In the Beginning

Roselyn Nneoma Anochiwa is the one and only daughter of Chika Nwigwe, a nurse, and MacDonald Anochiwa Sr., a teacher. Her grandparents are Obediah and Magdalene Nwigwe (mother’s side) and Levi and Rosaline Anochiwa (father’s side). Roselyn has two brothers: MacDonald Jr. (older by two years) and Princewill (younger by three years). Her childhood was completely sheltered and conservative. Her parents disciplined her a lot, but it only made her the person she is now.

Since she was always inside growing up, Roselyn and her brothers created many games in the comfort of their rooms and game room. There were many traveling games. They acted as though they were going places by driving their couches as cars

and riding their chairs as motorcycles. They also used to lie down and bang their heads against the cold sides of their pillows. Now remember, they were just kids, so please no judging.

Like any child, Roselyn made many mistakes. One instructive lesson she learned was not to always get mad or upset when something does not go her way, what she wanted probably was not what was needed.

In Your Neighborhood

Roselyn lived in the quietest part of Laurel Oaks so nothing important ever happened on her street. The other lids came out very seldom, but being the quiet kid she was, Roselyn rarely came out. She had to learn the “news of the neighborhood” through her little brother once he was old enough to leave the

house alone. She never fraternized with people outside of her inner circle.

Later in life, she finally grew more comfortable around people and by the fourth grade, Roselyn met her first best friend, Brittney Lanaux. In the seventh grade, Loryn Wills came into the picture.

By the time ninth grade came around, Roselyn became closer to a girl she had known for a while named Jasmine Bell who became a new member of her best friends list. Kourtney Shepherd, Robert Robinett, and Brittany Brayboy soon followed in her sophomore and junior years of high school. Throughout all the years, Roselyn is grateful of everyday that they are in her life.

School Days

In 1998, the year Roselyn turned four, she started pre-kindergarten at San Diego Pre School. It was a school meant only for preschoolers, and she only had to go for half a day. This school is where smart, little Roselyn learned how to read. She remembers vividly being outside in their fields of really green grass blowing bubbles and reading stories.

Her next school was Clark Elementary. She went her from kindergarten to third grade. In the second grade, Roselyn was asked to join the Clark Chorale for she was graced with a beautiful voice at a young age. Roselyn sets that time frame for that school because that summer after the third grade, the school split and the upper grades (third through fifth) became Clark Intermediate. In this school, she found herself growing stronger and really liking the subject of math. Ironically, though, Roselyn could not stand her math teacher. Her favorite teacher was Mrs. Susan Hall, her reading and comprehension teacher. In her last year of being at Clark, Roselyn joined the cheerleading squad.

Next in line came her middle school years. Roselyn went to Claughton Middle School for all three years. The first two years, sixth and seventh grade, was filled with singing. She was in the choir until she realized she loved to sing but not in the ways of a choir. Plus, she knew singing was only something she was going to do for fun, so getting serious with it was no point. She ended her middle life by dabbling with cheerleading with her friends Loryn and Brittney in the eighth grade.

Last and not least was Roselyn’s high school career. She started Dekaney High School fall of 2008. In October of this year, she applied for the district’s own academy, Carl Sr Wunsche, and got in for her sophomore through senior years. Being in this school still allowed her to participate in extra-curricular activities at Dekaney, her “home school”, so in these years she found her love of being an athletic trainer.

Career Exploration

After being an athletic trainer for three years, Roselyn realized that becoming a professional athletic trainer was what she wanted to do in life. The responsibilities of an athletic trainer are to develop athletic injury prevention and treatment programs using their knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy and pathology. Of course, by the name of the profession you can tell that she will be tending to athletes. Roselyn had planned to work with a professional football team or for a major college.

College Exploration

Upon staring her life after high school, Roselyn considered the choices Texas State University- San Marcos, University of Texas- San Antonio, and University of Houston. All of these schools are in her hometown because as much as Roselyn really wanted to leave her home, she knew she would not feel right going really far. Roselyn looked farther into her favorite college of the three, Texas State, and got a few need to know information about it.

History: Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1899, Southwest Texas State Normal School opened its doors in 1903. Over the years, the Legislature broadened the institution's scope and changed its name, in succession, to Normal College, Teachers College, College, University, and in 2003 to Texas State University-San Marcos. Each name reflects the university's growth from a small teacher preparation institution to a major, multipurpose university. Through its nine academic colleges, Texas State offers nearly 200 undergraduate and post-graduate degrees to serve the needs of future generations of Texans.

Location: San Marcos, Texas

Demographics: 32,572 students

Student to Teacher Ratio: 24:1

After graduation, Roselyn made enough to make it on her own in a little, comfortable apartment in a good neighborhood. From here, she continued to get her Masters in athletic training. After this graduation, Roselyn was able to find a good job working as the professional athletic trainer for the

Moving Day The day came for Roselyn to finally settle down and continue on with her career. She decided to stay in Houston, Texas because she was already so familiar with the place and also, because it was closer to her job. Her choice on living was that she would be alone until time came for her to start her family.

Triumphing Times

All of Roselyn’s triumphs came from a combination of her family of her own and prospering far in her work. Roselyn went farther up in the athletic training world and was asked to join staff for the Houston Texans. A little after she started working, she was graced by a man who was greatly injured. In her time of strengthening him back to his full potential, Roselyn found love in one of the football player for the team she worked for. Together, they made each other happy and after getting married they were graced with three beautiful children, a daughter and two sons.

Words of Wisdom

Throughout her life, Roselyn would love to say that she learned a lot of things to tell a lot of people. One thing she does want to make sure she shares is that in order to obtain something worth having, you have to work for it. It’s true when they say: “Anything worth having is worth fighting for.”

Funny Bones

Roselyn’s husband was the main one who kept the family smiling in all those years of being together. Whenever something sad came up, he was the one to lighten up the mood. Every once in a while, her children will take after their father and most of the jokes they played was toward Roselyn just to see how much they can bother her. April Fool’s Day was always the worst part of her for her because her family was so silly, April Fool’s didn’t just last that one day. All in all, their household was funny so a day couldn’t pass by without them laughing together.

Thank You

When asked what she grateful for is, Roselyn smiles and replies: “I am grateful for all of my accomplishments because I know how hard I worked for them. I try to teach my kids and others that every blessing that comes their way, they should be grateful for because not everything that comes around will go the way they want in.”

Reflection

In the words on nowadays Roselyn:Looking from where I am now, I see that I have to work a lot harder to get form high school to college. I also know that once I do get to college, I cannot play around as much as I did in my high school years. Having a career is serious so getting there is no joke. The life I just described in this project is something I really have to work hard for so that is exactly what I plan to do to get there.
