CML International S.p.A. Abrasive belt replacement

NOTE: For the accomplishment and creation of a new type of abrasive belt, contact technical

personnel.

ABRASIVE BELT CHOICEThe tube notcher machine is supplied with 3 zirconium, cloth supported abrasive belts. If adifferent type of abrasive belt should be used, the following table includes useful indications onthe grain and the abrasive type choice, according to the material to be worked. Informationreported is not considered comprehensive, but an indicative information for the choice.

• The abrasive material type depends on the material to be worked:

ABRASIVE MATERIALTYPE

MATERIAL TO BE WORKED

Carbon steelCorundum Non ferrous materials and their alloysCarbon steelSteel alloyCeramic corundumCasts iron

Non ferrous materials and their alloysSilicon carbide Casts iron (*)Carbon steel

Non ferrous materials and their alloysZirconiumCasts iron (*)

(*) it may vary depending on the characteristics of the abrasive considered.

• The type of grain is a function of the hardness of the material to be worked. For lowhardness materials a coarser grain and a low hardness abrasive is suggested. A finer grainand a harder abrasive is suggested for a harder material.

The dimension of the contact surface must be taken into consideration when making the choice:− For small surfaces use a coarse grain and a soft abrasive;− For grater surfaces use a fine grain and a harder abrasive.

Notes for a correct use

− When the abrasive belt is new, it’s suggested to make it rotate on the machine by itselffor 5 minutes. This allows fibres to get settled increasing the belt working life.

− For paper supported abrasive belts, when a working roller of a diameter under 30 mm isused, it’s necessary to use an abrasive belts that has previously been used with a roller ofa bigger diameter. Otherwise, the abrasive belt can be damaged, since when it’s new itsfibre is excessively stressed on yielding. This problem is negligible for cloth supportedbelts.

CML International S.p.A. Skidding regulation

2Figure 7

SKIDDING REGULATION

!WARNING: The skidding regulation operation must be performed with the machine inmotion, and therefore with every protection on.

!WARNING: Skidding regulation can be carried out by screwing or unscrewing veryslowly the adjustment screw ( A ) ; an excessive regulation could make the belt collideagainst the roller support.

Skidding regulation is to be carried out after the belt has been inserted and already tensed, byfollowing the below sequence:

A. – Rough ( approximate ) adjustment ( withmachine switched off )

1. Open the notching / grinding roll protection cover(see picture 1 fig. 7 );

2. With left hand apply as much force as necessary tomake the belt rotate on the roller in the directionindicated in picture 1 fig. 7

3. Screw or unscrew adjustment screw ( A ) in order tobring the belt in central position on roller;

4. Close all protection devices and switch machine on;

B. – Fine adjustment ( with machine switched on )

1. with right hand screw or unscrew adjustment screw ( A) in order to correct eventual skidding;

2. start machine up by pressing “ ASPIRATOR” and“MOTOR”” buttons;

3. adjustment of eventual skidding;4. switch off machine by pressing “STOP” button.

!WARNING: If belt skids a lot when the machine starts up, switch immediately off themachine by pressing emergency button as to avoid collision of belt against roller holdingsupport.

CML International S.p.A. Machine use

MACHINE USEBUTT PROCESSINGFor butt processing we intend the processing made on the extremity of tubes to join them withdifferent angles.

Process consist in the material removal using a front working roller of a proper and desireddiameter.The innovative technology used by the era® tube notcher consists in moving forward the tubeto be processed and automatically move it along the belt to increase its working life. Once thetube is locked and necessary regulations have been made rotating the advancement hand wheel,it’s possible to notice both, the tube advance of the desired quota in respect to the belt and thetube movement along the belt.

BASIC REGULATIONSTwo regulations must be performed to obtain bothmovements. In the vice group (figure 9) of the machine, twogoniometric scales can be identified, one under the “tubelock vice” rotation plane (A), and the other in the “backslide“ (B). The angle read on the vice plane indicates theangle that will be obtained at the end of the tube buttprocessing. The angle read on the guide indicates thelongitudinal drive in function of the tube diameter and of thebelt length. To obtain correctly the desired processing consultthe two following tables, on which characteristic vice andguide angles are reported for 0°, 30°, 45°, 60° processing.

STOP AND END OF PROCESSThe machine is equipped with two stop commands, one tostop the machine under normal working conditions and the other for the emergency stop.At the end of the working drive it is mandatory to move longitudinally the slide back using thehand wheel, to place it at a proper safety distance before performing the tube dismountingoperation.

REAMINIG OPERATION FOR A DIAMETER UNDER 76MMFor tube processing up to Ø 76 mm refer to the following tables to set proper vice and backguide angles.

CML International S.p.A. Machine use

NOTCHING ADVICEOVERVIEWThe grinding-notching result depends on the quality of the material to be processed. Accordingto the material type to be processed, different characteristic belts can be used.

ROLLER ARRANGEMENTThe roller must be well aligned on the machine and it must be in a correct position with respectto the abrasive belt, this will avoid excessive stress to the machine. The vice opening must beregulated to properly contain the tube.

VICE POSITIONINGProcessing angles are reported on tables 1 and 2 as a function of the joint angle and of the tubediameter. On process starting position the tube must touch the abrasive belt at about 5-6mm fromthe edge. Avoid starting the process on the edge of the belt sice it could be damaged.

NOTE: For notching problems under non standard conditions, contact our project department.

FRONTAL NOTCHINGThis process is oriented to the jointure of tubes at right angle ( T ), normallyworking with the roller included in the standard supply. To obtain this typeof notching, regulate the tube holding vice in a 0° position, regulate thelongitudinal guide according to tables 1 and 2.

Example.If the tube diameter is for example of ¾ , the vice inclination will be of 0°with a “WEDGE” rotation of 3° related to a transversal advancement of theslide.

OBLIQUE NOTCHINGThis type of cut angle is used to perform coupling works between tubes at anot right angle. This process often generates confusion, since as you cannotice in the figure a profile processed at 30° shows an angle of 60°. Thisexample shows that to perform a 30° coupling between two tubes, thematerial to be removed is of 30°, leaving 60° of material on the tube,therefore, as reported in the previous tables, the reference axis for therotation degrees will be the one of the working roller, this means of the tubeon which the processed tube will be mounted.

!WARNING: Always control that the diameter of the tube to benotched does not exceed the belt width

CML International S.p.A. Maintenance

MAINTENANCE

MACHINE CLEANINGDue to the type of process performed it’s necessary to clean the machine very often:

− vice group;− aspiration conducts;

to avoid compromising the correct performance of the machine with excessive accumulation ofiron filings.Cleaning must be made using a proper aspirator and cleaning and scaling the front pre-filter.

!WARNING: Do not use any kind of lubricant.

WORKING ROLLER SUPPORTING BEARINGS

It’s necessary to control often the status of working roller supporting bearings. Due to highrotation speed and to the presence of iron filings, bearings could get damaged or broken.Bearings must be cleaned with an air pistol.

FRICTION CLUTCH REGULATION

The Tube Notcher is supplied with a friction clutch which intervenes under heavy workingconditions making the chain slip.The friction clutch is already well regulated. However, if it isnecessary to regulate the friction again, follow the below procedure as illustrated in figureno. 11 :

− unplug the machine from power supply;− place vice as in position illustrated in fig. 11 ;− spot the plate (A) on lower part of machine (fig 11 – seen from below), ;− unscrew the two screws of the plate for decreasing friction action,; screw for increasing

friction actionFigure 11

ASPIRATOR – FAN

For a better use of the fan (aspirator) under maximum safety conditions, motor bearings must bereplaced after 10.000 hours of work.If abnormal noise and/or vibrations coming from the fan are noticed, immediately stop themachine (and the fan) and perform an accurate inspection of mechanical connections and of therotor cleaning status and integrity.Make sure the machine on which the fan is connected is unplugged from power supply beforeperforming any control, maintenance and/or replacement operation.CML International S.p.A. declines any responsibility for damages caused by an improper use ofthe fan, for a not fulfilment of periodical maintenance/replacement prescriptions and for the useof not original parts. Complete or partial remotion of the fan is forbidden.

!WARNING: Unplug machine from power supply before performing any maintenanceoperation.

!WARNING: In any case the use of original parts is suggested.

CML International S.p.A. Transportation and handling

TRANSPORTATION AND HANDLING

TRANSPORTATION

The placement of the tube notcher machine on a normalizedpallet is expected for its transportation. If transportation mustcover a long distance, packing must be made impervious toatmospheric agents. Carefully load the machine and place it asillustrated in figure 11 to guarantee stability in case of suddenbreaking.

PACKED MACHINE HANDLING

To handle the packed machine use lifting means, pallet truck orforklift of an adequate capacity, as shown in figure 12. Forksmust be as long as the pallet or carton and of a proper capacity.

INTERNAL HANDLING

Use lifting belts for the internal handling of the tube notchermachine, attaching them as shown in figure 13.

!WARNING: Before lifting the machine with the belts,make sure they are in excellent conditions and of anadequate strength to hold the machine weight, refer to theTechnical Specifications section for the machine weight.

!WARNING: In case of unsteadiness do not try tomanually hold the suspended machine. On the contrary,keep at a certain safety distance during lifting operations. If any anomaly arise during liftingand transportation operations, keep as far away as possible without taking any actionmanually.
