Community Triggering Workshop for ODF

Community triggering workshops for creating awareness about Open Defecation Free has

attracted many slum dwellers in Maa Kalyani Jhumpri Basti (Nehru palli). More than 100 female 30 male

along with 40 children gathered at the workshop. At the end they realised the hazards caused by open

defecation. They decided to make their slum ODF by 1st May. To ensure it a nigrani committee formed

consisting 5 male 20 women and 15 children. They decided to start Nigrani of Open Defecation sites from

4.30 A.M.

SWEEKRUTI SAMABESH -2018 For promotion of transgender equality and justice a “SWEEKRUTI SAMABESH” was organized by

Rourkela Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Rourkela Smat City Limited and District Administration (SSEPD Department) at City Auditorium, Udit Nagar, Rourkela on 15th April 2018.Members of Transgender community from Rourkela-Smart City participated in the event and shared their life story as well as issues they are facing in their daily life.They were sensitized about various Government schemes available for them and were motivated to come forward to get skill development training for a better livelihood.

Telugupada Basti became the 1st ODF Slum in Rourkela Smart City Rourkela Smart City Limited_(RSCL) has gone one step ahead in achieving Telugupada_Basti as the

first slum in the city as open defecation free (ODF). For that the community itself took leadership and

Nigrani (Vigilante) Committee has a major role in achieving this success with in a short period of time.

Nigrani Committee Members and local residents of Telugupada_Basti celebrated this achievement at

their Basti in the presence of Smt. Rashmita Panda, Commissioner RMC.

(ODF). Nigrani Committee Members and local residents of Gadhatola Basti celebrated this

achievement at their Basti in the presence of (RSCL) & RMC officials. RSCL is mandated to make

more such slums as ODF in the Area Based Development (ABD) region through (CLTS) Approach.

Residents of Mantola Basti under ward number 4 of Rourkela SmartCityare very happy as their area

became open defecation free (ODF). Nigrani Committee Members and local residents of Mantola

Basti celebrated this achievement at their Basti with full of enthusiasm. Officials of Rourkela Smart

City Limited (RSCL) & RMC officials took part in the celebration and encouraged them. RSCL is

mandated to make more such slums as ODF in the Area Based Development (ABD) region

through Citizen Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Approach.
