Ingredients: books, music, cinema, the-atre, culture, care of body and mind. Recipe: stir the contents, styles and horizons, invent new events based on an intertwining of the arts, and sprinkle among the historic buildings, streets and squares of a city with a unique skyline and thousands of years of history. This is the Cortona Mix Festival, the multi-disciplinary gala inaugurated in 2012 and promoted by the Cortona Cultura Mix Festival Committee (composed of Grup-po Feltrinelli, Orchestra della Toscana, Accademia degli Arditi and Officine della Cultura) and the Municipality of Cortona: an oasis of entertainment, reflection and relaxation at the height of summer, in the heart of Italy. The theme of this seventh edition of the Festival is encapsulated in the phrase Words are important: from 18 to 22 July 2018, leading figures from the contemporary cultural scene will accom-pany their audiences in an exploration of music, fiction and poetry, covering both reflection and analysis. A key guide to current issues and an invitation to focus on the profound meaning inherent in each thing, cutting out the background noise

and eliminating the superfluous. Whether they translate personal stories or collec-tive experiences, private testimonies or metaphors encompassing all mankind, words mould our reality at the same time they describe it, lifting the veil which obscures it. And if our screenings of the best documentaries of the past sea-son reveal fragments of this reality, its soundtrack may be heard in the notes of our concerts which represent a precious musical alphabet: from jazz to rock, from ska to classical melodies, Cortona will fill up with a harmony of diverse genres, each with its own message. The forms may alternate, the means of expression may vary, but the essence of the Festival remains unchanged: fusing the arts in a Mix which relates the present, looks to the future and remembers the past. With events for all ages, the programme offers a rich blend of conversations, concerts, shows, special events: a long journey which starts on Wednesday morning and ends with the closing party on Sunday evening at the Girifalco Fortress.
