Location

Egypt is located in North Africa, bordering on the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Libya to the west, the Gaza Strip to the east, and Sudan to the south. With an area of 1,001,450 square kilometers (386,659 square miles) and a coastline of 2,450 kilometers (1,522 miles), Egypt is slightly more than 3 times the size of New Mexico.

Climate

Throughout Egypt, days are usually warm or hot, and nights are cool. Egypt has only two seasons: a mild winter from November to April and a hot summer from May to October.

Transportation

The railway system is about 8,600 km long and is operated by the Egyptian National Railways.

The total length of highways and roads are around 38,000 km.

There are 3,500 km of water ways.

Language

The official language of Egypt is the literary Arabic. Egyptian Arabic is the commonly spoken language, and is sometimes written in Arabic script or Latin script. English, French, and German are also widely spoken.

The national Egyptian team has won the Africa Cup of Nations a record six times.Egypt’s most successful Olympic Games was in London in 1948. They won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.Egypt and Israel are considered the leading military powers of the Middle East.
