A Message from Your President;

Greetings from your President;

I got back from my summer in Colorado this year in time for a quick trip to Oshkosh which never fails to amaze me with the size and scope of the event. I had conversations with a group from South Africa and an-other group from Brazil. Just a small example of peo-ple there from around the world. How fortunate we are to be so close! One thing that caught my attention this year were the number of “adsb” devices that let you view free weather and in some cases traffic on “efis” screens and handheld devises such as the iPad. This technology will soon be common place in many cockpits. This months program is on the iPad in the cockpit which is rapidly becoming the display device of choice for navigation. In fact I’m planning on designing my RV9a’s instrument panel around an iPad so I’m really looking forward to the presentation. Have fun, and as always, keep on flying, planning, building, learning, upgrading, tinkering, polishing, maintaining, and dreaming aviation and share the experience with others.

Last Month’s Meeting Program Thank you to Jim Reichard who introduced his new SONEX aircraft at the Hinckley Airport. No additional info available as this editor was unable to attend. Several pictures of this event as pro-vided by Wes Lundsburg are later in this newslet-ter. —————————————————————- Notice: The September issue of this Newsletter will be the last issue delivered by this editor. Any-one interested in continuing this Newsletter should contact the EAA Chapter 241 Board of Directors. —————————————————————-

This month’s meeting program is at The DeKalb Airport (DKB)- where the Apple

iPod in the Cockpit will be presented by Rose Ellen May. Following AirVenture 2012, we thought a program on using the Apple iPad in the cockpit would be helpful for our chapter. Most of us have heard of ForeFlight Mobile, but if not, please take a look at this short video that highlights one of the most popular aviation apps for the iPad. http://bcove.me/m8ms5xoz

This should be a very interesting presentation of the latest and greatest tool for the cockpit. For more details on this presentation and/or future program presentations contact Rose Ellen May @ 815-375-1772. ——————————————————————————————————————————

Editorial Note;

The EAA Chapter 241 Business meetings have been separated from the Program meetings for several years now. The objective of the separation was to speed up the meeting process and get down to the Program portion of the meeting. While this approach has addressed the objective, it has also managed to alienate the general membership of their right to be involved with the actual business of the organization. Not only has it excluded the general membership but the Business meeting is held on Sunday makes it in-convenient for the membership. The editor thinks it’s time to re-visit this practice and have the membership

get more involved with the functioning of the organiza-tion. In addition, it was originally talked about but never in-stituted that this organization would be in compliance with standard organizational rules, or Roberts Rules of Order. This in many ways has not allowed the general membership to have “their say” on an issue or make their concerns known.

Treasurer's Report for July:

Our chapter holds steady at 43 dues paying mem-bers. We can never have enough help for our pancake breakfasts. Please consider working the Hinckley fundraiser. Our chapter is only as strong as the participation by it's members. Smooth skies one and all.

Your Support for EAA/AOPA Medical Petition Is Crucial It's easy to comment in support of driver's license exemption for recreational flying

It only takes a couple of minutes to post a comment on the EAA/

AOPA petition to allow pilots to fly recreationally using a

driver's license in lieu of a third-class medical, but your support

is the only thing that may sway the FAA. The government has

made it surprisingly easy to log in and post your comments.

Click here to comment on Docket FAA-2012-0350, located

within Regulations.gov. (Review the EAA/AOPA Guide to the

Medical Petition, or consult the frequently asked questions to

learn more about the exemption request.). Submitted by Rose Ellen
