The 48 Angelical Keys - Cross Reference

In order to create theAngelical Lexicon, it was first necessary to create the Cross-

Reference. This contains the entire text of the 48 Keys- with the words arranged intocolumns and categorized by cross-reference numbers. The numbers are then used

throughout theLexiconto indicate in which Key, and where in the Key, any ngelical

word can be found.

!ee left two manuscri"ts containing the 48 Keys# The first is his "ersonal angelic

$ournal, where he recorded %al&age's transmission of the Keys.1 The other is a text called

the 48 Claves Angelicae- which is "art of a grimoire !ee created se"arately from his

$ournals, containing the ma$or "oints of his angelic magic(.) The words of the Keys in

the 48 Clavesha&e some differences from those in !ee's "ri&ate records. I assume the

differences are corrections !ee made between recording the words in his $ournal and re-

co"ying them into his grimoire.

*tudents might notice that the Keys in my Cross-Referencedo not match the same

Keys in The Enochian Magick of Dr. John Deeby +eoffrey ames, in The Comle!e

Enochian Dic!ionar"by !onald aycoc(, and other sources. hile these boo(s are

legendary, and were instrumental in my own study of the angelic language, I ultimately

disco&ered conflicts between their wor( and !ee's $ournals./

Therefore, the text in my Cross-Referencere"resents my own analysis of the Keys

and their grammatical structure- drawn first fromA Tr#e an$ %ai!hf#l Rela!ion..., and

secondarily from !ee's 48 Claves Angelicae. I ha&e stri&en to "reser&e the text as

recei&ed by !ee and Kelley, rather than forcing it to match my own ideas of what it

0should loo( li(e. here I ha&e encountered ambiguities in !ee's $ournals or doubt in

my own wor(, I ha&e used the 48 Claves Angelicaeas !ee's final-say on the matter.

The following "resentation of the ngelical Keys is di&ided into four columns#

In The Enochian Magic of Dr. John Dee, +eoffrey ames introduced a cross-

reference numbering system for the ngelical Keys, which seems to ha&e become

somewhat traditional among 02nochian scholars. Though my "resentation of the

Keys differs from ames', I ha&e chosen to retain the same style of cross-

referencing. 3%ote# The all of the ethyrs is really the 15thin the series.

6owe&er, again following tradition, I ha&e used 0/7 for its reference number

because the all actually re"resents thirty Keys.

2&ery word of the Keys has been assigned a number to designate its

location. 9or instance, the fifth word of the Twelfth Key is numbered 1).:. e

can, then, easily reference the Keys in this Cross-Referenceto see that word 1).:

There were many difficulties in the rece"tion of Key Ten. The original rece"tion
