Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 3
Today I invite you to celebrate, participate and support two of our parish’sChristian Service ministries St. Vincent De Paul and Many Meals. Here aretheir stories:
From St. Vincent de Paul:Dear Parishioners,St. Vincent de Paul Society is our parish’s Christian Service and outreach to thepoor and needy of the Camarillo community. We are a 100% volunteer group andall of your donations go to serve those in need.
During the first half of this year, our Vincentians served 186 individuals with 439hours of volunteer service. We assisted with rent, rental deposits, motel stays for homeless, clothing, food and gas cards, utilities, medicine, transportation and moving expenses. Additionally 67 families receive weekly food bags from the pantry weshare with St. Mary Magdalen. Your donations of food in the boxes in the narthex provide food for that pantry. The food istransported there by a team of volunteers for whom we are so grateful!
Here is an example of what we are able to do: A few months ago a homeless woman who works two jobs was able to find anapartment through HUD. She was waiting to move in, and we were able to keep her and her daughter in a motel and providea gift card for Easter dinner.
Recently, we have joined forces with other churches in the area, with Project HOPE sponsored by the Camarillo PoliceDepartment and Lutheran Social Services to share concerns and ideas to address homelessness. We also work with severalother area churches to provide rental deposits and assistance for area needy. We also successfully sponsored five soupsuppers during Lent to raise money for rental assistance.
To help support our conference in a PAINLESS way, please join escrip, iGive and Ralph’s Community. To register for theseprograms go to the parish website page I Want to Be Involved, then St. Vincent de Paul. There are complete directions on howto register for these programs or Gary Borsos 5046854, [email protected].
These wonderful results would not be possible without God’s help and your generous contributions and support. Thank you,Padre Serra parishioners! For assistance or to volunteer for our conference, please call 5044753.
From Many Meals:This July Many Meals celebrates six years of service to our community. We are an allvolunteer organization that provideshot meals, food, clothing, other essentials and social service referrals. Each week over 80 volunteers cook and serve dinnerat St. Mary Magdalen on Mondays and at Trinity Presbyterian on Thursdays. In addition to the meal, we offer toiletries, laundry detergent, toilet paper, food and gas cards, shoes for children through the Happy Feet program, seasonally childrenreceive backpacks with school supplies and at Thanksgiving and Christmas, families enjoy catered holiday dinners. Wepartner with St. Vincent de Paul to assist people with shelter by providing accommodations at local motels. Since itsinception Many Meals has provided over 61,000 hot meals. In just the past six months, we have distributed 2,225 bags offood.
All of this is only made possible because of your generosity over the years and we are sincerely grateful. To continue thismuch needed ministry, we rely on your time, talent and treasure through donations of volunteer hours to prepare and servemeals, food, supplies and essentials, and monetary donations. Our annual fundraiser is Saturday, October 10 in the SerraCenter. For details on the event and to help Many Meals: [email protected]. Thank you!
