Father’s Day Stall
THIS FRIDAY our P&F will be running their annual Father’s Day stall, providing our children
with an opportunity to purchase a gift for their Dad or the special man in their life. This is
only possible due to the amazing donations we get from our school community each year, so
thank you to those who have donated to this cause. As you know, our kids love ’shopping’ at
these events!
Footy Clinic
Tomorrow, 26 of our 5/6 students will head to Central Reserve for an AFL clinic held by
Geelong Football Club in association with the Next Generation Academy. This is free of
charge for our students. The students will be accompanied by Mr Harkness and there is also a
clinic running after school for girls footy, as well as for Indigenous students (girls and boys).
This commences at 4:30pm at Central Reserve.
Stig Wemyss visit
Also tomorrow we are fortunate enough to be hosting a visit by the renowned narrator Stig
Wemyss, thanks to the Colac Library. We are very much looking forward to being
entertained by Stig as he has a great reputation for engaging children in literacy in a fun and
creative way. This would be a great opportunity for ‘tea table’ discussion with your child, and
maybe the perfect platform for launching into a new book!
EPS Netball
Last Friday night our U11 girls netball team, the
Kestrels, were grand finalists! Unfortunately they
didn’t come away with the win, but we are super
proud of all of the girls for their effort and the way
they represented our school. Well done to them
all, and their coach, Renee Hall. It’s wonderful to
see our kids being successful, well supported and
conducting themselves in a way that reflects very
positively on our school—great work!
Bike Ed
Next week is the first week of our two week Bike Education program. All students, Years 3-6
need to ensure they have their bike and helmet at school on Monday, and then again each day
for the remainder of the week. Bikes can be left at school and can be locked up, however this
is the responsibility of each child. Teachers will not be checking the yard for bikes left out.

INDO CORNER:
THE GARUDA BIRD The mythical Garuda bird is found in many Indonesian sculp-tures, carvings and batik fabrics. In the ancient Indian Hindu sto-ry, the Ramayana, the Hindu God, Vishnu, rode Garuda across the heavens. The Garuda is also the symbol on Indonesia’s coat of arms (gold in colour) and their national airlines.

PARENTS & FRIENDS INFO
Friday is our Fathers Day stall. There is still time to donate, just
drop them in to the office. We would greatly appreciate items
in lots of 10 to allow for fair
distribution across all classes. Here are some suggestions: key rings, stubby holders, hankies,
chocolates, pens, baked goods, golf
balls/tees, socks, fishing things. The kids love shopping for Dad,
please remember to send a shop-
ping bag with your child/ren so they
put their goodies in, to take home.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK CLUB Book club order forms were sent home last week. If you wish to order books without your child’s knowledge please mark this request very clearly on the order form. You will be personally contacted when the orders arrive so that you can collect the books from the office.
Orders for this issue are due back by Thursday 5th September. If you are paying by cheque please make it payable to ‘Scholastic’. Remember every book purchased through the book club gives the school credit to purchase more books for the library.
Thank you, Marg Phillips

Classroom Connection
Our Year 3 to 6 students have continued their swimming lessons at Blue
Water. Some of our Senior Students will have the opportunity to attend a
football clinic with the Geelong Football Club at Central Reserve this week,
which is very exciting! 20 senior students have completed their 4th Maths Olympiad this week,
which has a focus on developing problem solving skills. Students will be lucky enough to meet Stig Wemyss who is an Australia
narrator of audio books for children and young adults this Thursday. Bike Education begins next week, which we are very much looking forward
to.
Preps It’s been all about dinosaurs in our Prep rooms with lots of fun, engaging and authentic learning
taking place through the Developmental Curriculum. In addition, our little ones have been
transferring and further developing their knowledge of dinosaurs through the creation of
information reports during Writing and role plays. Lots of number work has been the focus in
Maths sessions and learning how to summarise during reading opportunities. It’s not long now
until our little archaeologists make their way down to the big smoke to visit the Melbourne
Museum.
Years 1 & 2 The students have been very busy learning about and applying key elements to their persuasive writing. The kids have been eager to persuade their audience through the topic statement of ‘My
Dad’s the Best Dad’. Learning about compound sentences and the continuation of the ‘Under
Water’ theme has seen the 1-2’s continue to build their knowledge of these topics. During
Maths, students have been working hard to refine and improve their understandings of division
and data.
Years 3 & 4 During Maths, lots of engaging activities focusing on measurement and algorithms have been
evident in the 3-4 classrooms. Students have been working on information reports and using
punctuation correctly during Writing time. Creating a timeline of Australian Prime Ministers and
researching facts and details of a chosen Prime Minister have increased student knowledge of the
Australian Government.
Years 5 & 6 The big kids have continued to actively engage and represent our school values whilst participat-
ing in Winter Sports. Drawing caricatures of Prime Ministers and learning about how a bill is
passed in parliament have been key features of Integrated Studies. Having a free choice to create
a discussion text have formed Writing sessions. Students have also be discussing, analysing and
reviewing local, national and global issues through viewing ‘Behind the News’. Our senior
students have also been very focused when interpreting, analysing and creating sets of data during
Maths.
