to support people in their recovery

and to assist them in the pursuit of

Dawn never thought that she had a

problem with drugs or depression, but

those around her knew different. It took

Dawn losing her home and everything that

she cared about to realize that she needed

help. When Dawn first came to Easter Seals

Michigan she was fighting a long history

of substance use and depression. She was

homeless and struggling with instability.

After establishing a treatment plan with

the Easter Seals Michigan staff, she was on

the road to living a sober and independent

life. Over the years there have been many

hurdles, but due to her resiliency and

the ESM staff, Dawn is sober, has her

own apartment and has devoted her life

to helping others while she continues

to receive treatment from Easter Seals

Michigan.

We helPed curtis Find his Place. let us helP you Find yours. Curtis came to Easter Seals Michigan,

and, together, we helped him develop

a treatment plan which included case

management, medication and weekly

therapy sessions. Without transportation

available, Curtis walked to each

appointment because he saw the value in

the treatment that he was receiving. He

formed quick bonds with the staff. “I’d live

here if they let me,” says Curtis. “They are

like family.”

Since starting services with Easter Seals

Michigan, Curtis has been able to get

an apartment, a new job, and endless

opportunities serving as an Adult

Ambassador. “Easter Seals doesn’t just fix

you. They give you the tools you need to

fix yourself,” adds Curtis. He now is able

to return to the streets and preach about

the services he received at Easter Seals

Michigan.



role modelAs a mother, Angela wants the best for

her children. Prior to coming to Easter

Seals Michigan, she was struggling with

intense emotional issues. She knew that she

needed to take care of herself in order to be

there for her kids.

When Angela first came to ESM, she

didn’t feel she had a voice, and coped

with this through substance abuse and

other impulsive decisions. She had

unhealthy relationships and struggled to

communicate her feelings.

Angela’s journey to recovery began

with the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

(DBT) program. This helped Angela make

healthier choices and focus on being in the

moment. She learned how to describe and

participate in the things she was doing, and

the things around her.

Angela has made remarkable progress.

She is attending school and on a list for

housing. Angela still struggles with the

unknown, but knows that she will be okay.
