Drug Deaths in England and Wales There were 2,747 drug poisoning deaths in

England in 2010, of which 1,784 were as a result of drug misuse.

60 young people under the age of 20 years died as a result of drug poisoning, 35 of which were attributed to drug misuse.

Scotland

Drug Deaths in Scotland There were 485 drug-related deaths

registered in Scotland in 2010 This was the third-highest number ever

recorded, 30 (7 per cent) more than in 2007 and 193 (66 per cent) more than in 2000.

The number of drug-related deaths has risen in six of the past ten years.

Most drug-related deaths were of people who took more than one drug.

65 people aged under 25 died.

More than one drug may be reported per death. These are mentions of each drug, and should not be added to give total deaths. They include all drugs found present in the body including those which the pathologist did not consider to have had any direct contribution to the death.
