Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid ( Lat)

1951 : Born in Kota Baru, Perak.

1960 : His cartoons and illustrations were published in Majalah Filem and Movie

News.

1964 : Tiga Sekawan was his first publication. It is a story about three friends

who work together to catch some robbers. He was paid RM25.

1968 : He earned RM100 monthly for his drawings.

1970 : He moved to Kuala Lumpur. He was offered a job as a crime reporter but

chose to become a cartoonist. He worked on an editorial comic strip called

Scenes of Malaysian Life.

1979 : His autobiography called Kampung Boy was published. Kampung Boy

has since been translated into French, English, German and Japanese. In

2006, it became the first of his books to be published in the United States.

1980 : Town Boy was published. In 2007, Town Boy became Lat’s second book

to be published in the United States.

1984 : He left the New Straits Times to become a full-time cartoonist and author.

2003 : He wrote Dr Who?! which he dedicated to Tun Dr Mahatir Mohamad, the

former Prime Minister, and his wife, Dr Siti Hasmah.

Lat wrote many other books between Town Boy, in 1980 and Dr Who?! in 2003.
