Dual Enrollment Orientation Guide & Academic Policy Information Academic Honesty The University encourages a mature attitude toward learning and sound academic morale, and discourages illegitimate aids in examinations, laboratory work and homework assignments. Cheating, plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty including the acquisition, without permission, of tests and other academic material belonging to a member of the University community, and the sale and/or distribution of such material are in violation of University policy and subject to disciplinary action. “Cheating” includes, but is not limited to: (1) use of any unauthorized assistance in taking quizzes, tests, or examinations; (2) dependence upon the aid of sources beyond those authorized by the instructor in writing papers, preparing reports, solving problems, or carrying out other assignments; or (3) the acquisition, without permission, of tests or other academic material belonging to a member of the University faculty or staff. “Plagiarism” includes, but is not limited to, the use by paraphrase or direct quotation, of the published or unpublished work of another person without full and clear acknowledgment. It also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling of term papers or other academic materials. A student who has been found to be in violation of academic misconduct may receive a failing grade in the course and any of the disciplinary sanctions outlined in the Board of Trustees policy of student responsibilities, including suspension or dismissal from the University. InformationAcademic Honesty

Student Identification Numbers & CardsYour FSU student identification number is included on your Dual Enrollment

Acceptance letter. Student ID cards are required when using the Ferris State Library and computer labs. Student ID cards can be obtained at the Timme Center for Student Services, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The address and contact information for the Student Services Office is as follows:

Computing IDsMyFSU is your portal to campus information, your FSU email account, and your

electronic file. For information on accessing MyFSU account, click on the “MyFSU/Ferris Computing ID and Password Instructions” link on the Dual Enrollment Student Resources page at www.ferris.edu/dualenrollment. MyFSU log-in information may also be obtained from the FSU Technology Assistance Center website at www.ferris.edu/techsupport.

ParkingAll automobiles must be registered with the Office of Public Safety. Parking permits

may be obtained from Public Safety Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Identify yourself as a Dual Enrollment student to acquire a temporary parking permit. You will pay a fee for each semester you have a temporary parking permit.

TextbooksStudents are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks and supplies for their

courses. These items can be acquired at the FSU Lundberg Bookstore located in the University Center.

TuitionThe payment of tuition for Dual Enrollment is the responsibility of the high school,

the student, and the student’s parents/guardians. Check with your high school counselor or principal to determine your tuition costs for Dual Enrollment.

Admission to the Dual Enrollment ProgramYour admission to the Dual Enrollment program is valid on a semester-by-semester

basis. For each enrollment period, you will need to complete the Course Payment and Authorization form which includes your course(s) selection, alternate course(s) choice, financial payment information, and signature approval from your parent/guardian and your high school counselor/principal. You are not required to submit an application each subsequent semester you are enrolled. However, if your dual enrollment courses are not taken in subsequent semesters, you must submit a new online Pre-College Application. Students will not be admitted or registered for dual enrollment courses after the semester begins.

Academic Advising, Course Selection & Approval

You should consult with your high school counselor/principal and parent/guardian when selecting courses to ensure that your academic needs and career interests are being met, and that your courses fulfill high school graduation requirements. Registering for a ClassUpon admission, the Transfer Services Center will register you for classes.

GradesGrade Reports

A report of your final course grades will be mailed to your high school counselor approximately two weeks after the end of the semester. Students may view their grades in MyFSU under the “My Academics Tab.” Click on the “Student Grades” box, select the term, and click the “Go” button.

Mid-Term GradesMid-term grades may be issued by the instructor halfway through the semester.

Students can view their mid-term and final grades in MyFSU under the “Academics & Services” tab.

Grading SystemThe following grading system and grade point values are used for all courses at

Ferris State University:A (4.0), A- (3.7), B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B- (2.7), C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C- (1.7), D+ (1.3), D (1.0), D- (0.7), F (0.0)Grades of CR (Credit), NC (No Credit), AUD (Audit), I (Incomplete), IP (In

Progress), and W (Withdrawals) are not considered in computing grade point averages.) A grade of WF (Withdrawal Failing) is computed as a grade point value of 0.0.

Withdrawing From a CourseStudents may not drop or withdraw from a course unless they receive approval

from their high school counselor/principal. Students should not simply stop attending a class-they must be officially dropped from the course by completing the official drop form. The deadlines for dropping a course with a “W” grade vary and courses dropped after that date will result in an “F” or “WF, which will affect the student’s grade point average. The high school counselor or principal will contact the Transfer Services Center to authorize a student’s drop or withdrawal from a course.

TranscriptsDual enrollment course grades will be placed on your official Ferris State University

transcript. If you plan to attend another college or university, you must request to have your transcripts sent to the other post-secondary institution. To request an official copy of your transcript, visit the FSU homepage at www.ferris.edu and select “Transcript Request” from the “Quick Links” menu. You may also visit http://www.ferris.edu/htmls/admision/registrar/transcript_request.html for more information. Transcripts will not be sent unless you follow this process.

Academic ServicesAcademic Support & Writing Centers

The Academic Support Center provides free tutoring and study skills material to students.

Computer LabsThere are several computer labs

located on the Ferris State campus for student use. A student ID card is required at some labs to check out manuals or supplies.
