Engineering skills and expertise impacts
• Requires a different mix of engineering skills and expertise• Companies must upgrade skills and domain knowledge in:
• Software architectural partitioning and security• Cybersecurity• Hardware• Connectivity and infrastructure expertise
Hiring and expanding skills base expertise in ADAS, V2X, security from adjacent markets

Strategic partnerships
• Full proprietary and organic development prohibitive and not conducive to re-use
• Software partnerships• Domain knowledge/expertise• Reusable assets for efficiency
• Participation in university, consortium and government development/testing programs
• IC partnerships to ensure lifecycle management and efficient reuse of high cost/EDD software assets
Investment in inorganic growth and domain experts needed for rapid market penetration

Inputs and security – threat analysis
• Possible goals for attacks• Disruption of ordinary operation of car• Disruption of secure operations of car• Acquiring access to private data• Modification of accessed private data
• Potential entry points for security breaks• Software updates• USB and SD card access• Wi-Fi connections• Bluetooth connections• JTAG interfaces (see high-level architecture model)• Automotive buses like CAN bus, Ethernet and MOST

Security – lines of defense
• Interfaces (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, CAN …)• Firewalls• Input data validation and access control
• Applications (internal and third party)• Secure inter-component communication• Protect data integrity and confidentiality
• OS• Access control, intrusion detection• Secure/verified boot• Privilege escalation
• Virtualization• Isolate domains• Memory accesses
• Hardware support (SHE / HSM)• Acceleration of security operations

Design impacts with increasing ADAS/UI
Sensor inputs, management and user interface (UI):• Larger, higher resolution and more capable consumer
interfaces to aid driver awareness, interaction and entertainment
• Driving 3-4 displays (multiple domains controlling and driven from one module)
Impact:• Larger SoCs with larger (and several) memory devices• Higher density PWBs, higher layer count• EMC/SI design rules expertise critical for performance, compliance• Smart dissipation of power and domain isolation
![Page 10: Engineering the New Mobility](https://reader035.fdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062904/587296441a28ab36118b7637/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Design impacts with increasing ADAS/UI
• Quantity, resolution and thermal dissipation of user interfaces
• Larger displays• Higher brightness to fight washout and/or compensate for
dead-front or smoked lenses• Smaller package requirements in driver awareness zones
Impact: • Much higher dissipation (20-30 watts) and constrained rise over
ambient thermal requirements• Requires unique thermal management materials (weight and efficiency)• Isolation of zones (both thermal and EMI)

Component and system verification
• ADAS and autonomous will require sensor fusion, functional integration and process-process and module-module interfaces – very robust with low latency
• Component and system verification/validation techniques need to evolve• Better cooperation among suppliers to define, test, document interfaces• Boundary and stress testing • Use of AI/deep learning on software and system validation to continue to
evolve automation/testing

Leadership and structure
Suppliers and customers alike may need to adapt their leadership approaches and structures to be successful
Leadership• Development process adherence and enforcement • Traceability • Standards and regulatory compliances• Fast and bold … yet thorough
Structure• Build core areas of technical competency • Technical asset roadmaps management for organic development where needed• Regional expertise and knowledge
