There will be lots happening right throughout Term 4 and these things are communicated through our newsletter, app or Facebook page (just search for Elliminyt Primary for membership—open to parents/carers only). This week we kicked off with Bike Ed for the Year 3-6 students—it was great to see so many students prepared and ready to learn! We will be recording the number of students who walk/scoot/ride to and from school each day, hoping that people will make the effort to choose a healthy method of travel. This isn't always possible, but little efforts such as stopping the block before school and walking the remainder, also count! Hopefully we’ll have some sunny weather this month that will make that all a bit easier! ‘Nude Food’ At the end of last term, through the Year 3/4 Integrated studies unit, we had a focus on ‘nude food’ to minimize the amount of rubbish that school lunches produce. Our students surveyed the ‘pre’ and ‘post’ rubbish—stand by for those results! That was a great opportunity to try some ‘nude’ options for school snacks—but now that the unit is finished, the challenge is for us to continue those good habits as part of our normal routine. There are some great ideas/ resources online, just google ‘nude food ideas’! Birregurra Festival This weekend our P&F group are running a BBQ at the Birregurra Festival as part of their fundraising work this year. We were incredibly fortunate to get the meat and bread for the weekend COMPLETELY DONATED by our local Woolworths store! We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation as it means that, along with the donations of drinks from our school community, ALL of the takings will be going back into our school! If you are heading to the festival on the weekend, make sure you call past our stall and buy a sausage or two! Angela Hall Principal

WALK TO SCHOOL Walk to School this October and kick-start your child’s active habits for life. In 2016, we achieved: 758 schools participating, 144,928 students participating and 2,238,326 number of walks, rides and scoots. Vichealth’s Walk to School month encourages primary school children to walk, ride, scoot to and from school throughout October, to help them get the 60 minutes of physical activity they need each day. Walking to and from school can also give you more time to connect and chat with your kids, and the opportunity to meet up with the other local families along the way. Parents and carers are encouraged to discuss safe routes to school and talk about road rules, safe crossing points, stranger danger, etc in the lead up to Walk to School. For further information please visit www.walktoschool.vic.gov.au If you can’t walk all the way, your child can still get involved—simply drive part way and walk, ride or scoot the rest! If your child’s school is taking part in Walk to School, your child’s teacher will record how many times students walk to and from school during October, using a classroom calendar. There are also some fantastic prizes on offer for participating students and schools!

BOOKCLUB Book club order forms were sent home this week. Orders can be placed in the box in the office. If you are paying by cheque please make it payable to ‘Scholastic’. If you wish to order books without your child’s knowledge please mark this request very clearly on the order form. You will be personally contacted when the orders arrive so that you can collect the books from the office. Orders for this issue are due back on Thursday 26th October. We will be having another BOOK FAIR on Wednesday 29th November, where you buy one book and get your second book free. This will be a good opportunity for you to start your Christmas shopping or perhaps you could donate a book to our school library. Thanks, Marg Phillips
