mathscoresandmeasurable21st
centuryskillsaswellasplanprofessionaldevelopmentopportunitiesforthe2013-2014school
years.Thisanalysiswilladdressschoolboardconcernsatthenextmeeting.
Results,Goals,andRecommendations
TISASdataindicatesthetechnologytierusedtoclassifyteachingstrategies/environments.Tierthreeteacherspromotetechnology
useonanindividualbasisandincollaborativelearningactivities.Tiertwoteachersfocusonteacherfacilitationoflargegrouptechnologyemployment.Tieroneteachersfocusontechnologyfortheirindividualuse.Inordertoproviderelevantinformation,I
havebrokenoutthedatabysitelevel,school,andsubjectarea.Thesebreakoutgroupsindicateaconnectionbetweentechnology
tiersandISATscores.Thebreakoutgroupsalsovalidatetheschoolboardconcernsof21st
centuryskillsasmostschoolsfallunder
thetieronecategory.
Improvedprofessionaldevelopmentopportunitiesandincreasedinstructionalplanningtimeareessentialelementsinimprovingthe
ratiooftierthreeteachingwithinPVSD.Myintentistomovealltieroneclassroomsuptotiertwoandalltiertwoclassroomsupto
tierthreebyMayof2014.Inordertomoveforward,thesestrategicprogramsmustbeimplementedbydistrictadministratorsand
embracedbytechnologyintegrationspecialists:

Researchsupportsthisconnection.AccordingtoMikeSchmoker(EducationalLeadership,January2009),Standardizedtestitems
canoperateasproxies-imperfectbutusefulindicatorsoflegitimatelearning.Indeed,whenhighertestscoresaretheresultofsound
curriculumandeffectiveteaching,weshouldapplaudthesegains.Therearemanyschoolsthatusedatatodriveacurriculumrichin
21st
centuryskillsandthatachievebothhightestscoresanddeeplearning.Also,theNationalCouncilonMeasurementin
Educationusesstandardizedassessmentsasoneoffourwaystomeasure21stcenturyskills.
