T Lhe ounge:

Thank you DCBC for coming together to make this work!

This becomes unwelcoming for new people. To help with this, we asked those who were regulars among us to volunteer to spend one Sunday in four in what we call The Lounge - one of the rooms (Simpson Room) the children's ministry have graciously given up to help us address this issue.

God is being gracious to us, and regularly adding new people to our midst. If we try and fit everyone into the auditorium, we find it really difficult to find seats for everyone once the service starts.

Today we kick start the Lounge for 2020.A very big thank you to everyone who is making the sacrifice so that we can create space for new people. If you would like to sign up to go to the lounge, please email Tina ([email protected]).

Lost PropertyPlease check the items on the table in the foyer this Sunday; any lost item not claimed will be donated to a charitable organisation. Thanks.

Oh, may we be a community of growing disciples!

I would love to see everyone in our church in a group like this; I love the group I am in. This year we are committed to resource Life Groups with suggestions and ideas to keep your group “alive” and sharp in its focus. This Sunday, for those of you who are not in a group, we want to give you an opportunity to sign up for one. We will then come back to you within two weeks with a possible group for you. We are finalising a starter kit for new groups that we will make available to you as soon as your group is formed.

Over the coming weeks, we will highlight other practices/groups, e.g. Growth Groups and The Practice of Lent to resource you in your growth as a disciple of Jesus. Through the year, we will also keep communicating with you suggestions and/or practices for growth.

—God bless you, Bruce

As I shared last Sunday my longing this year is to be a person who is more and more dwelling in Jesus (John 15), being led by his Spirit - growing in loving God with every part of my being; and loving others - seeing Jesus reflected in every part of my life.

One practice that we have introduced to help us in growing as these people are Life Groups. Life Groups are small groups of 4-7 people where we help each other be honest about our walk with Jesus; encouraging, challenging, confessing, stirring each other on; helping each other keep Jesus at the centre of our lives through all the struggles and challenges of life.

Dear friends,

I know this is the desire of so many of you.

I also know from experience, to see this worked out in my life I need to put into place, practices to feed the life of Jesus' spirit within me. I'm starting to sense that one of the focus this year in our church will be helping each other to do this so that we become increasingly a passionate community of Jesus disciples. We will talk a lot more about this as the year goes on.

We meet every Thursday night for games, prayer, food and being challenged to grow as a follower of Jesus Christ: upstairs at the Alhambra Rugby Club; on the edge of the North Ground on Great King Street (the one-way heading north).

Weekend Camp: 13th to 15th of March at Tirohanga CampAn opportunity to connect with other YAs, engage in some crazy activities and anchor your faith in Jesus Christ at the start of the year. Our speakers are Geoff and Prue Murdoch.

YA Vans: If you need transport to Church on Sunday morning you can catch a ride in one of the YA Vans:9:40am at Corner of Cumberland and St David's Sts; right in front of the big University sign, across from Good Earth Cafe.

Our community is made up of young workers and tertiary students (University/T-Coll/Polytech). If you are new, it would be great to meet; you are welcome to come along to any of the events below. The rumble of thunder speaks of your voice O God.

The clear blue sky in day and distant horizon display your enormity. How wonderful to be a part of your big picture.

We praise you our Creator God. How good it is to enjoy and delight in your creation.

You made the autumn leaves crunchy underfoot and the air smell sweet after rain. The sound of the rain soothes us.

Christianity and the Environment

Your beautiful aurora australis shines across depths of the starry night sky.

They are silhouetted by the lightning that zings past.

Your steep mountains are reflected in deep fjords. The waterfall crashes onto the mossy rocks.

Praise our Creator God for the beauty of your creation. How good it is to enjoy and delight in it.

How beautiful is the peacock! How sweet the tui's song and the sound of children sleeping.

We love the feel of sand between our toes and sunshine on skin, the softness of our dogs' fur, the cuteness of a snake.

You gave compost, cut wood and grass a wonderful smell, not just beautiful roses, Christmas trees and ripe fruit.

The rainbow reminds us of your promises.

In the first session of this Growth Course, we considered God's ongoing relationship with his creation and we celebrated the goodness of all creation by writing this psalm which we'd like to share with you all.

The basalt columns of the Organ Pipes declare your majesty and the wind whistles over them.

The rainbow reminds us of your promises.

They are silhouetted by the lightning that zings past.

How beautiful is the peacock! How sweet the tui's song and the sound of children sleeping.

The rumble of thunder speaks of your voice O God.

Prayer Room

We want to see prayer to the Lord increasingly at the heartbeat of our church. We have set aside the Prayer Room (the room where prayer occurs after church) to be available for you, or groups of folks to come in at any time during the times mentioned above to pray. The Prayer Team have set up the room to create an environment which will help us to pray. We would love this room to be used right throughout the week.

If you have any questions about its use, please talk to Alicia Elder — Prayer Team leader, 027.329.1786 or [email protected]

(not available 1pm-1:30pm Tuesday)

Prayer is at the heart of our life as believers of Jesus and as a community of his followers. We must spend time listening to the Lord, giving him space to speak to us, surrendering ourselves to his agenda, bringing ours and the needs of others to him, giving thanks and praise to him.
