From Julie’s Journal As I was getting ready to write my journal entry for this Chapel Challenge, I was also watching ice dancing in the Olympics. And they were interviewing the Canadian couple that eventually won the gold. They were at the top of their game and then the next Olympics they won the silver. They had lost some of their love of skating and just were about competition. They decided to end their competitive run and do the “professional” thing. Then something happened…they began to love what they did again. And they made the decision to give it one more try at the Olympics and they won two gold medals. I saw this as an analogy for some people’s relationship with God. They work and practice and do well in the spiritual disciplines. But then it becomes just work or they do it by rote or to check off some box. They lose their passion and love for God. With the Lenten sermon series, I want us to begin to fall in love with God again. Find the passion for living the life God desires for us. Yes it still takes practice. And it may be time consuming. Yet think of the reward…. A new love for your creator, your redeemer and your sustainer. … And the dancing with the Spirit can be so beautiful! Come journey with me and others as we fall in love with God all over again (or maybe for the first time). Together on the Journey, Pastor Julie

Work Day
We are having our next work day
to do some spring cleaning and get
ready for Easter on March 31. It will
be from 8:30-12 noon. We will have
tasks for all abilities and
Levels. As they say, many hands
make light the work.
Hello! Talia here, I’m looking forward to being
your new secretary here at the Chapel of the
Valley! I’ve recently moved to San Diego from
Orange County where I rubbed elbows with the
Big Cheese himself, Mickey Mouse, working at
Disneyland for a period of time. I myself am a
graphic design art-
ist and I specialize
in character illus-
tration. I look for-
ward to working
with you all.
~Talia~ Bucket of Change Sunday: On March 11th, the Sunday of
the time change, we will be collecting buckets of change. It
will go towards UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on
Relief) We will also be having a mission moment to hear
about UMCOR. Please bring all of your change and empty
your pockets to help towards our mission giving for the year!
And don’t forget to “change” your clocks and bring your
“change” to share.
(We also will take green money
and checks too)
Chapel of the Valley Finance Committee Notes Thanks again to everyone for their generosity and participation in the Stewardship campaign held in the fall. The pledged amounts are close to what is needed for our ministries, paying salaries for our employees, paying our bills and being able to complete several important pro-jects planned by the Board of Trustees. If circumstances change and you are unable to meet your pledge, please contact the financial secretary, Lorraine Lonn or Pastor Julie. Last Sunday, on February 18th, a special meeting of the Administrative Council was held to approve a financial budget for the 2018 year. We were waiting for updated information from the San Diego District on benevolence cost and a grant so our church could plan a realistic budget and spending program. The approved budget was for $153,000, which is within our means for projected income. Using existing funds, work is already proceeding on a number of important projects to repair or improve our church facilities. A new heater for the sanctuary has been installed, a new roof for the parsonage has been complete, and work will soon start on installing a new roof on the sanctuary. The estimate cost for these projects is not yet finalized, but will be in excess of $40,000. Through gifts and set aside funds, over $20,000 has been raised, and also a loan and grant from the California-Pacific Annual Conference. The loan is being paid back at the rate of $600 a month. Soon, our church is going to have a special fund appeal to raise money so that these projects can be completed as soon as possible, and the loan amount minimized. Details of this campaign will be forthcoming. I would urge everyone to consider a special donation to the church for these projects. Please prayerfully consider your church in this important need. Thanks to all of you who work on behalf of our church, and Allen Copeland Chairperson, Finance Committee
Easter Flowers Easter is fast approaching. We will be having signups for Easter lilies starting in the next weeks. Be watching. Candy Schauer

I would like to thank my church family for the
cards and prayers on the passing of my husband
Gerry.
He knew of my love for my church and you have
shown me yours.
I miss Gerry so much, but he is now in
heaven with our families.
God does bless us.
