Descriptive Annex

1 NAME AND TYPE OF INSTRUMENT

This instrument is an NCR 7876-2000 scanner/scale, Class III, mains operated, self-indicating, weight-only, Non-Automatic Weighing Instrument (Figure 1).

2 DESCRIPTION

2.1 Construction

2.1.1 Mechanical

Main features:

- Designed for flush-mounting in checkout surface, having frame extensions to support the 7876-2000 in the checkout counter.

- Steel framework supporting load cell, barcode scanner and electronics.

- NCR 7825 remote display unit.

- NCR 7876 bar code scanner.

- Interface for POS connection.

- Remote power supply module.

2.1.3 Load cell

The load cell is a Flintec Type SP12-30, or NCR Part № 497-0429309 or 497-0438405.

2.1.4 Power supply

The remote power supply unit is an AcBel model API-8545 NCR P/N 497-0411207 and provides regulated dc voltages of +5 V, +12 V and -12 V to the weighing modules and to the bar code scanner.

2.1.4 Analogue circuitry

The analogue signal from the load cell is amplified, filtered and digitised.

2.1.5 Digital circuitry

Main features:

- Computational values from the EEPROM and weight data and from the scale board are processed by a micro-computer (5802965SA50) for continuous weight display and upon request, transmission of weight to the POS/PC terminal.

- EEPROM contains configuration data including span, zero and linearity settings.

2.1.6 Display

The weight display is provided by either a dual or single head NCR 7825 remote display. The display consists of an LCD panel with seven segments, each 9.5 mm high. The two digits furthest to the right are used to show the unit of weight (Figure 2).

2.2 Operation

Main features:

- Upon power up, diagnostic routines are run to check the correct functioning of the instrument.

- Before display or transmission to the POS interface, the weight data is checked for stability. Stability is considered to have been achieved if the previous two readings are within ±0.2 e of the present reading. The instrument is then only considered to be unstable if the difference between the present reading and the previous reading becomes greater than 1 e.

- Digital hysteresis is applied to reduce display flicker, and adds or subtracts 0.1 e depending on the direction of weighing.

- Automatic zero tracking occurs at gross zero indicated weight, and is only applied over the balance range of 4% of capacity.

3 TECHNICAL DATA

3.1 Technical characteristics

3.1.1 Power supply 110-120 V or 220-240 V ac 50/60 Hz.

4 PERIPHERAL DEVICES AND INTERFACES

4.1 Peripherals

There are no peripherals approved under this certificate.

4.2 Interfaces

- IBM 485 - USB - RS 232 - ICL MDL

4.2.1 Using the above mentioned interfaces the non-automatic weighing instrument may be connected to any compatible point of sale device (POS) if the device has a Test Certificate issued by a Notified Body appointed to certify instruments according to paragraph 1 of annex II of the EC Directive 2009/23/EC on Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments.

5 APPROVAL CONDITIONS

This certificate is issued subject to the following conditions:

5.1 Legends and Inscriptions

5.1.1 The instrument and remote display bears the following legends:

Max Min e = Class III

5.1.2 The instrument shall bear the following legends:

CE marking Verification mark Green M Serial number Manufacturers mark or name Certificate number Special temperature limits (10 ºC to 40 ºC)

The markings and inscriptions shall fulfil the requirements of Paragraph 1 of Annex IV of the Directive 2009/23/EC.

6 LOCATION OF SEALS

6.1 A lead wire or paper seal is used to secure a cover protecting the calibration switch, which is housed in a compartment underneath the load receptor (Figure 3).

6.2 A 30 mm x 30 mm adhesive plate is provided for an inspector's mark.

Components that may not be dismantled or adjusted by the user will be secured by either a wire and lead seal or tamper evident label and securing mark. The securing mark may be either:

- a mark of the manufacturer and/or manufacturer’s representative, or - an official mark of a verification officer.

7 LOCATION OF CE MARKING

The CE marking is located on the data plate. The data plate is placed on the right front support flange (Figure 4).

8 ALTERNATIVES

8.1 Having an extended weighing receptor attachment. An additional vertical weighing receptor constructed from stainless steel and glass is attached to the sub platter. The vertical weighing receptor is part of the “live” weight receptor and enables oversized goods to be weighed (Figure 5).

8.2 Having the 7876-8000 scanner scale, the 7876-8000 has the same component parts as the 7876-2000. In addition, the sub-platter and framework have been lowered to accommodate a Sensormatic Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) security tag deactivation antenna that may be fitted underneath the load receptor (Figure 6).

8.3 Having the 7876-5000 scanner scale, the 7876-5000 has the same component parts as the 7876-2000 except it has a shorter base container section being 39.4 cm long (Figure 7).

8.4 An additional vertical weighing receptor constructed from plastic and glass is attached to the sub platter. The vertical weighing receptor is part of the “live” weight receptor and enables oversized goods to be weighed (Figure 8).

8.5 Having a different rear plastic tower (Figure 9) with a window to allow a retailer to add a logo. The framework and the mounting of the main circuit board are slightly modified, and there is a new section added to the rear to house optics.

8.6 Having the data plate placed on the H-bar (scale load receiving element) and visible through the clear plastic contamination plate (Figure 10).

8.7 An alternative gross, primary, live weight indication may also be provided on the NCR 7401, NCR 7402, NCR 7342, NCR 7343 or NCR 7346 touch screen display with weight information conforming to the minimal numeric height requirements of 9.5 mm and the "kg" unit indication. Also the Max, Min and e = information must be shown near the weight indication.

8.8 An alternative gross, primary, live weight indication may also be provided on the NCR 7456 or NCR 7457 using a Customer’s Information Display (CID) which is a CRT or Flat Screen Monitor with weight information conforming to the minimal numeric height requirements of 9.5 mm and the "kg" unit indication. Also the Max, Min and e = information must be shown near the weight indication.
