Menvier Security has a strong heritage producing high performance intruder alarm systems. For many years it has been the ‘go to’ product range for large installations with sophisticated building services integration. Its advanced zone control and extended output options enable detailed customisation of systems to meet customers’ exacting requirements.

The new Menvier range from Cooper Security builds on this history to offer the performance and flexibility customers expect. All the panels have onboard Ethernet providing a web browser interface and local networking capability. End stations have been designed to house a minimum of one 17Ah battery capacity (two in the Menvier300) and give a full range of customisable and programmable output options.

All the panels offer an enhanced range of zone options including shunt key and shuntable zones. The panels also support the configuration of zone resistance and supervision settings by individual zone to enable faster system takeover.

Menvier panels support both wired and radio expansion. The radio system used is the secure 868MHz narrowband radio solution shared with other Cooper Security products. This is carefully controlled using high performance electronics to give the greatest range and reliability available on the market.

The new Menvier range is PD6662:2010 and BS8243 compliant, giving you confidence that the systems will meet the very latest standards.

The new Menvier rangefrom Cooper Security

More powerful, more flexible, more customisable

Technology All panels have 10 wired zones on the end-station and expand in 10 zone blocks making it easier to identify expanders and zone locations.

The Menvier40 bus can accommodate 20 bus devices and the Menvier100 and Menvier300 can accommodate 45 devices. This gives significantly increased flexibility and system control.

Devices are addressed by the push of a button. This ensures two devices will never be given the same address and saves hours of onsite and diagnostic time.

Enables the fast and easy location of bus-mounted devices, saving significant time on service and maintenance visits.

Allows the transfer of the engineer session around the system’s keypads to speed up installation.

All Menvier panels are compatible with a wide range of Cooper Security intruder peripherals see pages 8-10 for details.

All the new Menvier panels have a built in web server and Ethernet connection. This enables local configuration through a web browser with all the convenience of the configuration software and profile held on the panel. It also enables local network connection of panels for onsite monitoring and building services integration.

In the event of one of the technologies being masked, the KX15DTAM will go into a mask fault condition. The mask relay will open. This can be connected to the 24hr zone of a control panelThe KX15DTAM incorporates selectable alarm resistor values of 6K8, 5K6, 4K7,1K and tamper values of 5K6, 4K7, 2K2 and 1K catering for most control panels on the market. The very latest technological development from PyronixIf there is no activation after a 5 hour period the KX15DTAM will actually self test both the PIR and microwave The same self test can be initiated at any time by using a compatible control panel. When the self test is carried out remotely the PIR relay will open momentarily, storing the initiated test in the control panel logThis technology patented by Pyronix allows the detector to respond to the environmental changes by automatically adjusting its levels of immunity to background disturbances.High sensitivity for use in areas where fast detection is requiredAdjustable sensitivity settings for installations in a more hostile environmentWhen the product is used in a hot environment this technology digitally adjusts the detector’s sensitivity allowing it to regain its range even when the external temperature equals the external body temperature of 32oC‘AND’ mode operates as a standard dual technology detector. ‘OR’ mode can switch to microwave detection only to overcome cloaking attempts and the traditional vulnerability of PIR detection in environments where the ambient temperature is equal to body temperature. The solid state relay can be selected as Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) simply by moving the header link suppliedMicrowave - orange, PIR - green, alarm - blueThe KX15DTAM is available in 3 different frequencies

Metalised microwave housingSupplied with both wall and ceiling mount brackets which provides access for up to two 8 core cables. (Tamper kit optional)

Immediate alert in the event of a sabotage attempt

Completely eliminates the need for separate resistors, therefore reducing installation timeSee reverse for more detailed informationUnique to Pyronix, this ensures that the detector is always operating effectivelyPanel will log all activated detectors saving engineer test time

Greater stability, reduces risk of false alarm activationsEnsures suitability for most environments

Guarantees optimum performance at all times

Overcomes cloaking attempts and therefore is ideal in high security environments

Ideal for switching electrical devices

The technology activated can be easily identifiedEliminates the risk of ‘cross talk’ between detectors located within the same room / environmentEliminates back lobe radiationAllows ease of installation whilst enhancing tamper protection

Applications

Ideal in high security environments where there may be a significant risk of masking. An area immediately in front of the KX15DTAM is monitored continuously and separately from its normal mode. Any intrusion into this quiet area activates the anti masking process.

This further enhances the detector's immunity to infrared noise in the environment.BWT comprises of 2 key components: 1. The new 3D optics system enables perfect focusing of the infrared signal onto the pyro-electric sensor. This allows BWT to clearly identify the positive and negative signal edges.2. Powerful software embedded into a microprocessor is used to process the received information from the pyro-electric sensor. The result of this combination is lower infrared signal noise amplification and therefore better immunity. 3. A blue LED on the KX digital detectors signifies Blue Wave Technology.

• Latch operationWhen selected, the Spyder will display a flashing LED ifa valid alarm event has been detected since the previousUNSET to SET transition. The LED will continue todisplay the alarm event, even when the alarm relayoutput has closed after the shock has terminated.

• Discrete ModeWhen selected, the Spyder LED will remain off evenunder conditions of a valid alarm event.

• Sustain ModeWhen selected, the Spyder will only signal a valid alarm

event when it has detected a sustained series ofvibrations. This improves tolerance to normal shockevents that are not valid alarms, for example birdimpacts.

• Sensitivity RangesA high or low sensitivity range may be selected toenable the Spyder to be used in a wide range ofinstallations each having their own peculiar vibrationtransmission characteristics. Within each range, the on-board pot enables continuously variable selection ofsensitivity within that range. The pot provides a simplevisual indication to the installation engineer of thesensitivity selected.

• Multi-unit Synchronisation ModeUsing the multi-unit synchronisation feature of theSpyder, an array of detectors connected together withtheir alarm outputs in series have the facility to indicatethe first unit that has detected the alarm event. In thisinstance the first unit triggered will show a flashingLED, with all other subsequently triggered unitsshowing an alarm event with a steady LED.

3. PC Based Access Control System

A Plan PC based access control system is proposed using iClass smartcard technology,

and comprising access control to a total of 7 No. doors, Double Leaf Main Front

Entrance Doors, Single Leaf Front Interlock Door, Single Leaf Rear Interlock Door,

Single Leaf Secure Safe Room Door, Single Leaf Door From Main Office to Rear Archives

Room, Double Leaf (1 ½ ) Comms Room Door, and Single Leaf Rear Fire Exit Door.

We propose to install close proximity readers using iClass smartcard technology. For

a greater level of security we are proposing combined pin-code and proximity for the

external readers and reader to the Secure Safe Room. All other readers are to be

proximity only.

All doors are to be free exit via a stainless steel egress button, and are also to have

green emergency break glass units adjacent to them for release in the unlikely event

of the system failing.

For added security, fail secure locks are to be fitted to the external front and rear

doors, and fail safe electro-magnetic locks are proposed for all internal doors.

The front and rear doors between the Front Area and the Main Office are to be set up

for as ‘interlock’ doors so that only one of the two doors can be opened at any one

time, and will not operate until the other is securely closed. Release buttons are to be

located at the Greet Desk and Cashier positions to enable the Main Front Entrance

Doors tio be released from these positions.

The system is to be managed and administered via SQL Enterprise Central Control

Plan’s own powerful management software normally loaded onto the client’s server

and administered via a nominated PC workstation on their network.

The system is to be supplied with 50 iClass smartcards that can also be used on MFDs,

cashless vending and photocopiers if required.

Introduction

PurposeThe Purpose of this document is to introduce the reader to the PLAN access control system and it’s hardware and software architecture. Specifically the document is intended to provide information for a client IT department to assess the impact of deploying the PLAN system within the corporate IT infrastructure.

PLAN Access ControlThe PLAN range of access control equipment is a UK manufactured security management solution aimed at the corporate needs of all commercial, educational and government organisations. Flexibility in the system design means that the product can be cost effectively deployed in small applications, with just a few readers and staff, as well as meeting the large-scale needs of an entire organisation across multiple sites with thousands of readers and tens of thousands of staff.

With capabilities that extend beyond 'access control' the system includes a host of value added features (such as Photo-ID, Attendance reporting, Auto Roll-call, Guard-tour and Asset Tracking). The system can provide seamless integration with other security sub-systems such as ‘Logical’ access control, CCTV, Intruder Alarms, Paging and Intercom systems. Additionally, the PLAN software and hardware can be linked to non-security systems such as Fire Alarm, BMS, Flexi-Time, Cashless Catering and HR staff management applications.

Due to its integrity and resilience, the system has been implemented in a wide range of applications in almost all markets. In today's demanding and competitive security systems marketplace, the PLAN system takes it's place as a high end product suited to the 'large scale' enterprise-wide needs of leading companies across all sectors.

System architecture

The Key elements to the PLAN system are…

Tier 1: Operational Interface (front end software) Tier 2: Field equipment (PLANx00’s and alarm panels)Tier 3: Card reading technology and door hardware.

The PLAN system has a three tiered architecture comprising an operational/user interface (e.g. software), intelligent controller network (e.g. xPLAN400’s, 200’s etc) and local door hardware (e.g. card readers, request to exit buttons and locks etc). The controllers themselves can be connected to the front end software directly (using RS422, or, more commonly, by direct IP Ethernet. Figure 1.0 below shows a system utilising the client network for both software and controllers communications. Figure 2.0 shows a system that utilises a dedicated bus (usually installed by the security sub-contractor) for control panel comms.

Impact assessmentThe degree of impact on the IT dept is manageable based on how much integration is demanded. Support for all hardware and software applications is usually provided by the security sub-contractor. In most cases, platform support and connectivity remains the responsibility of the end user.

In figure 1.0 above it can be seen that the system will depend on the client network infrastructure in two ways… 1) The PLAN400 and PLAN200 local controllers utilise the client LAN for data communications. 2) The operator administration PCs utilise the LAN for Administration/operation of the system.

Field Controller Hardware (PLAN controllers)

ConfigurationFor direct IP communications, each control unit requires the presentation of a network point, static IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway address. Communication is based on a single static port (10001) which can be altered if necessary.

Security/VulnerabilityThe controllers are dedicated micro-processor devices operating entirely proprietary firmware. There is no third party operating system between our device application and the hardware and all firmware code is written in-house.

The lack of a high level operating system at the door controllers means that they can not be used as a platform for viruses, or other threats to these appliances, or to the rest of the organisation.

Bandwidth utilisationThe PLAN system is designed with efficient utilisation of client bandwidth in mind. It is difficult to predict precisely the usage of the network, however, it is important to differentiate between the two key areas in which PLAN systems might make use of a client provided LAN.

1) Direct IP Control Panel communications: This involves polling of and sending messages to locally intelligent field panels which make up the system. It is these panels that are responsible for the real-time decision making and processing of card events. The operation of the system at this level does not depend on the health of the interconnecting network.

2) Host PC (Server) to Client workstation PC communications: If all administration is carried out from a single PC running the PLAN applications there is no need for a connection to the LAN. However, for large sites (especially those with multiple locations) it is normal for there to be a number of administration workstations.

Direct-IP Panel CommunicationThe PLAN software application communicates with the panels approximately every 0.1 to 0.5 seconds, depending on the information being sent. If the event processor

Page 27: DRAUGHT PROPOSALS FOR THE INSTALLATION … THE INSTALLATION OF SECURITY SYSTEMS AT BANK OF INDIA, 714 ... approved Alarm Receiving Centre via a RedCARE/GSM Grade 3, dual path ... XCELW

(see Figure 3.0) is polling for messages, and there are no messages waiting in the control panels, the communications is typically less than 100 bytes every second.

If there are messages being received from the panels (for example a card event) or commands being sent to the panels (for example a new card to be added), then more information is sent, with the polling slowing to approximately half a second cycles.

Once a poll is received at the control panel, data is transmitted from the buffer as soon as possible, this can be anything from character by character to 222 Byte lumps. There are a number of variables outside of our control such as network traffic etc.

Bandwidth flexibility Although the client network is likely to be set at 100Mb/s, the PLAN controllers require nothing like this speed for efficient communications. During installation, the engineers can set the preferred speed using the panel comms optimisation menu between 1200bp/s and 57,600bp/s.

A PLAN Controller network interface set at 1200 Baud would average about 10 Bytes per Second.

Page 28: DRAUGHT PROPOSALS FOR THE INSTALLATION … THE INSTALLATION OF SECURITY SYSTEMS AT BANK OF INDIA, 714 ... approved Alarm Receiving Centre via a RedCARE/GSM Grade 3, dual path ... XCELW

Version 9.x Software

Key functionalityThe software provides the following key functionality;

Day to day administration of card-holders and user privileges (new starters, processing lost cards, increasing user rights etc).Real-time alarm annunciation and system status reporting (acknowledging alarms, responding to alerts, cctv integration).Management control and configuration of the system (liaising with security sub-contractors during expansion works, adjusting system settings).Delivery of Reports and Auditing (responding to requests for system reports and monitoring compliance with regulatory controls).

The need to deliver this functionality directly to the personnel who need it, often requires that the system is deployed across multiple departments and therefore needs to be supported, to some extent, by the clients corporate IT infrastructure .

Note: For more details on the features and capabilities of the software please refer to sales documentation and performance specification.

Software ArchitectureThe version 9.x software is a 32bit Windows application suite designed specifically for the purpose of providing an administrative front end for the PLAN field equipment.

The software is implemented in an N-Tier architecture comprising of the following elements

1. A front-end client application, which is responsible for providing an application user interface.

2. In the case of the PLAN system, the middle-tier component provides connections to various types of services (such as the event processor) and coupling these to the client, and, to each other. These specialised server services allow users to access data and control field equipment while isolating it from the actual application.

3. The Data Tier stores the application data on a back-end database server in a RDBMS such as MS-SQL, MySQL, Firebird-SQL or others.

ConnectivityThe client system interacts with the middle-tier via a standard TCP/IP protocol. The middle-tier interacts with the backend server via standard database protocols such as SQL, ADO ODBC.

This middle-tier contains most of the application logic, translating client calls into database queries and other actions, and translating data from the database into client data in return.

Page 29: DRAUGHT PROPOSALS FOR THE INSTALLATION … THE INSTALLATION OF SECURITY SYSTEMS AT BANK OF INDIA, 714 ... approved Alarm Receiving Centre via a RedCARE/GSM Grade 3, dual path ... XCELW

The placement of processing logic on the middle tier application server provides scalability and isolation in order to handle rapidly changing business needs. In addition, this allows a more open choice of database vendors.

Advantages of this architecture (compared to conventional 2-tier client server models) include:

• The internal function of each layer is completely hidden from other layers, changes to the user interface or to the application logic are largely independent from one another, allowing one part of the system to be updated without re-deploying the entire application. In two-tier architectures, each client must be updated to reflect the changes.

• Network bottlenecks are minimised because the application layer does not transmit extra data to the client, only what is needed to handle the task.

• Database connections can be 'pooled' and a single connection can be shared by several users, this can greatly reduce the cost associated with per-user database licensing.

• Specialised server services in the ‘middle tier’ (such as the event processor service) can be located on physically different servers with only minor re-configuration. This, ‘horizontal’ scalability means that the event processor service (which handles the panel communications) can be hosted on a local machine at a remote site. Not only does this manage the server load (as the system is expanded), it also means that essential panel communications and alarm notification can take place on that site even if it becomes disconnected from the main system.

• The client application is insulated from database and network operations. The client can access data easily and quickly without having to know where data is or how many servers are on the system.

• The end-user retains database independence and is not tied to vendor-specific stored procedures. Migration from one database vendor to another requires no client re-configuration at all. Moving the database server from a physical server to a Virtual Machine can be executed more or less on the fly.

Components and servicesThe decomposition of the individual functions of the software are as follows…

V9.x Event Monitor (EvtMon.EXE) distributed Admin. client softwareV9.x Server service (FirePLANSvc.exe) connects to preferred SQL serverV9.x Event Processor Service (EPSvc.exe) connects to xPLAN controller network As discussed above, some or all of the component parts can reside on a single workstation, however, the diagram below illustrates the connectivity required between the component parts of the system.

All ports listed above are the defaults for a standard installation. All ports can be altered during the installation/configuration process.

The minimum implementation of the system can be hosted on a single desk-top PC which hosts the Database, Admin Client application and the necessary server and communications services. In the diagram above, the red dotted line groups the three elements that are most often installed on a single server.

Typical Client PC specification

• Pentium IV 1 GHz or equivalent processor • 512 MB RAM • Windows 2000 Professional SP4 or XP Professional SP2 operating system • 1024 x 768 resolution • 100 MB available hard disk space

Client Software installationSince there is no dedicated database engine required at each client, or dependence on third party run-time libraries, the client software can be deployed very simply utilising a number of different packaging options.

The only aspect of the system that is likely to be utilised by all staff (the visitor registration facility) utilises a web interface and so offers the lowest possible deployment overhead.

An introduction to PLAN Access Control Systems The PLAN range of access control equipment is a UK manufactured security management solution aimed at the corporate needs of general commercial organisations, healthcare, police/government, educational and

financial institutions. Flexibility in the system design means that the product can be cost effectively deployed in small applications, with just a few readers and staff, as well as meeting the large-scale needs of an entire

organisation across multiple sites with thousands of readers and tens of thousands of staff.

With capabilities that extend beyond ‘access control’ the system features a host of value added capabilities (such as Photo-ID Badging, Visitor Management, Time and Attendance reporting, Mobile Mustering, Guard-

tour and Lone Worker Monitoring and Asset Tracking/Loss prevention). The system offers award winning seamless integration with, and between, other security sub-systems such as Logical Access, CCTV (including digital video

recording), Intruder Alarms, Paging and Intercom systems. Additionally, the PLAN software and hardware can be linked to non-security systems such as the Fire Alarm, BMS, Third Party T&A, Cashless Catering, Active

Directory and Human Resource staff management applications. In today's demanding and competitive security systems marketplace, the

PLAN product range takes it's place as a high end product suited to the 'large scale' enterprise-wide needs of leading companies across all commercial sectors.

Due to its integrity and resilience, the system has been implemented in a wide range of applications and is appropriate for any application where an

organisation has one or a number of mission critical facilities to secure.

PLAN400 PRODUCT OVERVIEW: The PLAN400 controller is designed to be a flexible 4-door access control system, capable of stand -alone or networked operation. The system can control up to 50,000 personnel (expandable), has 128 time profiles and alarm monitoring options on all 4 doors with four separate alarm output relays. Each unit features 16 extended alarm inputs for monitoring third party equipment and standard alarm input devices (such as door contacts and PIR's). These circuits are supervised with an end of line resistor to prevent tampering or bypass attempts. The real-time clock and system memory are both battery backed on the circuit board and using the built-in PSU charger option (if fitted) all systems are also backed up against mains failure. Mains supplies are filtered and suppressed to protect against noise and surges. When off-line, events are logged in the system RAM and the last 2000 transactions will be buffered until they can be up-loaded to the host system when comms is restored. A local information review option allows event log and detailed configuration data to be viewed or downloaded to a PC (via an RS232 port). Four 12vDC electronically fused switched negative lock outputs are provided… these are rated at 500mA per door. A separate supply is easily installed for higher powered strikes or different voltage requirements and voltage free contacts (1.25 A @ 30vDC) are available as a standard built-in alternative. The xPLAN400 controller is housed in a lockable steel cabinet, with provision for cable entry through the rear panel or side walls. Inside the circuit board, keypad and display are mounted on a removable inner lid. All external connections to the main board utilise demountable terminal blocks. The system is compatible with most types of card reader… technologies supported range from Mag-stripe, Wiegand Swipe and Proximity through the more sophisticated Biometric and Contactless Smart Card solutions. The controller has built-in enhanced support for the latest in multiple-reading long range RFID tagging.

Mounting

A three-part reader makes installation easier. Mounting plate attaches to U.S./EU/Asian back box, 52-60 mm screw hole spacing (vertical or horizontal), or to any flat surface. Reader body fits onto mounting plate. Cover fits over reader body,

secured with a screw. An auto-tuning circuit provides consistent read ranges on various mounting surfaces with

minimal reduction on metal surfaces.

Mounting plate attaches to U.S./EU/Asian back box, 52-60 mm screw holespacing (vertical or horizontal). Keypad

reader housing latches onto mounting plate, secured with a screw. An optional spacer can be used for surface mount installations. Mounting on metal can affect optimal read

range and we recommend the use of our spacer to maxi-mize read range.

Mounting plate attaches to mullion, door frame, U.S. single-gang J-box or any flat surface. (Reader will not cover junc-

tion box.) Reader body snaps onto mounting plate, secured with a screw. Identical mounting holes as the HID MiniProx.

Easily Interfaced The reader’s Wiegand output easily interfaces with most existing Wiegand protocol access control panels. The reader reads standard HID format data and will output data as encoded. When reading MIFARE® cards, the reader can be configured to output 26-bit, 32-bit, 34-bit, 37-bit, 40-bit, or 56-bit Wiegand formats, based on the card serial number.

Indoor/Outdoor Design Rugged, weatherized polycarbonate enclosure, designed to withstand harsh environments, provides reliable performance and resistance to vandalism. A tamper switch in reader housing facilitates the notification of a tamper alarm.
