials, using air circulated around the onions at relativelylow temperatures to sweat the water from the food.

Onion is an important vegetable crop grown inIndia and forms a part of daily diet in almost allhouseholds throughout the year. onion is one of themost important but perishable groups known. It isalso used for medical purpose. The global processedfood market is estimated at $3.2 trillion. The Indianfood market is estimated at $182 billion. Food

    Thermocol Cups,

    Glass and Plates

Thermocol is formed by the synthesizing ofspherical particles consisting of air (at a rateof 98%) contained within an infinite number ofhollow cells. These cells, forming a structure ofpellets fused together, give consistency andrigidity to the final product. The advantages aremany: the products manufacturer requires verylittle energy, thereby allowing full weight to begiven to ecological consideration. Of fundamental

importance is the treatment with the vapor, which, as well as having a technical functionduring the manufacturing process, renders theproduct hygienic through sterilization. Thermocolis a good resister of cold and heat but since it is apetroleum product it dissolves in any solvent ofpetroleum.Foamed plastics materials have achieved a high

degree for importance in the plastic industry. Foamscan be made soft and flexible to hard and rigid.Expanded polystyrene is one of such foams. It may beused such as thermal insulation material; acoustictreatments shock protective packaging, etc. Itsproperties can be varied widely in manufacture tomeet both general and specific demands.

Today the demand on the global styrene marketis on a gradual rise. The EPS and ABS demand rise isthe key driver of the styrene market development. Itis expected that the demand growth tempo will keepthe significant indexes through the coming 2-3 years, supporting that way the styrene production and pricein the foreseeable future. Activated Carbon from

    Coconut Shell

Activated carbon in any form of carbon showshigh absorptivity for gases, vapours andcolloidal solids in either the gas ion or liquidphase. It is available in many forms such as pellets, granules and in powder form. Activated carbon isvery important chemical has wide application andemployed by numerous industries which requireabsorption of certain gases and vapours inpurification, in catalytic chemical reactions, decolorisation of vegetable oil and sugar solutions.Activated carbons have a large surface area, liquidphase activated carbons are light in weight, fluffy

powder while gas phase activated carbons arehard and are in the form of pellets.Almost any carbonaceous raw material can be

used for the manufacture of activated carbon. Woodpeat and lignite are commonly used for thedecolourizing materials. Bone char made by calciningbones is used in large quantity for sugar refining.Nutshells coal, petroleum coke, and other residuesforms are used for absorbent products. There is aconsiderable scope in India for the manufacture ofactivated carbon from the cashew nut shells.

The global activated carbon industry is estimatedto be around 1.1 million metric ton. The U.S is thelargest market, which will also pace global growthbased on anticipated new federal regulationsmandating mercury removal at coal-fired power plants. The activated carbon industry consists of more than50 units spread countrywide most of which are insmall-scale industrial sector (SSI Sector). Of the totalnumber of units in operation, only 10 to 12 unitscater to the national market while the other servethe local or regional markets. In general activatedcarbon is manufactured in the northern region fromwood charcoal (mostly made from pinewood) whereasin the southern region, it is made from charcoal ofthe hard shell of coconut. The total installed capacityof the industry is presently estimated at about 40,000tons per annum and production is put at around 30-35,000 tons, which includes purified regeneratedcarbon. Any entrepreneurs venture into this fieldwill be successful.

    Tyres for Truck, Lorry, Bus,

    Car & Cycle

The tyre industry is the largest part of therubber manufacturing industry, infact it is solarge that it is often classed as an industry in itsown right. It absorbs well over two thirds of allnatural rubber production and almost as large aproportion of synthetic rubber manufacture. Inmuch of the innovation in the wider rubberindustry both in terms of material and in terms ofmanufacturing emanates from the tyre industry.Light vehicle tyre and heavy truck and machinery

tyre are both part of the tyre market but differ in theircomposition and manufacturing process. Hence light

vehicle tyres are particularly passengers car tyre.Advances in tyre materials, tyre constructions andtyre manufacturing technology have led to new typesof products and the development of new marketsegments. Tyre manufacturing technology hasprogressed in parallel with tyre constructiontechnology so that tyres are now designed not onlyto meet specific performance targets, but also toenable improved manufacturability, i.e., moreefficient, lower cost and more uniform production.

The Indian tyre industry has come of age withthe manufacture of almost all types of tyres. Theindustry has an estimated turnover of close to Rs 200bn. It is made up of 40 players with an installedcapacity of 57.3 mn tyres. The industry claims aperceptible export market. Like the commercialvehicles and tractor segments, the off take of carsand two-wheelers has been fairly steady. Productionin most segments has increased by about 6%. Therehas been a steady flow of replacement market demandfor two-wheeler and car tyres. This and the increasein production of motorcycle tyres have sustained theproduction of tyres in the two-wheeler segment.

As a whole establishing Tyres Unit is one of theproject which has good prospect for the entrepreneursto invest.

    Latex (Rubber) Foam Product

Latex is originally defined as the stabledispersion of natural rubber particles inaqueous medium as produced in the rubber tree. They are complex colloid systems containingpolymer molecules as major fraction. The polymermay be a homo polymer or co-polymer .Stereoregularity and the complexity of the polymermolecules (linear / branched / cross linked) ismaintained in the latex form. Lattices are rubberyor resinous in nature and the rubber moleculescan be cross linked. Lattices can be plasticized or

oil extended. Lattices have their own mechanicalproperties and temperature limits of serviceability.Latex is a dispersion of rubber particles in an

aqueous phase. Most types of rubber, both naturaland synthetic, can be made into a latex form. Latexgets used in specialized applications such as thoserequiring oil, solvent or flame resistance. Differentmixing techniques produce different grades ofdispersions i.e. ball milling or ultrasonics for fineparticle dispersions and simple stirring or colloidmilling for coarse dispersions. Latex dipping is usedto make thin articles such as gloves, balloons, catheters, bladders; hot water bottles etc and veryfine particle dispersions are needed. Coarser particlesized dispersion (slurry) is acceptable for latex foam, used mainly for carpet backing. The following rangeof additives can be mixed with the latex dispersion oremulsion:

It is a worldwide multibillion dollar industry, Asteady flow of new plastic materials, productionprocessor & market demands has caused tremendousgrowth at 15% annually over 35 years. The globalconsumption of all plastics 80 million tonnes a yearnow. As a whole establishing Latex Foam ProductUnit is one of the project which has good prospect forthe entrepreneurs to invest.
