Comedy Corner contributed by S. Higman (no. 174)(most copyright info unknown - web-exchange)

    Theater Guest

A man lay sprawled across three entire seatsin a theater.

When the usher came by and noticed this, hewhispered to the man, "Sorry, sir, but you'reonly allowed one seat."

The man groaned but didn't budge.

The usher became impatient. "Sir, if youdon't get up from there I'm going to have tocall the manager."

Again, the man just groaned, which infuriatedthe usher who turned and marched brisklyback up the aisle in search of his manager. Ina few moments, both the usher and themanager returned and stood over the man.Together the two of them tried repeatedly to

move him, but with no success. Finally, theysummoned the police.

The cop surveyed the situationbriefly then asked, "All rightbuddy, what's your name?"

"Sam," the man moaned."Where ya from, Sam?"

With pain in his voice Samreplied... "The balcony."

    The Parking Ticket

I went to the store the other day. I was only

in there for about five minutes, and when I

came out there was a motorcycle cop

writing a parking ticket. So I went up to

him and said, 'Come on buddy, how about

    giving a guy a break?'

    He ignored me and continued

writing the ticket. So I called

him a stupid idiot. He glared

    at me and started writing

    another ticket for having

    bald tires!

Then I really got angry at him. He finished

the second ticket and put it on the car with

the first. Then he started writing a third

    ticket!

This went on for about 20 minutes. The more

I abused him, the more tickets he wrote. I

didn't care. My car was parked around the

    corner.

    Three Old Ladies

Three old ladies are sitting in a cafe,

chatting about various things. One lady says, "You know, I'm gettingreally forgetful. This morning, I wasstanding at the top of the stairs, and Icouldn't remember whether I had justcome up or was about to go down."

The second lady says, "You think that'sbad? The other day, I was sitting on theedge of my bed, and I couldn't rememberwhether I was going to bed or had justwoken up!"

The third lady smiles smugly,"Well, my memory's just as goodas it's always been, knock onwood," she says as she raps onthe table. Then with a startled

look on her face, she asks, "Who's there?"

    Thirteen

A young man was strolling down a street. As

he passed a large building with a fence

around it, he heard a group of people chanti-ng "Thirteen, thirteen, thirteen" over and

    over again.

    Curious, he tried to see

    over the fence, but

    couldn't. Then he

    spotted a hole in the

    wood.

He put his eye to the hole. He just managed to

spy some old people sitting in deck chairs

chanting, before a finger came out of

nowhere and poked him in the eye. As he

staggered back, the old people started

    chanting, "Fourteen, fourteen, fourteen..."

    Scam targets seniors

At the May 12 meeting wewere told about a scam aimed atSenior Citizens. The criminalsare calling seniors and say that

their favorite grandson has beenarrested and is too embarrassedto call them so can they sendbail money. Of course this is notlegitimate but some people arefalling for it. Be careful whenyou receive a phone call asking

for money or personal informa-tion for any reason. Check outthe facts before you send moneyor give out information.

    Increased police presence

You may have noticed a big-ger police presence in the park. The officer that was present toldus that they are now doing theirreports in their cars to show apolice presence out on thestreets as a deterrent to crime.

We will soon be having ameeting about identity theft, phone scams and other things tolook out for. We will notify thepark when we have a date.

It was also suggested by ourcrime prevention specialist GaleBleth that you call all threecredit reporting agencies andput a freeze on your accountswhich means that you will haveto be notified if anyone is trying

to open or close an account inyour name. The only down sideto this is when you want to UN-freeze them it will take 3 to 7days.

Dont forget that residents ofSpanish Ranch 1 have adoptedthe creek behind the park andwe are having another clean upon June 20. Meet at the clubhouse at 9am. Come out andmeet new people, be of service toyour community.

The Board addressed concerns of utilitybilling along with gas credits residents receivedfor May billing, credits for gas without explana-tion. We have been billed for 30 plus days andwere paying higher rates since additional daysduring billing period placed us into Tier 3 & 4which is billed at a higher rate. Our meters are not

read on the first of the month although PG&Erates are based on the first of the month thru thelast day of the month. We do not understand whywe do not receive communications concerningcredits and improper billing for space rents.

We want residents to read their Leases.Leaseholders have recently received a noticerequesting payments for Property Taxes for 2007 -2008 for the amount of $11.80 per month for fiveyears. Where is it stated in your lease you areexpected to pay this expense?

We are organizing upcoming events, which

will include the Annual Pool Party (date unknowndue to the delay in opening the pool on schedule.)We want to be compensated for this delay throughan extended use of this amenity.

We will have a Dinner Event which willinclude entertainment and a Flea Market guaran-teed to be different than Flea Markets in the past. The current board is eagerly looking forward toFun Times since we have put forth so much workin the last eighteen months trying to help resi-dents of our park.

It hasnt gone unnoticed are efforts are omit-

ted from publications that showcase others andthere is the continuous attempt to downplay resi-dent concerns. We have our goals set and are mov-ing in the right direction, we are a determinedbunch and welcome our new board members, pic-tured.

Many board members along with other resi-dents from other mobile home parks in Haywardare participating in updating our RentStabilization Ordinance due to what took placeduring and after the Petition Process/Meet &Confer Meetings. Many residents here and fromHaywards other parks realize the need to updateour Ordinance. We have held two meetings withFran La Torre heading up our committee.

We look forward to upcoming dates for fun.Mark your Calendars for May 30th & June 20th.Look for our flyers with event details. We alsohope residents will attend the next Association

Meeting May 7, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Clubhouse. We are happy with the support we have receivedand look forward to serving your needs.

On a balmy April morning, justbefore our recent mini-heat wave, our work crew gathered for itsbimonthly cleanup event.

Participating this time were residents from ourown community including Marsha Pimentel, KevinKelly, Patty Smith, Kathy Calvert and Nichole Clark,Brian Harris, Dane Penneau III, and two participantswho signed up through the USA-Service.org Website,Carol Wilson and John Shultz. John had joined us inFebruary, and his willingness to provide rope andexpertise has proved invaluable.

It was with pleasure and enthusiasm that we wel-comed Chuck Horner, who is chair of the KeepHayward Clean and Green committee. Chuckexpressed his support for our efforts, and though ourscheduled third Saturday is the week before his regular

city event, he will promote ourevents among his participants.

We started at the Pachecoend of the creek channel thistime where Brian, Patty and Kevin got right to work

covering up the graffiti that covered the creek side ofthe bridge and the retaining wall. Patty, Kevin, Kathyand Nichole continued on, painting over graffiti on theretaining wall along the bicycle path until they ran outof paint. We've asked the county to provide us with 10gallons of paint, more rollers and handles before ournext event.

Carol, John, Brian, Dane, Marsha, and Dawnbegan working to remove debris from the creek chan-nel. We pulled out two shopping carts, various pieces of

carpeting, miscellaneous furniture andhardware, and approximately 20 bags oftrash. We made it as far as the floodcontrol release gates. We were quitehappy to find that a school of 15-20large (> 24" long) carp make their homein the deepest part of the creek channel.During their last round of creek clean

up Marsha and Dane found an injuredfemale duck on one of the islands. Wecalled Animal Control to come and res-cue the duck. The actual rescue was per-formed by Marsha, who scooped up the

duck in a net as it tried to swim away.

After a quick shower and change, we ended ourday's work at Quizno's for lunch, courtesy of SpanishRanch 1 NERT. Our next event is scheduled for 9:00amon June 20, 2009. We invite all who are able-bodied (oreven stalwart of heart) to join us for an enjoyable morn-ing of fun and hard work as we try to make our envi-ronment cleaner and greener. You can register for ournext event by calling Dawn at 510-887-2199, or justshow up on the date.
