    Phase Flow Rate Volume Time

    1 Contrast 6.0 mL/sec 60 mL 10 sec

    2 Contrast 2.0 mL/sec 6 mL 3 sec

    3 Saline 5 mL/sec 30 mL 6 sec

    We use a triphasic injection protocol where we inject rapidly for the

    first phase thats going to produce a dense left heart. We inject lessrapidly in the second phase to get a partly dense right heart. Thenwe inject saline in the third phase to clear the superior vena cava.

    Phase 1: Contrast Rapid infusion rate 6mL/sec

    Phase 2: Contrast Reduced infusion rate 2mL/sec

    Phase 3: Saline Rapid infusion rate 30mL @ 5mL/sec

    Multiphase Injection is Critical to Proper Enhancement of the Heart*

    Phase 1: Acquisition Time + 4 X 6 mL/sec

    Ex: Acquisition Time = 6 sec + 4 = 10 X 6 = 60 mL

    Phase 2: (Peak Time 2) - Acquisition Time + 4 Ex: Peak Time = 15 sec 2 sec = 13 sec

    Acquisition Time = 6 sec + 4 = 10 sec13 sec 10 sec = 3 sec @ 2 mL/sec = 6 mL

    Phase 3: Saline Rapid infusion rate 30mL @ 5mL/sec
