APPLYING TO VIETNAM EXECUTIVE MBA (VEMBA)

Since 2001, we have been offering the only AACSB-accredited Executive MBA in Vietnam. VEMBA has literally moved our graduates to the next level. Many of our alumni steadily move up to C-level positions or assume bigger responsibilities in successful companies at all levels – large and small, domestic and international. More graduates now hold senior management positions in top Asian cities, from Hong Kong to Singapore, from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur. The number of new start-ups created or enabled by our VEMBA entrepreneurs has continued to rise.

Our graduate business education goal is to promote the concept of wealth creation through leadership training and teamwork.

With a flexible schedule that allows full-time executives to complete one of the most rigorous MBA programs in the country, the 48-credit-rich program is carefully designed to provide you with relevant knowledge and critical decision-making tools for changing times. Another VEMBA feature is the capstone consultancy practicum. Students are required to create a consulting company and practice scientific management under the coaching of a team of faculty and experienced entrepreneurs.

Your VEMBA professors are seasoned instructors, all educated from top doctoral programs in their respective academic disciplines and active in research. As such, they bring the latest knowledge

to the classroom. Also, thanks to our reputation as the leading Executive MBA program in Vietnam, we have been able to attract award-winning professors from UC Berkeley, Cambridge, Colorado, Denver, Columbia, Illinois, Chicago, San Francisco, UCLA and Wisconsin Madison, and other prestigious institutions to supplement our core faculty.

With this brochure, we would like you to explore our curriculum and make an informed choice.

COHORT STRUCTURE

THE PROGRAM CURRICULUM

RESIDENCE WEEKEND

CONVENIENT CLASS SCHEDULE

Executive MBA students will go through the entire program together as a cohort class. The cohort structure provides an excellent forum for networking and sharing experiences while fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Rigorous and challenging, the Shidler College of Business Executive MBA curriculum is designed to sharpen tools, refine skills, and put global challenges in perspective. You will experience professional growth, and possibly even rekindle your own entrepreneurial spirit.

The Shidler Executive MBA has a well-thought modern curriculum which carefully integrates qualitative and quantitative aspects of modern management in a results-oriented structure. We understand that leadership is not only about analytical skills, but also about managing human relationships in the workplace. The core curriculum covers accounting, finance, organizational behavior, as well as explores new technology, entrepreneurship, e-business, and global business strategy with an Asia-Pacific focus.

By presenting new theories and by challenging participants to incorporate new concepts into their everyday business experiences, the Executive MBA curriculum prepares managers and executives to meet new real-world business challenges and opportunities, and to succeed.

An intensive 3-day residential session consisting of day and evening classes are required for all newly admitted Executive MBA participants. To help participants focus on the initial course work, this intensive weekend is held at an off-campus location and is designed to enhance class cohesion and identity.

Residence Weekend is structured around a variety of critical management issues facing executives today. Through the study and analysis of these issues the business core curriculum is introduced.

After the Residence Weekend, there is approximately one class per month with about 2-3 weeks off between 2 courses. Below is a typical schedule for a 3-credit course (36 contact hours):

“Education and learning business has always been of prime importance in my life. Being the CEO of Deloitte Vietnam, the largest auditing firm in Vietnam, it has indeed been a rewarding challenge for me to balance my work, my family and the Executive MBA program with University of Hawaii. As I view this, I have improved on my skills and knowledge to work in a very global environment. The knowledge of professors combined with the experiences of my classmates, who happen to be not only Vietnamese but also many expatriates, has helped me manage my business more effectively & efficiently. The pursuit of an MBA requires lots of time and patience. If you have these, then don’t miss the chance to get a world class, well acclaimed, AACSB accredited MBA program right at your door step with the University of Hawaii at Manoa.”

Maily NguyenHead of Client Management, Global Payment and Cash Management, HSBC

“VNPT has a staff of over 90,000 people with a business of over a few billion dollars. The University of Hawaii MBA has given me a very different perspective on business and management. The program is very Asia-focused and continuously ranked among the top EMBA programs in the Asia-Pacific region. My classmates, professors and alumni were a great help to me and to my company with their valuable suggestions and ideas. The most important thing I learned in this program is that it was very practical. Classroom simulations, assignents and group studies gave me a very deep insight into other businesses and cultures.”

Pham Long TranChairman, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT)

Class of 2004

“My 2-year experience with the University of Hawaii’s Executive MBA program was undoubtedly one of the best periods in my life. It gave me chances to meet with wonderful people, both local and global, gain up-to-date and world class international best practices and know-how in various aspects of management techniques / philosophies and explore new things which I had never had the opportunity to do prior to joining this program. I could apply concepts and experiences acquired from the program into my daily job and life, almost instantly. The best part of all is the friendships that I developed during the 2-year journey which has extended well beyond completion of the program. It has more than paid off!”

Huynh Buu QuangHead of Commercial Banking, HSBC Indonesia

Class of 2011

“I am confident to take more critical responsibilities at my corporation as I have been trained in this EMBA program to think strategically and to have a sound understanding of the value chain of large organizations such as FPT Corp.”

Chu Thi Thanh HaVice President & COO, FPT Corporation

Class of 2005

“The key success factors in pursuing an Executive MBA program are strong commitment, hard work, and relentless sacrifice of other interests. In return, this program has given me the required knowledge to succeed, strong entrepreneurship, much widened professional network, and wonderful relationships with faculty members and other alumni. Financially, the program has been a good investment for my career. Above all, it has amazingly built a different perspective in life – just like what Albert Einstein used to say “Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value”. The Executive MBA at University of Hawaii was definitely a chapter worth highlighting.”

Nguyen Anh TuanGlobal Corporates, Transaction Banking, Standard Chartered Bank, Singapore

Class of 2011

“Like many of my classmates, we entered the program with a desire to gain knowledge, skills, and ultimately the degree. I entered the program with expectations based on more than 10 years of exploring MBA programs in the US and around the world. The bottom-line: my experience exceeded my expectations.

First, we not only were taught by professors from an excellent University... we had the best professors from the University of Hawaii. Second, the skills we learned will enable us to compete and win in the global economy. Third, the relationships/connections forged with my classmates have definitely been a highlight”
