SUMMER PROGRAMS 2017

The Edison Township Board of Education is pleased to offer summer programs for the youth of Edison Township and the surrounding communities. We are offering programs for youths in grades 1 through 12. These programs are designed for students who enjoy self-directed learning and exploration. The Summer Programs Administrative Staff reserves the right to limit the enrollment of each class/program/ camp on a first received, first enrolled basis. Edison residents will receive priority. soon as possible is recommended to assure a place in the class/camp you want and to protect against cancellation due to insufficient enrollment. No transportation is provided. Lunch and beverage are the responsibility of the parent.

LATE PICK-UPS Please remember all children need to picked up on time! Two (2) late pick-ups may result in your child being dismissed from the program without a refund. Parents are responsible for picking up their children on time, even if arrangements are made through carpooling.

VIDEOTAPING Edison School Network (ESN-118) plans to visit our Enrichment Program and Sports Camps to videotape our activities. A program will be produced and shown on Channel 118 during July and August. If you have an objection to your child being videotaped, please write a note to the Summer Programs office and give it to your child’s Enrichment/Activities teacher or sports coach.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Please be aware that summer construction projects may be taking place on school grounds, which could result in noise and smells. We make every effort to minimize student exposure. In addition, buildings are not air-conditioned, so please make sure that students are appropriately dressed.

CONFIRMATION POLICY

If you register online you will receive confirmation immediately that your registration was successful. If you register by mail, you WILL receive confirmation via e-mail from the Summer Programs Office by the third week of June. We will contact you by phone ONLY if an Enrichment class is full or cancelled. We will work with you to reschedule another class. If a sports camp is cancelled due to lack of participation, we will attempt to give you 5 days notice of the cancellation.

Your child will receive his or her Enrichment class schedule (with room numbers) via e-mail. Your child’s class schedule with also be available at John P. Stevens High School on Monday, June 26th, the first day of classes.

REFUND POLICY All tuition fees include a non-refundable $30.00 registration fee. Since classes/camps are approved based on a sufficient number of paid registrations, fees will not be returned for any reason after the class/camp has started unless a doctor’s note is submitted. Refunds requested within 10 days before the first class/camp meets are subject to a deduction of the $30.00 registration fee.

The Summer Programs Administrative staff reserves the right to cancel any class/camp in which registration is insufficient. A full refund will be issued, or you may transfer to another class/camp that is still available.

All refund requests must be in writing and received by the Summer Programs office no later than Friday, July 28th, 2017. All refunds will be processed after August 15th, 2017, and sent by mail from the Business Office of the Board of Education.

CHECK CLEARING POLICY

In the event that a personal check used for payment for a class/camp is returned from your bank, a returned check fee of $35.00 will be charged. ONLY CASH OR MONEY ORDER WILL BE ACCEPTED AS PAYMENT FOR A CHECK THAT HAS NOT CLEARED THE BANK. Please note that all checks will be held throughout the registration period. All checks will be deposited by mid-June.

RECEIPTS

If you require a receipt (besides your online confirmation), you must put your request in writing and send it to the Edison Public Schools - ATTN: Summer Programs, 312 Pierson Avenue, Edison, NJ 08837. All requests must be received before August 31, 2017 so that we may verify your child’s attendance. All receipts will be issued by September 30, 2017.

INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR POLICY For the safety and enjoyment of all summer program participants, any inappropriate behavior by Activities/Enrichment/Sports Camp students may result in dismissal from the program. No refunds will be issued if your child is dismissed for inappropriate behavior.

2017 SUMMER ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

The Summer Activities Program offers two sessions each day (8:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:00-2:00 p.m.), with lunch from 11:30-12:00 for children staying for the afternoon session. Morning care is also available from 7:30-8:30 a.m. The Activities Program is for children who completed kindergarten or first grade in the 2016-2017 school year. Children may attend as many sessions of the program as they can fit into their busy summer. They will be given the opportunity to create various crafts (all different over the four weeks) and play a variety of games (sports, math, etc.). Reading and writing activities will also be integrated into the program. The Activities Program is an opportunity for students to interact with children from other schools, and have a good time while doing it. Certified teachers will be conducting/overseeing all facets of the program at all times. The Summer Activities Program will be held at John P. Stevens High School.

The Enrichment Program offers academic refresher classes, such as math improvement, creative writing and reading enjoyment, as well as enrichment classes, such as drama, dance, journalism, music, exploring science and technology. ALL ENRICHMENT CLASSES ARE BEING HELD AT John P. Stevens High School FROM JUNE 26 TO JULY 21, 2017. Students may select one-hour or two-hour classes or any combination (please check schedule that is listed after course descriptions). No transportation is provided. ENRICHMENT COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

MORNING CARE (7:30-8:30 a.m.) Fee: $100 The Enrichment Program staff will provide morning care for students who need to be dropped off at the program by 7:30 a.m. Students will meet in the Lobby and may bring a breakfast snack (a minimum of 12 students is needed to offer this service). This service will be provided only for students who are scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. class.

ART ENRICHMENT

ARTS AND CRAFTS (grades 3-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 Students will get an opportunity to create arts and crafts with paper products such as egg crates, paper plates, towel rolls, craft sticks, and cereal/shoe boxes. You will be amazed at the variety of projects you can create by recycling products. You can create bird feeders, puppets, banks, games, holiday decorations, picture frames, castles and multicultural creations.

CARTOONING (grades 3-8) 1 Hour Fee: 80 This class is for students who are interested in learning how to create cartoons. Participants will explore existing cartoons, as well as create their own original ones.

ART ENRICHMENT (continued)

JEWELRY DESIGN (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This class is designed for students who are interested in creating fashionable jewelry. Students will explore the art of jewelry making with a variety of materials.

TEXTILE ART (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Students will explore the use of a variety of textiles such as felt, yarn, string, burlap and more in an artistic fashion. Students will learn simple weaving, hand sewing, applique and fabric design techniques in this fun and relaxing class.

CERAMICS/POTTERY* 2 hours Fee: $145 This class enables the student with little or no exposure to clay, to experience all the forming techniques involved in the ceramics process. It provides a brief history of ceramics in world culture, and a hands-on working studio atmosphere where the students can create various forms in glazed ceramics. All materials are lead-free and safe for use at home. *Enrollment is strictly limited to 27 students due to space and equipment restrictions.

DRAWING/PAINTING (grades 3-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 This 2-hour drawing and painting class is for all artistic ability levels. We will focus on a range of art mediums and techniques to further develop and enhance creative skills. We will create a variety of drawings and paintings during our sessions together. Our art experience will end with an art show for all students and parents to enjoy. All artwork will be returned at the end of the 4 week session. FASHION DESIGN (grades 3-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 This class is designed for students with a passion for fashion! Students will explore the art of fashion design by using hands-on techniques not only how to design their own clothing and accessories, but they will also learn the art of coordinating outfits in order to complete their ideal “look”.

CULTURAL ENRICHMENT AEROBICS & DANCE (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This course is designed to familiarize students with music and dances of other cultures. Dance steps from traditional tap to ballet and jazz will be taught. Participants must wear sneakers. ENERGIZE! (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Get healthy with all areas of fitness, from nutrition to health, exercise and sports. Play traditional recess style games and take part in team-building exercises. Let's get active! YOGA (grades 4-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Are school, lessons, and testing stressing you out? Start your day the right way, with yoga! Yoga encourages self-esteem, relaxation, and mind/body awareness with an activity that's noncompetitive, stress free and stress relief all in one. (Materials needed for this class: your own yoga mat and comfortable clothing)

LANGUAGE ARTS ENRICHMENT

CREATIVE WRITING (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This course is designed to give students the opportunity to express themselves using the written word. By incorporating elements of the short story, vivid language, and correct grammar, students will use their imaginations to complete various assignments ranging from Haiku to short stories. Finished assignments will be shared with the class. BRAIN BUSTER (grades 4-7) 1 hour Fee: $80 Students will be engaged in a variety of brain teasing exercises enabling them to stretch their thinking beyond the everyday curriculum. Activities will be grade appropriately challenging and will be meant for students who can "think outside the box"

JOURNALISM (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Students will examine the newspaper to learn about its different components. With the knowledge they gain about news articles, feature stories, editorials and other newspaper parts, the students will work as part of a "news team" to create a newspaper of their own. JOURNEY THROUGH THE GENRES (Grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 The learner will become familiar with various genres of writing including Narrative writing, Expository Writing, Persuasive Writing, and Descriptive Writing. The learner will use the writing process to explore all of these genres in creative ways. Students will read and analyze different types of writing. The students will then be taught how to use the writing process to publish writing in all of these genres. Students will present their writing to the class in creative ways and learn how to tackle different genres in the classroom.

READERS CLUB (grades 3-6) 1 hour Fee: $80 A class where students will LOVE reading! Each course would offer girls or boys the opportunity to join a book group and read the same book. Students will spend time reading a novel together and discussing it. They will also engage in weekly book talks, literature circle discussions, book celebrations and write like the author days. Research shows that choice and comfort really help kids appreciate a love of reading - let the reading journey begin!

WORD PLAY (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80

Students will participate in a variety of fun vocabulary building games such as Scrabble, Scrabble Jr., Outburst, Crossword Puzzles and Boggle to help increase their language arts skills. Students will then apply this knowledge across subject areas to enhance their interdisciplinary vocabulary. Students will also design/create their own games to challenge each other throughout the summer!! Enjoyed by many year after year!

MATH ENRICHMENT

MATH IMPROVEMENT (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 The main focus of this class is to improve math skills, as well as challenge the students with upcoming mathematical concepts. In order to meet the needs of all students, instruction will be one-on-one, in addition to allowing opportunities for group problem solving. Due to the popularity of this class, classes will be based on grade levels (3-4, 5-6 and 6-8).

GEOMETRY THROUGH ORIGAMI (grades 4-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This class offers a creative and enjoyable way to explore the exciting world of geometry. Through simple origami folding techniques and construction, students will examine mathematical concepts such as two- and three-dimensional shapes, patterns, puzzles, angles, perimeter, area, symmetry and tessellations. They will also unlock the mystery behind topics such as Pascal’s Triangle. No previous origami experience is necessary.

STEM EXPLORATIONS! (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Students will build upon their math, technology, and science skills through interactive activities to push their learning and application of critical thinking strategies! Due to the popularity of this class, classes will be based on grade levels (3-4, 5-6 and 6-8).

MUSIC ENRICHMENT

Beginner Band (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 In this class, students will learn the basics of how to play band (woodwinds and brass) instruments (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium). They will learn basic music reading notation. This is ideal for those students that want to take band, but who missed out on it in elementary school or middle school. It's also a great refresher for a student that may have taken time off in band. Students are required to have a working instrument for the start of classes. They also need Accent on Achievement, Book 1.

BAND (grades 4-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This course is not for beginner students. It is for students in grades 4-8 who have had at least one year of

BEGINNING GUITAR (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This class is designed for those who have little or no experience playing guitar. In this course students will learn the basics of plucking and strumming, both with fingers and a guitar pick. Simple melodies and chords will be taught in a variety of styles. Students will also learn how to tune the instrument. While the primary focus is on acoustic guitar, time will be devoted to electric guitar and related instruments. Students must have their own acoustic guitar in order to participate in this class. (No electric guitars, please.)

CHORUS (grades 3-6) 1 hour Fee: $80 This course is open to students in grades 3-6. The class will stress singing fundamentals, development of the voice, and enhancing individual ability. Previous singing experience is not necessary.

GUITAR 2 (grades 4-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This class is designed for students who already took the BEGINNING GUITAR class, or have completed at least one year of private instruction. In this course students will review the basics of playing with a guitar pick. Finger picking and classical guitar technique will also be introduced. Students will learn more advanced melodies and chords in a variety of styles. While the primary focus is on acoustic guitar, time will be devoted to electric guitar and related instruments also. Students must have their own acoustic guitar in order to participate in this class. (No electric guitars, please – unless requested by instructor!) INTRODUCTION TO PIANO (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 This course is for students who have no prior experience playing piano. Students will receive individual lessons as well as group instruction, as they learn the fundamentals of reading music and proper performance technique. *Enrollment is strictly limited to 20 students due to space and equipment restrictions. BEGINNER ORCHESTRA: No experience. (grades 4-8) 1 hour Fee: $80

In this class, students will learn the basics of how to play pizzicato and arco on orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass). They will learn basic music reading notation. This is ideal for those students that want to take orchestra, but who missed out on it in elementary school or middle school. It is best for students who want to catch up with their peers and join in the orchestra. It's also a great refresher for a student that may have taken time off in orchestra. Students are required to have a working, properly sized instrument for the start of classes. They also need Essential Elements 2000, Book 1.

In this class, we will continue learning to perform orchestral string instruments as an ensemble. This class is ideal for students who have taken music in elementary school. We will perform a concert at the end of the program for our friends and family.

COMPOSER’S WORKSHOP (grades 4-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 This course offers an introduction to music writing for both singers and instrumentalists. Subjects will include lyric writing, improvisation and arrangement. Students will learn to compose in various styles, including classical, jazz, pop and world music. Students should be able to read music and have at least two years of experience playing an instrument or singing in chorus. Piano ability is helpful, but not required. INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED ORCHESTRA (grades 6-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 In this class, experienced students will continue learning to perform orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass) as an ensemble. This class is ideal for students who have taken orchestra for more than 1 year. Students may also use class time to prepare for Intermediate Region / All-State Orchestra auditions under the supervision of an expert in the field. Students will perform a concert at the end of the program for our friends and family.

SCIENCE ENRICHMENT

FORENSIC EXPLORATIONS (grades 4-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 The learner will become familiar with the various methods utilized in forensic science to solve crimes through math, science, and technology. Students will learn about the history of forensic science, how to classify fingerprints, apply techniques like chromatography, blood spatter analysis, and dental impressions, reconstruct a crime scene, and solve a murder mystery. Due to the popularity of this class, classes will be based on grade levels (4-5, 6, and 7-8). GENIUS HOUR (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Genius hour is a class that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time. It is an idea modeled after the search-engine giant Google! Students will actively research the topic before they start creating a project that showcases their learning. Deadlines are limited and creativity is encouraged. Along with the various methods of presenting what they learned, students will also improve skills in the areas of internet research, discovery, analysis and creativity. Additional Component: Board games have been proven to help with self-regulation, the basis of problem-solving and

creative thinking. Board gaming will be implemented to improve decision-making, logic, consequences and strategic thinking in conjunction with the philosophy behind Genius Hour.. EXPLORING AIR & SPACE (grades 4-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 This class will explore space and air travel. Activities will include constructing space vehicles, launching them and making adjustments to monitor successful flights. Class size limited!

EXPERIMENTING with SCIENCE (grades 4-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 Do you like figuring out how things work or why things happen? Have you ever wanted to grow your own garden, crystals, or bacteria? If you said yes to any of these, this class is for you! We will explore the world of science using the scientific method to guide us through a multitude of hands on experiments. (Materials needed for this class: 2 glass jars, 3 toilet paper tubes, a newspaper, and a creative mind)

SPEAKING SKILLS (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Speaking in public is a skill that everyone should master! Through various activities, students will learn skills and techniques to help make them better public speakers. They will witness how body language, facial expressions, tone of voice, volume of speech and eye contact can add to or detract from the content of their speeches. The students create, then deliver, speeches on a variety of topics.

ELEMENTARY STUDENT LEADERSHIP (grades 3-5) 1 hour Fee: $80 What does it mean to be a leader? How can I improve my leadership skills? This class is designed to increase student confidence through the introduction of essential leadership skills. The course will teach students how to apply important leadership skills such as team building, problem-solving, critical thinking and more that they can bring back to the classroom in September. THE GREAT DEBATE! (grades 6-8) 2 hours Fee:$145 This course, designed for grades 6-8, will allow students to discover the many facets of debate. Students will learn about and practice impromptu debate as well as interpretation speaking, which helps students to focus on verbal and nonverbal delivery in playful and fun ways. The students will also learn the basics of debate by deciding on current, relevant issues as a group and by researching and preparing cases as a team. MONSTERS in MYTHOLOGY and LEGENDS PROGRAM (grades 3-8) 2 Hours Fee: $145 Have you ever heard of the Tengu of Japan? How about the Celtic Dullahan? Each week we will explore the bizarre and unexplained myths and legends of continents across the world. Students will read age-appropriate stories, play culturally themed games, learn about monster holidays and create projects based on each legend.

TECHNOLOGY/CONSUMER SCIENCE ENRICHMENT

COMPUTER KEYBOARDING (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Students will learn the basic fundamentals of the computer keyboard. Control of the keyboard using touch-typing is developed. Students will learn proper typing position while using various programs to build skill and accuracy.

FUN WITH COOKING (grades 4-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 Students will enjoy making and eating tempting treats and learning the basics of cooking skills and good nutrition. Basic math skills will be used. *Enrollment is strictly limited to 27 students due to space and equipment restrictions.

POWERFUL PRESENTATIONS (grades 4-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 Powerful Presentations will teach students how to use readily available websites and technological skills to create effective presentations. Participants will explore and embed relevant links, videos and technological features to their presentations to keep their audience engaged.

DIGITAL NEWSPAPER CLUB (grades 4-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 Students will have the opportunity to learn what it takes to create a digital newspaper from in front of the camera as well as behind it. In this course, students will use iPads to create weekly reports about our enrichment program. This may include interviews with students and teachers, newsflashes, sports updates, and many more features. When finished filming, students will edit using sound and other special effects and then share their product with the rest of the summer enrichment participants via Youtube.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER CODING (grades 3-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 This course introduces core computer science and programming concepts. The course is designed for use with grades 3-8 and will help students grasp the basic fundamentals of computer coding by introducing programming language using a Blockly format. Students will gain a deeper appreciation for technology, strengthen problem solving skills and create projects using several different coding apps to help them understand computer science and computational thinking. ** Please note: Based on enrollment, two sessions of this popular class may be offered concurrently - one for students in grades 3-5; another for students in grades 6-8

THEATRE ENRICHMENT

PLAY PRODUCTION & CREATIVE DRAMATICS (grades 3-8) 1 hour Fee: $80 Students will explore an actor's creative process from improvisation to approaching a script and creating a role. The young actor is provided with some basic skills aimed at building a believable, confident stage presence. Students will create costumes and design scenery as part of the play production experience.

THE WORLD OF READING IS A STAGE! (grades 3-8) 2 hours Fee: $145 Students will develop and enhance reading fluency by participating in Reader’s Theatre. Reluctant readers will build confidence in this fun, risk-taking environment. During these read-aloud activities, students will read dialogue with expression and “get into character” to make stories come alive! Every week groups of students will dress up in character, design a set and present their performance in front of a peer audience.

CREATIVE DRAMATICS II (grades 6-8) 2 Hours Fee: $145 Students in the Middle School will continue to hone their acting skills and presence by performing a 2 hour play at the end of the Enrichment program. All participants will have a role in the production!

2017 SUMMER SPORTS CAMPS PROGRAMS

The Edison Township Board of Education will once again run the Summer Sports Program for 2017. Each head coach is a highly qualified coach, as well as a professional educator employed by the Edison School District. In their camps, the coaches provide a mix of skills instruction and competitive fun for all ages and ability levels while maintaining a low camper-to-instructor ratio. A certified trainer or nurse is available at each camp. Camps are held rain or shine, and during excessive heat periods. Parents must provide transportation as well as lunch and drink. (Campers stay for lunch only if participating in a full-day camp from 9AM-3PM.)

Please pay special attention to the dates, fees and responsibilities of each camp. Camps are held at both J.P. Stevens High School and Edison High School. CAMPERS MUST BE ENTERING GRADE 3 AS OF SEPTEMBER

SPORTS CAMP DESCRIPTIONS

BASKETBALL The staff provides a fun and educational basketball experience. All aspects of the game are covered on a daily basis. Individualized and small group instruction is utilized to teach the fundamental skills of ball handling, shooting and passing. Defensive and offensive drills and strategies are also implemented. Competitive skill activities and full court games are conducted in every session.

CHEERLEADING All campers will learn the basics of cheerleading, such as how to grab a crowd’s attention with high energy levels, fun cheers and sidelines, captivating routines, and exciting stunts. We will practice the proper form for performing cheers and stunts, as well as safety techniques. The staff incorporates fun into a learning atmosphere while teaching competitive skills. Conditioning and improvement methods are also emphasized. All campers will participate in a performance on the last day of camp.

CAMPERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THEIR OWN SNEAKERS, SHORTS, AND T-SHIRTS.

DANCE All campers will be able to experience different types of dance throughout the week. Techniques such as ballet, hip hop, jazz, and salsa will be covered. Campers will learn basic terminology and technique and then will apply this to combinations. These combinations will be showcased at the end of the week. All campers must have their

hair tied up and away from their face for dance camp.

CAMPERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THEIR OWN ACTIVE WEAR, SNEAKERS, AND WATER.

LACROSSE All campers will learn the individual fundamental skills necessary for offense, defense, face-off techniques and goalie play. Team skills will be instructed through controlled game situations. The staff incorporates fun into a learning atmosphere.

ALL CAMPERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THEIR OWN LACROSSE STICK, HELMET, GLOVES AND SNEAKERS. IF YOU NEED EQUIPMENT, PLEASE CHECK WITH THE COACH.

SOCCER

The staff is committed to teaching campers of all levels in a relaxed, fun environment. Specialized skills of dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting, defending and team play will be covered. Offensive and defensive strategies are employed in game situations. Conditioning and improvement methods are also emphasized.

SOFTBALL

This camp is designed to teach and emphasize the proper mechanics and fundamental skills of throwing, catching, fielding and hitting. The staff is committed to the development of individual skills, as well as incorporating team play.

CAMPERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING

THEIR OWN GLOVE, BAT, SNEAKERS, OR SPIKES.

STRENGTH, SPEED AND AGILITY

This camp’s objective is to provide positive encouragement and instruction for children. Campers will understand the importance of how to successfully prepare for athletic competition by developing their body’s strength, speed and agility. Proper technique and safety of various exercises that focus on and improve the body’s core strength will be stressed. Campers will actively participate in the weight room and in various body weight circuits.

TENNIS

This camp is designed for the novice and intermediate player. Focus will be on the instructional skills of service, volley, lob and net play. The rules, scoring and strategies of singles and doubles are also covered. Methods on improvement of skills will be emphasized. All campers are grouped by age and ability level.

CAMPERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THEIR OWN RACKETS, SNEAKERS, AND NEW CAN OF TENNIS BALLS.

TRACK

The proper techniques of running, jumping and throwing will be introduced in an instructional sequence throughout the week. Information will be supplied on equipment, nutrition and weight training to support a complete conditioning program.

VOLLEYBALL

Campers will be instructed on the basics of forearm pass, overhead pass (set) attacking, blocking, serve and serve receive. Players will be taught the most up to date techniques for beginner and advanced volleyball. Advanced players will receive further instruction in: running an offense, read blocking, floor defense, back row attacking, and jump serving. All campers will be trained on injury prevention techniques and strength training.

CAMPERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THEIR OWN SNEAKERS, ATHLETIC CLOTHING, KNEEPADS, WATER BOTTLE AND SMALL TOWEL

YOGA Campers will learn the basics of yoga postures, breathing and meditation in a fun and relaxing environment. Each day will introduce new postures to create strength and flexibility and techniques to help relax and de-stress throughout the year. By the end of the week, campers will have created their own mini-lessons to share. All campers should wear comfortable, stretchy clothing for yoga camp.

ZUMBA

All campers will learn the basics of Zumba® Fitness, a feel-happy workout that combines a motivating fusion of high-energy Latin and international music with unique moves and dynamic combinations that allow participants to dance away their worries. A fun and educational dance experience will be provided on a daily basis. A mixture of body-sculpting movements with easy-to-follow dance steps, the routines utilize the principles of aerobic interval and resistance training. All campers will participate in a performance on the last day of camp.

CAMPERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUPPLYING THEIR OWN SNEAKERS,

SHORTS, T-SHIRTS, AND WATER BOTTLE.

Camp Invention is coming to John P. Stevens High School, July 24 – 28, 2017. Camp Invention is open to students in grades 1-6 (September 2017). Camp hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All camp classes are taught by Edison Public School’s faculty.
