The tour begins on Wednesday 3 June 2015 with a private reception hosted in the home of our American Friends’ president, patti White. EnO’s Music Director, Edward gardner, will be guest of honour, and we will enjoy a recital from one of our harewood Artists.

ENO HAREWOOD ARTISTS The commitment to nurturing new opera talent is a vital part of our work. EnO harewood Artists provides training and support for singers at the beginning of their professional careers, giving them an opportunity to develop and learn as they take on roles. The carefully-structured programme of training includes vocal and language coaching, work with distinguished exponents of their repertoire and access to a performance psychologist. The programme forges long-term links between the artists and EnO, with members developing international careers whilst remaining close to the company.

Directed by Martin Constantine, the performance provides a training opportunity for a young designer, director, producer and stage manager to work alongside a professional team from EnO to stage the production.

Katherine’s debut at EnO was as Donna Anna in Don giovanni in 2010, a role she returned to in 2012/13 as well as performing as Berta in The Barber of Seville. Katherine’s success in EnO productions and training as an EnO harewood Artist has led her to since perform internationally will renowned opera companies and symphony orchestras. We are delighted to host her return to EnO for this intimate end of season recital.

There will be bespoke opportunities arranged throughout the season for supporters to become more closely connected to the EnO harewood Artists through invitations to observe rehearsals and coaching.

THE INDIAN QUEEN Supported by the English Opera group and a special production support syndicate.

Devised and directed by Director in residence peter Sellars, the rich and transcendent score of purcell’s final unfinished opera is reworked for a new co-production with perm State Opera and Teatro real, Madrid. The new retelling recounts the initial confrontation between Europeans and the Mayans of the new World through a personal account from the female perspective, which Sellars has based on The Lost Chronicles of Terra Firma by nicaraguan author rosario Aguilar.

Led by baroque specialist Laurence Cummings this new production is set to the stunning backdrop of set designs from LA-based graffiti artist, gronk and stars exceptional young soprano Julia Bullock, for whom Sellars created the role, and leading British lyric soprano Lucy Crowe.

ENGLISH OPERA GROUP The English Opera group was founded to support our continuing commitment to produce world-class English-language opera and to celebrate operas originally written in English. This year members are supporting The Indian Queen. Members enjoy special access to the cast and creative team behind supported operas and an invitation to an annual recital of English opera music.

PRODUCTION SUPPORT To enable this very special work to be presented, we have also formed a specific group of supporters to invest in the production to ensure its success.
