strengthening families

,With more than twenty five years’ experience, El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission (El Buen) has helped hundreds of thousands of families and individuals in poverty realize their potential to make lasting changes in their lives. In 2012, El Buen served more than 12,000 individuals. Our medical clinic alone saw 6,508 patients, referred 299 patients to our counseling program and 445 to our one-on-one nutrition counseling program. A total of 1,387 individuals went through our adult education programs. And our food pantry left its mark with almost 5,000 visits. These significant achievements could not have happened without our partners and the 786 volunteers who donated $217,333 worth of in-kind service.

El Buen places a special emphasis on strengthening families. Together with El Buen, participants in our programs and services are working to improve their education and health, and achieve economic stability for their families and communities. It is my hope that you will join us in this important mission.

I invite you to participate in El Buen’s 2013 Campaign Year. While many Austinites have continued to thrive despite the state of our economy, there are thousands who have been affected by it. The community we serve is made up of primarily working Latino families with a strong desire to succeed in life and lead healthy, productive and secure lives with respectable family values.

El Buen’s 2013 Campaign Year features three signature events throughout the year and is a unique opportunity to take an active part in our work and mission year around. In addition to helping our community tackle hard-hitting issues, you will have opportunities to showcase your company while also meeting like-minded sponsors, donors and advocates during special events.

Central Texas is growing at a rapid rate, and we want to ensure that El Buen keeps up with this growth and is quick to respond to the growing needs of our community. It takes entire communities, loyal supporters and passionate advocates to help build a world in which all people have a chance to experience real, positive life-change. Together with you, El Buen focuses on strengthening families, which in turn, enriches greater Austin and greater Central Texas.

I hope you will join me in supporting El Buen’s mission to help families in Central Texas lead healthy, productive and secure lives. Please take a moment to look at the enclosed materials for more details.

We remain grateful for each client, partner, sponsor and volunteer, and thank you for your support in 2013.

El Buen Samaritano is an outreach ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas committed to helping Latino and other families in Central Texas lead healthy, productive and secure lives through high-quality and affordable health-care, education and economic-stability services.

W E B S ?In the late 1980s, Austin was seeing a significant change in demographics with Latinos from South, Central America and Mexico migrating to the city. The Episcopal Diocese of Texas responded by founding El Buen Samaritano in a small rock house in South Austin. El Buen Samaritano opened in June 1987 with a mission to strengthen Austin families in need.

By 1993, El Buen Samaritano offered health services through a clinic which served 350 people, almost doubling the amount from the previous year. And as the number of clients increased, El Buen Samaritano’s programs also began to grow. That year, the organization served 9,050 hot meals, distributed 1,400 food pantry bags, and gave away 900 items to children through a clothing closet.

Financial Stability Services: El Buen serves thousands of individuals with food assistance and supportive services to assist families out of their financial hardship.

W S E B S E M?Sponsorships with El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission allow for unique and exclusive access to one of the most rapidly growing demographics in Austin – working Latino families.

Benefits include access to a key demographic in Austin:

Primarily Spanish-speaking but eager English learners who bank, shop and work within Bastrop, Hays, Travis and Williamson Counties and are active participants in the greater community

More than 12,000 motivated Latino individuals take advantage of El Buen Samaritano’s programs and services annually to improve their lives

Roughly 85 percent of El Buen Samaritano’s participants reside in these zip codes: 78744, 78745, 78704, 78741 and 78617

As a sponsor for El Buen Samaritano, you will be providing the resources necessary to ensure the longevity and sustainability of the organization. In addition to the tangible benefits outlined below, your generosity will help advance working families as they contribute to Austin’s thriving community.

E S R IEl Buen Samaritano receives regular exposure in major English and Spanish media outlets. Our premiere events have been featured in the Austin American Statesman, Univision, Telemundo, KVRX, KXAN, Fox 7, ¡Ahora Sí!, West Austin News, El Mundo Newspaper, YNN, The Austin Chronicle and many others.

I G O , Sponsors of El Buen Samaritano are encouraged to see first-hand the impact of their investment by participating in volunteer opportunities throughout the year. El Buen relies on nearly 800 volunteers annually to serve throughout all areas of the organization: as teachers, food pantry assistants, youth tutors and health care workers. During special events, El Buen receives dozens of groups who volunteer together and help connect and contribute to strengthening Austin families.

Our annual supporters may choose to reserve spots for upcoming events which interest their employees or members. Volunteering together helps strengthen relationships among group members and also allows your team to make connections with the larger Austin community.

Hunger is a real concern for thousands of Austin-area families. The 2010 Census showed that almost 20 percent of Travis County residents live in poverty and struggle to secure basic needs. Hands for Hope helps extend a spirit of gratitude and service by bringing together individuals from all parts of Austin to help make a Thanksgiving celebration a reality for families who could otherwise not afford it. As a sponsor of our fall campaign, you will play an important role in the future of our families.

Throughout the campaign, you’ll have access to the roughly 12,000 individuals who come through our doors annually.
