    1 Introduction A GOOSE generated by a CMC Test Set can also be synchronized to an external time reference using SNTP. This Application Note describes how this function is enabled/disabled.

    2 SNTP Commands For enabling and disabling SNTP on a CMC Test Set CMEngine commands are used. Therefore first start the CMEngineTestConsole program, which is located in the installation folder of Test Universe in the Apps subfolder. C:\Program Files\OMICRON\Test Universe\Apps\CMEngineTestConsole.exe

    Figure 1: The CM Engine Test Console

    As a next step, scan for the CMC Test Sets in the network, select the appropriate device from the list and lock it. Important: The CMC Test Set has to be associated to the user's PC, otherwise no device will be found.

    Now the command for enabling SNTP has to be issued, which is as follows: sys:sntp:on("time.omicron.at",300) Between the quotation marks, the SNTP server has to be defined. The value behind the comma (300) defines the refresh rate in seconds. 300 seconds are the minimum, 86400 seconds the maximum. Note that it is only possible to define a domain for the SNTP server if a domain name server (DNS) is configured. Otherwise the SNTP server has to be defined by the IP address, which e.g. would look as follows: sys:sntp:on("172.22.100.1",300)

    After issuing this command, SNTP should be active. With the following command the status can be queried: sys:sntp:status? As a result the CMC Test Set generates something like this: 1 , t i m e . o m i c r o n . a t , 3 0 0 , 1 , 1 , 6 , 6 . 3 0 4 0 0 ;

    For turning of the SNTP function this command must be issued: sys:sntp:off
