Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3
Hello Dear Padre Serra People and Fellow Disciples!
I was very excited when invited to write to you this weekend. While they are full of challenge andincredible responsibility, the readings we have been hearing the past few weeks are some of myfavorite.
Again this weekend’s Gospel speaks of the Eucharist and the promise of life everlasting, ‘Whoever eatsmy flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.’ We are called to not just receive but tobecome Christ’s Body for others.
What an honor! What a great challenge. What a responsibility.
The reality is that we are all totally undeserving of this chance to be Jesus for others. Yet somehow, inall of our fragility and humanness, God trusts us to do so. It has taken years (I’m a very slow learner!)but I know I must take this gift of the Eucharist seriously by accepting the challenge and theresponsibility to become Christ’s body in the world.
One way to be a responsible disciple is to stay current in the knowledge of our faith. We are blessedhere at Padre Serra to have a pastor, a staff and a team of leaders that believe in ongoing education andadult faith formation. I’m blessed to be able to offer you another opportunity to grow in your awarenessand knowledge of our Catholic faith!
Once a year the five regions of the Archdiocese each offer a 1day event for adults called RegionalCongress. We gather, celebrate liturgy, and attend workshops with topics and speakers that help us togrow as adult Catholics. We leave inspired and more confident to be what Jesus is certain we arecapable of ... being Christ’s Body for others!
Join us this year for the Santa Barbara Regional Congress on September 19, at Bishop Diego HighSchool in Santa Barbara, for a day designed to help us all grow in ourlove and understanding of our Catholic faith. I promise you will leavefeeling better about your role as a disciple and more confident about‘becoming what we receive!’
For more information you can get a Registration Book in the ParishOffice or by going to http://www.laarchdiocese.org/org/ore/sbpr/Documents/SBCongressReg,Book.pdf
